Plymouth was one of the first settlement in America. The pilgrims they came England dreaming to make a better life for themselves, one where they could be free and do what they wanted. They were free and things would be OK until about 100 and so years later when England decided to crack down on the colonies and inforce thing that would be unconstitutional by todays standards. The only problem was that the constitution wasn’t created yet and before it was much blood was shed by men hoping to created a new country. We are all different people with different hope and goals to accomplish that are part of our dreams and everybody is entitled to them but not everyone has an equal chance of achieving their goals. When a person’s dream is to become a doctor and help people and save lives, they have to work for it and if everything goes right, you have the skill and dedication but there is one problem.... your skin color. There is nothing wrong with your skin color and you're actually part of the majority but its unfair because of something called affirmative action. After Segregation congress passed something called affirmative action which made colleges originally have a quota of how many minority students had to be accepted that was found unconstitutional so instead allowed for minorities have an edge over the majority even if test scores or extracurriculars say otherwise. The majority aren’t the only ones who belief this is unfair "I'll our records are just about equal. But when we look for jobs this year, it's a different story. You got all of the brakes"( Rodriguez 3). This was written by a minority author who believed that this was unfair. He that this example of how affirmative action works truly is unfair. The pilgrims landing on Plymouth Rock has had a number of important impacts on America today. Whether the impacts were positive or negative, it was the pilgrims that had taken the journey to the New World and made the present what it is today. Originating from England, the English were Puritans who believed that the Church of England was in need of spiritual purification. Instead of altering the church, the English set off on a voyage to the New World for new opportunities. The pilgrims could start over and build a new society from scratch without having the chance of having corrupting influences on the Old World. Religion wasn’t the only temptation of going to the New World, there was famine and the taxes in England that made them want to depart to the New World. The New World had the opportunity to obtain rights and then they could live in the society that they had envisioned (Gray, 48).

The idea that this country offers so much opportunity that can be obtained by anyone provides people with the ability to dream their own dreams. The American Dream can be a motivational fire, but it takes a lot of hard work and dedication, one must focus on building a balanced life for themselves, participate in honest work and practice their craft to have marketable skills are just stick out from the competition. People work their whole lives making money so they can satisfy their desires. The idea of being able to purchase the items people always dreamed of is an achievement in itself. Having a great family owning a home and having beautiful things to fill it with is a common dream amongst people. Many people take pride in what they possess. People want to own nice homes, nice cars, and nice clothes. Some need to look successful in order to feel successful. These people feel successful when they can admire what their hard work has given them and when they can see they build something their kids can also benefit from.

The interaction among the English and Native Americans helped shape the development of the Virginia colony. The origins of the traditions held by the population of America started from the time that this land was first set foot on by the human species and was compounded throughout the rest of time. The immigrants and slaves expanded on the traditions of the original settlers. And, along with those they brought their own religions and cultures that also added to the traditions of this country.
Throughout American history, there have been a number of people who have exemplified and supported Adam’s idea of the American Dream (Meacham np). One of these was Benjamin Franklin with his “way to wealth.” Another was Franklin D. Roosevelt, the great symbol of hope to the American people during rough years. Calling the nation toward a more positive mindset, Roosevelt declared, “The great fact to remember is that the trend of civilization itself is forever upward, that a line drawn through the middle of the peaks and the valleys of the centuries always has an upward trend.” (Meacham np) Roosevelt was right, though people fail, it doesn’t mean their chances of succeeding are over. They can still achieve the American Dream if they stay positive about it and really work toward it.
