Recommended: Comparing two Cinderella stories
I am writing a compare contrast essay. I am comparing and contrasting four Cinderella stories. The Algonquin Cinderella, the Ashenputtel, the Yeh -Shen and the poem interview. That is only four of the nine hundred Cinderella stories.
There similarities are that the all have a Cinderella character. Also that the sisters are mean and jealous of how pretty Cinderella is and the step sisters don’t let her do anything. There is magic in all of the four Cinderella’s. In the Algonquin Cinderella there is an invisible prince. In Yeh-Shen there is a magic fish. In Ashenputtel there is a magic tree.
The differences are is that they are from a different country of origin. Yeh-shen is Chinese, Ashenputtel is German Algonquin is from North America. In
Some similarities are obviously that they are both slaves who are trying to escape their misery. The characters also have a good relationship with their fathers because they taught them how to care for themselves and what to do when they need
There are thousands of versions of cinderella told all around the world in different cultures and languages. They are all similar and different in their own way and all of the similarities and differences can reveal something about the culture they originate from. Katie Woodencloak and The Irish Cinderlad have both have their own fairy godmother but they are not the same. Both fairy godmothers reveal something about the economy of the country.
Cinderella is known all around the world. Cultures are never exactly the same but yet they have some things in common. The main thing they have in common is fairy tales. The story of Cinderella is told all around the world. It is told in many different languages and in many different versions. Some cultures have other names for their Princess. In some versions the Cinderella of the story is not a girl it is a boy. Cultures have some of the same fairytales but their versions are a little different from the ones known today. One of the most common fairy tales known around the world is Cinderella. Cinderella is usually a pretty girl with evil stepsisters and a stepmother that treat her poorly.
Clearly, there are many similarities between the three Acts of the two stories and these examples are just a few. First, that in the first Act of both stories they discussed marriage. Second, that in the second Act in both stories the main couples declare their love for each other. Finally, the third Act in each play is similar because they both have the women crying because their men have left them. Obviously, there are many similarities between The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and Midsummer Nights Dream.
Bettelheim, Bruno. ""Cinderella" A Story of Sibling Rivalry and Oedipial Conflicts." Bettelheim, Bruno. The Uses of Enchantment. 1976. 279-282.
You can see from the tales themselves though, that the amount of similarities is what brings them together, and represents the way that the tale of Cinderella itself has traveled, and evolved, orally through generations, all over the world.
While reading and watching films of different cultural Fairy Tales, you notice like an every Cinderella Tale there is a girl who is tired of living a life where they just want to be better. Also from all the different versions of Cinderella stories, all of them are surrounded by jealousy, hate, and negative vibes. However, there are cultural difference that is expressed in each of the different versions of these Fairy Tales. In my paper I am going to express these differences, the two versions that I’ll be talking about is “Aschenputtel” which is the Germany version, and a modern version “Maid in Manhattan”. My goal in this essay is to compare the historical context between the two, and also the cultural differences
The first of many important similarities is that in the book as well as the movie, May, August Rosaleen and Lily all
“Cinderella and “Tam and Cam are so much alike especially using the workings of magic throughout these tales and also differ in the way that these stories use violence to represent their cultures. Their hope comes from these characters that help them on their paths for Cinderella it was her fairy godmother who created magic and for Tam it was a Buddha who hinted her to create magic reincarnation.
We use compare and contrast every day in our lives to make choices why did you go to the store today and not tomorrow, or why go to work over going to school? All of these questions use compare and contrast to help make a choice. Compare is talking about the similarities and contrast is talking the differences both are necessary for a complete evaluation. Whenever you see words like advantages, disadvantages, evaluate the differences, or relative merits, these all signal the use of compare and contrast in everyday lives. They are two ways to use compare and contrast. The first is subject by subject and second is point by point. Subject by subject looks at each situation as a whole bite. Point by point takes a bite or a part of each situation and looks at the similarities and differences one part at a time. The best method is the one you like the
It is more obvious in this tale than others, but some of these aspects are the nickname of Cinderella, the evil stepfamily, the three balls, and the beautiful slipper. However, Perrault and the brothers Grimm made some parts of the story very different. In the Grimm’s version, Cinderella’s mother was very important to her and she was very important to her father, while in Perrault’s her mother is not even mentioned and her father is more attached to his new wife than he is to his daughter. Perrault described the stepsister’s as less beautiful than Cinderella, while the brothers Grimm described them as just as beautiful but with bad personalities. Another major difference was Cinderella’s magic helper. In Perrault’s story Cinderella had a fairy godmother that gave her horses, a carriage, footmen to escort her, and new beautiful clothes, and in Grimm’s story her magic helper was birds that only provided clothes. A main difference that a lot of people would notice is the fact that in the Grimm’s tale Cinderella’s slipper was made of gold, and in Perrault’s it was glass which is what most people are familiar with. The endings of the stories also differed. The Grimm’s version ended in a much darker way. Both stepsisters got their eyes pecked out and were doomed to live a life of blindness, which was clearly not a very child friendly way to end a story. In
After World War II Disney came out with a few more feature animated movies such as: Cinderalla, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, and Sleeping Beauty. One thing that Snow White, Cinderalla, and Sleeping Beauty all have in common is that they are all stories about princesses who live happily ever after with their prince.
In the twelve version of Cinderella there are many similarities and a couple of differences. First, is the similarities: for example the formulas for their fairy tales seems to remain constant like the characters of the stepfamily are portrayed as evil and vindictive while Cinderella is describe as the sweet and loving per...
A lot of the fairy tale stories that we have seen as young adults and even as adults are original folk tale stories that have been modified and rewritten to accommodate our new cultures. Cinderella happens to be one of these stories that have been changed over the years. There are many different versions of Cinderella, an African Cinderella, a Hungarian Cinderella and even a Chinese version. All of the Cinderella’s are similar in plot, but the author dictates the story’s theme based on the people whom he is writing for which completely changes the story’s tone, mood and other elements. While Perrault's version stresses the values and materialistic worries of his middle-class audience, Grimm’s' focus is on the harsh realities of life associated with the peasant culture. Perrault’s and Grimm’s Cinderella’s have the same plot, but their writing style is different which completely modifies the tale.
The second folk tale is titled From things fall apart. It is a story of a greedy manipulative turtle who tricks a flock of birds out of their feast in the sky, but he soon learns his lesson when the birds take away their feathers and he is forced to jump back to earth thus shattering his smooth shell. This story shows that this culture believes that if you do bad things you will eventually get what is coming to you.The third folk tale is called In the Land of the Small Dragon. This story has many similarities with Cinderella. It is the story of a beautiful young girl named Tam who’s beauty reflects her inner kindness and innocence. Her half-sister Cam is ugly, which reflects her bitter, jealous, and lazy personality. Tams stepmother treats her like a slave and lets Cam do whatever she wants. Later in the story Tam is given new clothes and a
