Compare And Contrast Harriet Tubman And The People Could Fly

Harriet Tubman and The people could fly, are both stories based on slavery. They have many differences and similarities. They are both telling true facts about slavery but they explain them differently. The story Harriet Tubman talks about her life when she was young and how. She learned her life living on a plantation. The story “ The People Could Fly,” Sarah talks about her terrible life as a slave. The main things I will talk about is, escaping, father and daughter relationship and secretive language.
Some similarities are obviously that they are both slaves who are trying to escape their misery. The characters also have a good relationship with their fathers because they taught them how to care for themselves and what to do when they need

it. Sarah’s father gave her the ability to escape with her baby to be free from her cruel town. Tubman’s father showed her that there is no need to be scared all the time and to just believe. She heard him singing and telling stories to comfort his folks.
The differences are that Harriet’s town is a little more “nicer” because when it was issue day, they would give her supplies that they need like clothing, blankets, food and more. On the other hand, Sarah’s town was cruel. A bus driver whipped her baby. No one seemed to do anything but stare. She was furious. So she had to leave. Another difference is that that have different ways of communicating. Tubman’s story is that they sing a forbidden song to comfort others and that is a way they talk to each other and that gives them a better relationship with each other.. The story “The People Could Fly,” is somewhat different because is that they don’t really talk but when they do, they don't want to be involved in whatever the problem it is. Sarah’s people were also more brutal with each other because the bus driver whipped slaves like they aren't the same species. “The driver cracked his whip across the babe anyhow.” (Hamilton, 42)
