Virginia Hamilton’s folktale The People Could Fly is about how and why Sarah, the main character and slave, escaped the plantation she was being forced to work at. The prompt is mainly for those who are mistreating others and those who are being mistreated, but the prompt is for people no younger than ten. The message of this story teaches that freedom can happen in different ways.
