Technology can be the great equalizer in a classroom with diverse learners. Teachers can find it difficult to differentiate instruction for 30+ students in one class, all with different needs and abilities; “assistive technology” can often help teachers personalize lessons and skills enhancement to each child. In most cases, children with learning disabilities have better technology skills than their teachers and are drawn to computers and other gadgets. Millions of students across the United States cannot benefit fully from a traditional educational program because they have a disability that impairs their ability to participate in a typical classroom environment. Guest speakers will be in attendance to share personal experiences and achievements they have encountered in the classroom with the use of technology. We like to include guest speakers because they create a sense of motivation for our teachers as well as provide them with someone to relate to. Our instruction will be presented on a projector by PowerPoint. All of our participants will have access to the information reviewed in the PowerPoint in hand-out form, so that they can follow the instruction without difficulty. Our training course is designed to be undemanding and light, so that our teachers feel relaxed and excited about learning. We limit the amount of lecture delivery and promote a lot of interaction and movement to generate our teacher’s interest and desire to be a part of this learning. Incorporating technology increases students’ motivation to learn and personalizes lessons to a student’s individual needs. Even the students with the most severe and profound disabilities can use assistive technology to join a classroom of typical students, and their potential can be reached in ways we didn’t have before. In chapter four the focus switches away from assistive technology supporting students in one content area and focuses on the teaching profession and how assistive technology can assist teachers to employ a universal design for learning. The Universal Design for Learning (UDL) promote learning that best for the student and promoting students a variety of methods to express their knowledge.
Creating a learning and safe environment where students can grow through a system the gives them the attention and healthy activities they need to expand their minds. I got a quote from John Gatto in his writing “We Need Less Schools, Not More” he states “education is about discovering the meaning and purpose of oneself” (54). Gatto is illustrating that a working education system should push students towards the path of what they enjoy and what they want to learn so they can understand their meaning and purpose when they graduate and walk off into the world. That is why I agree with Gatto on his view of helping students find out there purpose and meaning and adding on to that Gatto also incorporated the importance of making students unique as he also was quoted for saying “your education should make you unique” (56). The importance of being unique is because you bring a different aspect to the table when another people speak upon different ideas. You are able to see things others cannot. Incorporating a trait such as unique will take time but will only benefit us as a country that is why I installed it into my education

However, PowerPoint encourages presentation, not conversation. Bullet points summarize everything into a few words, leaving no area to analyze or discuss the information further. According to Julia Keller (2003) PowerPoint condenses information into a “preconceived format” (para. 8) that is one-sided based on the presenter’s view of the information. Finally, the delivery and overall communication while presenting the PowerPoint presentation Brianna maintained eye contact, talked in appropriate volume and rate of speech, and preserved clarity while speaking. The use of media and visual aids were properly used to help maintenance her supporting topics interesting and informative. I did notice Brianna was well-prepared because she had notes to refer to while presenting just in case she had forgotten something.

In today’s world, technology is transforming conventional methods of every facet of human life; from the way that we grow our crops, to the way that we communicate with one another. Students need to be inspired to think critically. By this they comprehend what has been learned and be able to use it. I hope my students will be able to achieve their greatest potential that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We can give our children these building blocks thru education to use in decision making situations, moral value of their thoughts and actions. This will guide them to realize how their actions and decisions will affect themselves and others.
