Aesop once stated, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” In this time period, many people around the globe only focus on their life, and they do not focus on lifting others up. Kindness is one word that can change lives, even when the person that shows kindness doesn’t even know the impact they are making. One act of kindness does not appear to be very important, but every act makes an impact. The world is full of hatred, war, and terrorism, but anybody can start to make a change. Some reasons that any act of kindness has an impact include other people needing positivity, the start of a chain reaction, and the benefit of other people in the world. One reason that any act of kindness makes an impact is that some people need positivity. First off, one act of kindness could change the receiver’s life forever. If one person holds the door open for somebody else, basically, the receiver of the kind act is benefitting by not having to open the door. Although the example sounds very simple, the act is still helping somebody. If people did not hold the door open in the modern day society, the combined amount of times one would have to open the door would be significant. Secondly, showing kindness builds character. If somebody shows kindness, the people around would start to see the type of person the giver is. Good character is very important in life, and it will earn somebody a lot in life. On the third hand, there is always an opportunity to show kindness. Showing kindness every day is a very good habit to develop, and it would start to make somebody a better person. Every act of kindness will benefit others, and kindness is a great way to bring people
The virtue of kindness is not meek it is not niceness. Kindness holds firm to its foundation and values, but it does it in a way that is gentle. Kindness is not naïve, it is wise and discerning (Corey, 211). People confuse being nice as kindness because on the outside both are soft. The inside is what shows the difference. Niceness has no substance, it will go wherever society takes it. Kindness is different, it has a firm, solid center (Corey xv). The components of soft edges and firm centers make kindness warm and inviting and yet it remains deeply rooted to its core beliefs.
It’s very simple, but creates a world of difference. This means so much to me, in so many ways. Kindness will make a person feel better, even if they aren’t that way themselves. I’ve seen the change simple kindness can make. It can change the outlook on someone’s life, or give someone a little hope.
One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd." I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on. As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. They really should get a life." He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude. I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I asked him if he wanted to play football on Saturday with me and my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him. And my friends thought the same of him.
In my opinion, being nice to people is the foundation for almost everything you’ll do in this world. This book has made me think about the effects of being kind to people. Now, I see that if I do something nice for someone, it not only makes them happy, but it has an impact on me too. I also realize that it influences many things in my life. I see how important it is now to be nice to people, because kindness gets you everywhere now.

Helping is a social behavior that is important in maintaining a civil society. There are many variables related to why some people help while others do not. Gender is one of them that have been previously examined. Helping someone is providing your best strength in accomplishing a task that can be beneficial to the person. When requesting help from someone most of the time we take the gender into consideration. Based on research by Eagle and Crowley (1986), men are generally more likely to be helpful than women. We should all have compassion in our heart, understand another’s feelings or emotions. When I was shopping the other day, I saw a young lady helping an old man in a wheelchair to grab cereals from a shelf. She would gently describe all the boxes on the shelf. Then ask which one he would like. After the old man decided, the young lady grabbed the box and handed over to him. The old man took it over with his trembling hands, and he kept saying. We help elders to accomplish trivial things, such as opening the door and grabbing things they can’t reach. At the same time toddlers also treat other toddlers with compassion. When my four- year- old cousin’s friend wouldn’t stop crying because her dad was going on a business trip. My cousin tried to use a cookie to distract her attention, then she asked if she wants to play rock paper scissors. My cousin lost the game purposely just to make her friend feel happy. Helping is the most powerful way that one can show love and affection for others. Being there for someone who is going through a hard time in his/her life means more than anything for that person. I believe what kept the world still alive is helping one another. For example during the world war I, when European powerful nations are fighting for no reason killing the people who could be their brothers if they weren’t wearing that uniform and holding that gun. When germany was thinking they won the war already, but when the United States join the Allies, everything comes into peace. Woodrow wilson’s plan for peace was achieved by helping the the Allies fight the central powers who influenced the Nation by power, military and economy had to give up their position.

It's true that we all need to make a difference in times of crisis and need, but we also need to strive to make a difference each day. I know that I can make a difference in the lives of many people by simply lending a helping hand or showing kindness to others. I try to take the time to cheer up my grandmother and older friends in the nursing home by paying them a visit. I know my parents stay very busy and it helps them out when I come home and lend a helping hand without being asked. I can help a friend with their homework, or sometimes help by just being there to listen to them.
