Thanksgiving is an important public holiday, celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November, Setting aside time to give thanks for one 's blessing. Even though during this blissful day you are very busy greeting, eating, and socializing with family, everyone has that one favorite moment during the day that they love and will cherish for the rest of their lives. For me thanksgivings are always very monumental, especially last years’ thanksgiving which was my first thanksgiving dinner with my great grandmother. I remember it like it was yesterday; it was November 25th, 2015, Thursday morning. Waking up , all I saw was my mother in the kitchen getting the delectable Dressing ready; while, my uncle was gathering the deep fryer and grease to prepare …show more content…
Between times with helping my mother in the kitchen, I would go outside with my sister and little cousins just to joke around and laugh. In the midst of our humorous conversation, I overheard the soulful outpour of R&B music filling the house. I then knew that Thanksgiving Day had officially commenced. After a while, my mom would call us all in, and sat with us then she began to stress to us the significance of this magnificent holiday. After our family talk we would prepare our flavorstar dishes to be wrapped up to be taken to my grandmother house. As I would help my mother get the food ready I would admire the cinnamon/ sugary scented sweet potato pie which has always been my favorite. Once the food was covered we would all dash down the hall in our bed room and scuttle to get the house clean. Feeling like superwomen and a ball of light, we managed to clean the house in twenty five minutes. After everyone was dressed, we assisted my mom with putting the food in the car. As I lifted the ponderous saran wrapped dressing off the counter I proceed outside. As I hurried out of front door, I remember hearing alluring light colored birds singing as I walked past, sounding like a flock of angles hissing in my ear. At that moment a nippy temperature covered my arms allowing me to feel generous and anxious, but knocking that feeling …show more content…
Getting out the car and walking into my grandma house you could smell the baked cheesy scented mac & cheese with a golden baked crisp which also sent my attention to the oven where I smelled a hint of spicy hot aroma coming from the collard greens. Immediately rushing to the kitchen to put the food down, I ran into my great grandmother. Feeling delighted to see her; I rushed and gave her a hug knowing this was going to be the first thanksgiving with my great grandma I didn’t know how to act. After acknowledging her I continued to go around the house specking to everyone. right after I was done saying hello I ended up in the dinning room where I witnessed three tables being covered with green, orange, and brown table cloths. Right after the tables was cover I saw crystals clear candle holders being carried in holding all white candles. After a while, I was asked to help fold the orange leaf colored napkins and place them in the clear champagne glasses and on the right side of every white gold rim glass plate. With all the moving around and decorating I was doing, I was getting really hungry so I decided to go in the kitchen to see what was still cooking or what was ready for me to test

When the great holiday of Thanksgiving comes to mind, most people think of becoming total gluttons and gorging themselves with a seemingly unending amount of food. Others might think of the time spent with family and friends. The whole basis of the holiday is family togetherness, fellowship, and thankfulness for blessings received during the previous year.
This is a disgrace! To all the turkey’s at Thanksgiving! forty-five million turkey’s are cooked a year. Not only are those awful humans eating us, now they are entrapping us in disgusting cages and making us eat only corn and soybeans. That’s not even the worst part, they put something in our food called vitamins and minerals. I heard yesterday from keith, my turkey friend, that they talk about how they feed turkeys healthy things so that the people who buy the turkeys won’t get sick or something like that. They also say we taste different at different ages.

While this invitation produced anxiety for every person that attended this meal, the toll that it took on my nephew was rather difficult to watch. His father chose to attend the day before Thanksgiving; but a half-hour before the scheduled 2 p.m. time for dinner, he let his son know that his girlfriend and her children had decided to come as well. While the adults scrambled to add additional seating, my nephew excitedly stood outside on the porch anticipating his guests’ arrival. An hour later, this little boy dejectedly wondered whether his father had changed his mind. When his guests finally arrived, we all ate an awkward, cold dinner, and my ex-brother-in-law whisked them all (including my nephew) away to his family’s Thanksgiving meal, which meant that my disappointed nephew never got to share the chocolate pie that he had helped make.
I rushed out of the bedroom confused. I began to realize what was going on. I ran to where I last saw her and she was not there. Never before I felt my heart sank. My eyes filled with tears. I dropped to my knees and felt the cold white tile she last swept and mopped for my family. I look up and around seeing picture frames of of her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren smiling. I turn my head to the right and see the that little statue of the Virgin Mary, the last gift we gave her. I began to cry and walked to my mother hugging her. My father walked dreadfully inside the house. He had rushed my great grandmother to the hospital but time has not on his side. She had a bad heart and was not taking her medication. Later that morning, many people I have never seen before came by to pray. I wandered why this had to happen to her. So much grief and sadness came upon
Mere words can't describe how happy I was to cook. Tea cakes, sweet potato pie, honey glazed pound cake, Roasted turkey and leafy greens. I get to Make them all. Of course since I'm a spoiled brat I had to get my hair ready with my apron. Then and only then will I be able to cook. We were in the kitchen all day. You could just. Smell the richness of the turkey. I could almost taste the silky cream sweet potato pie. It would make your mouth water . Halfway through cooking Most of our family was already here (They were going to sleep the night) They pitched in to help, without them we would’ve been cooking through Thanksgiving.
On a cold winter day, my family was getting ready to meet at my grandma’s house like we had done our whole lives. Christmas was one of the most important days of the year for the Robertson’s. Each aunt made entrées and deserts along with the delicious food that my grandma made each year. Food and family were the two main reasons everyone loved Christmas. On the way to Triune where my family lives, my mother started to cry which I thought was odd for
The purpose of Thanksgiving in Canada is different from the Americans. But even though the reasons for giving thanks are different, many of the customs are the same. Canadian Thanksgiving was originally started to give thanks to God for a bountiful harvest. This was when there were lots of farmers that grew crops. Now we give thanks for everything we appreciate. Some farming families still give thanks for a good crop.
My favorite time of the year is the fall. There’s something about the scattering leaves and the chilly, crisp smelling nights going home after a long rehearsal. This time of the year also happens to include one of my favorite holidays to celebrate, thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a great day to remind yourself of all the things in your life for which you are thankful, from small things like your favorite song or a gift someone gave to you, to more influential things in your life like the people that you care about or a hobby that you may be interested to take up as a career when you are older. Throughout the year it is very easy to take the people and things in your life for granted, forgetting how much better these things make your life. When

I remember on Thanksgiving my grandmother was god a feast for my family. So I go over to my granny to help her out and she said I can help her out with tasting the greens. I dove right into those greens and they taste amazing. So I’m going along just devouring those greens and ask for another bite and she said, “ go ahead baby” and no better words could have came out her
My Grandma is in the kitchen cooking desserts to lay out at Thanksgiving. My Grandpa comes over to help us in the door, and we unpack. A couple days later it is Thanksgiving, I wake up and force myself downstairs to spot breakfast ready. When we finish eating breakfast, my parents head upstairs and get ready.
Myself, my mother, my sister, and my Grandma all sit around the table, with cards fanned out in our hands along with an assortment of more cards strewn across the olive-green tablecloth. We hear a ding from the oven and my sister excitedly throws down her cards and runs over to the oven, flinging the door open. The smell of freshly baked cookies fills the room. My grandma gets up, who is quickly joined by my mother and I, as we take the cookies out of the oven to let them cool off. After fanning the cookies off, we all take a bite and are mesmerized by the flavor.
Finally, we arrived at our destination. I left the car leaving my parents and little brother behind and ran up the steps to my grandma’s house. I just had to be the first one to knock on her door, so I did. She opened the door for me, and I went inside parting with the bitter cold and darkness surrounding me. Inside the house I was immediately encircled with the aromas of her Christmas cooking and baking. A real fresh Christmas tree which was already beautifully adorned with old family ornaments perforated the air with more holiday aromas. I went into the kitchen with my mom, and together we helped my grandma finish preparing the Christmas Eve dinner.
