Stackhouse 1 Stackhouse 2 Cole Stackhouse Hensley Honors English/ Fourth Period 27 January 2016 Three Thanksgivings When the short story Three Thanksgivings begins, Mrs. Delia Morrison, a fifty year old widowed woman, finishes reading two letters. One of the letters is from her son Andrew, and the other from her daughter Jean, both inviting her to have Thanksgiving dinner with her. Along with this request, they mention her selling her house, however, each child has different ideas for where the money will go. Andrew wants to put the money towards her well being, whereas Jean wants the money to be invest in her husband's business. Mrs. Morrison thinks over this financial decision, as she no longer allows boarders to stay in the house. She thinks the extra money is pointless, as it is only enough to pay the interest. Morrison is going to entertain the whole country women at her Welcome House. Hundreds of people pay a visit to hear Mrs. Isabelle Carter Blake, a socialist activist and family woman, talk about the rapid growth of womens clubs in the Unites States and Europe. When Mrs. Blake leaves, the Haddleton Rest and Improvement Club was established at the Welcome House. Hundreds of women join, and the dues quickly add up. The next Thanksgiving Mrs. Morrison spends her time with Jean. The room is the same size as the one at Andrews, but instead of not having a place to work, she gets to help with the children where she ruins her silk clothes. While this is happening, Joe tries to convince her to sell her house. She stays a week before leaving, just like Andrews house. Shortly after she returns she pays her yearly interest to Mr. Butts and then begins to work with her club. Using her management skills, she expands the range of the organization. She rents out almost all the rooms in the house to all sorts of club meetings and
