Thailand udder went rapid industrialization between the years of 1987-1991 spurring economic growth. Although Thailand underwent rapid industrialization most the country was still employed in agriculture. The failure for most of the country to move from agricultural to industry lead to the growth of child trafficking, due to the need of income within the impoverished communities. Thailand thus became a source of transport of child sex trafficking along with a destination country for human trafficking. Sexual terrorism is a mutli-billion dollar industry that helps to drive the expanding government in Thailand specifically a 15 billion dollar industry. Today children are sold off by their families in order to help build the economic standing of that family. Consequently sexual exploitation is considered socially acceptable as long as the profits are going toward the betterment of the child’s family. Due to the lack of wealth within Thailand girls are viewed as commodities. Children make up about forty percent of the prostitutes in Thailand, with most of these children being between the ages of twelve to sixteen. These girls are sold off for as little as fifteen US dollars because of the immense poverty many of these families face. Sexual exploitation of female children in Thailand is cause by economic disparity due to the newly industrialization of Thailand which also results in the governments lack of enforcement because of the social norm regarding women in Thailand.

...iland. The government must first fully enforce the laws that they have set forth. The government must also ensure that those in violation of child trafficking laws be prosecuted and face harsh consequences because without consequence there will be no fear of reoffending. With government intervention on the side of enforcement and punishment there must also be governmental education. The Thai government must provide a way for its citizens and cohabitates to means of obtaining a better economic status.
The problem of child exploitation is far too common in Thailand. Female children are being targeted because of their lack of rights and overall economic status. In order to eliminate the unfair exploitation of girls in Thailand the Thai government must take responsibility for their lack of enforcement and provide a way for its people to obtain a livable future.
