Society often overlook crimes that are not as trending, meaning, if a certain crime was not featured often on TV even with high severity, then it would not be viewed as a major issue. One prime example is child sex prostitution. There are not a lot research concerning this particular type of crime, in addition to a small amount of ample evidence supporting the level of severity, and coming up with prevention policy (Reid, 2012). Despite minimal amount of research investment, there is a growing pattern for this type of service, both around the world and United States (Fong & Cardoso, 2010). Although, most sex trafficking cases are often more associated with adults, it is actually the youth and/or child populations that are increasing in the …show more content…
The following contents will take a brief look at child sex trafficking in terms of age range, destructive outcome. Furthermore, it will provide an explanation on different causes and effects regarding the circumstances, or modes that encourage young populations into sexual trafficking. Awareness of child sexual trafficking can be viewed as a balanced scale, with one side representing the country’s population that is fully informed of the issue, while the other side is either unaware or unattached to the issue. The public needs to have more involvement with this affair based on multiple concerns; first, the act of child sex trafficking itself is a serious crime that violates human rights (Fong & Cardoso, 2010). Second, various negative health repercussion including transmittable sexual diseases, physical damages, mental disturbance, post traumatic stress disorders, and other illnesses plague many victims (Fong & Cardoso, 2010). Third, sexual trafficking is responsible for generating poverty as a result of obstructing economic, and social development (Reid, 2012). (Reid & Piquero, 2014). There are some common terminologies regarding the determinants that led many young victims into this path; the first one is “love bombing”, this term is coined by many gang members, which infers promises made to young victims for love or better lives, then requiring them to earn money through sex trafficking (Reid, 2014). The second term is “entrapment”, this general term regards to schemes that a pimp or exploiter can use to influence the victims’ emotions in order to force them into perform sexual trafficking (Reid, 2014). A few familiar examples can be: normalizing sex, isolation, flatter or romance, preying on intellectually disabled youths (Reid, 2014), false agencies advertise for modeling opportunity, but often turns out to be abduction traps leading to sex trafficking (Hodge, 2008). The entrapment examples above vary in repetition, some are used often, while others are special cases (Reid, 2014). Another term is “enmeshment”, this term offers an alternative conception for emotional factors being reasons why a child victim would be linked to sex trafficking situations; for examples, loyalty, a sense of obligation, pimps provide hope to return to family, intimidations, or fear of harming loved ones (Reid, 2014). It is also highly conventional to threaten pregnant female victims, ranging from
Many people are victims of sexual trafficking and this horror must be stopped for the sake of the innocent girls and women who are being taken advantage of. Trafficking is a form of modern slavery, because people’s bodies are sold for the gain of others against their wills. The steps that must be taken to prevent sexual trafficking involve raising political and social awareness, people working together and the prosecution of traffickers. Awareness of sex trafficking is very important because it can lead to the prevention of modern slavery. Lack of awareness is a major reason for the existence of modern slavery, because not many people know what to do about it.
This is an interdisciplinary paper, which focuses on the trafficking of young women and children into prostitution. It starts with a brief description of what is human trafficking and how it works as a business. Then, it focuses on the sex trafficking part of it and how young women and children are more vulnerable to victimization and exploitation. Many victims of human trafficking are under this idea of debt bondage, which is sort of the commitment that victims have with their traffickers. Victims are forced to work until they pay their debt, which most of the time is unpayable. Public corruption is one of the many reasons why many traffickers can transport their victims within or out of the country, which can make it harder to help the victims,
Identifying the victims and rescuing them is the main key to preventing human trafficking, which in turn reduces costs to the healthcare system. Human trafficking is a form of organized crime. It involves a hierarchical system, which is similar to that of other criminal organizations. The traffickers represent every social, racial and ethnic group. Some traffickers are involved with local gangs, while others are members are part of nationally recognized gangs and organizations. Some traffickers are independent and do not have any affiliation with other gangs or organizations. Traffickers exist irrespective of gender. There are several women in human trafficking activities along with men. Several young girls living on the streets, engage in prostitution. Some of them are involved in nationwide organized criminal activities where the organizers of crime force these young girls into human trafficking. It is problematic to enforce anti-trafficking laws because in most of these cases, the victims do not tell the identity of the traffickers with the fear of being
Domestic sex trafficking is the vile new innovative business model used in the sex industry to promote prostitution. The myth about sex trafficking is that it is a foreign not a domestic problem. Sex trafficking is a very lucrative business. The “John’s” create a demand and the “pimps” provide the supply. Child abuse, child neglect, pornography, pedophilia and prostitution are all links in the chains that enslaves America’s children for the pleasure of adults.
The main players in the prostitution business are the pimps, prostitutes and Johns. The pimps job is to locate and train the prostitutes. Prime candidates for pimps are generally young women and girls with who have been neglected and abuse. These girls usually have very low self-esteem. Runaways are a perfect target because they fit the profile and often no one is looking for them. He then finds their weaknesses and exploits them. The younger they are the better. Children are easier to manipulate. Train up a child in the way that they should go…by the time the children become adults, the pimps have them broken down. They are dependent on their pimp. Often t...
Meaning that a victim can be anyone, regardless of their gender identity, sexual orientation, race, or socioeconomic status. Raising more awareness and increasing the amount of education regarding this topic is vital in both metropolitan and non-metropolitan communities. Teaching youth at an early age what a healthy and unhealthy relationship looks like and how to be safe on the Internet is key in combating the issue of exploitation and trafficking. As well as training professionals and individuals who may come across victims in any setting to be able to recognize the signs of sexual exploitation and sexual trafficking. With an increase in training and awareness, the world may be able to gain a more realistic calculation of how many individuals are affected by either sexual exploitation or sexual trafficking.
In the last several decades, the issue of child sex trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) has become a global epidemic. Child sex trafficking is defined as the sexual exploitation of anyone under the age of eighteen and can include many forms of exploitation such as prostitution, child pornography, and child sex tourism for financial gain. This article provides an examination of what is currently known about child sex trafficking, the historical context of child sex trafficking including the implication of major anti-sex trafficking legislation and the awareness bought by the media, the use of theories such as the Radical Race Feminism, and Addiction Theory to understand CSEC victims, the implication of key policies
June 19, 1865 was the day that slavery ended in the south. However, slavery is not over for the 300,000 children under the age of 18 who may become victims of sex trafficking each year. Reports state that sex trafficking generates a profit of $32 billion every year. This is problem is an ever present struggle in today 's society. Many of these people, young and old, who are in the business of human trafficking today, are trapped in it against their will. However, legislative policies, and current courses of actions are working to eradicate the industry of selling humans. Consequently, the most efficient way of dissolving sex trafficking is by education and prevention. Therefore, the informative properties of this paper will help the reader
Sex trafficking is defined as "Trafficking in Persons as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labor or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs."(http://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/human-trafficking/what-is-human-trafficking.html) In my essay on sex trafficking i will be discussing three levels of sex trafficking that do not even begin to cover the surface of the problem. What are the causes of human trafficking? And what effects it has on the victims? Families? Society as a whole? These are questions that plague one’s mind and here i will help answer some questions one may have on sex trafficking.
Sex trafficking is a world wide epidemic. It targets unknowing victims such as women and children enslaving them and exploiting their innocence. Human trafficking is becoming one of the biggest money making organized crimes in the world. The sex trade is one of the most profitable of all current slave trades. Through the age, gender, class, and race many are trapped in a never-ending cycle of coercion and abuse in order to survive in the corrupt society around them. In order to stop this monstrosity in the world, we need to start at the root of the problem. We must bridge the barriers between gender, class, and race in order to respect one another and live in harmony
Sex trafficking is a vastly intricate, prosperous business throughout the globe. The sex trafficking industry is constructed off of the exploitation of one individual in order to satisfy another individual’s sexual desires. This satisfaction is carried out by the exploited individual, and in turn yields monetary gains for the individual(s) who trafficked him/her. The sex trafficking industry touches and influences every country on this planet. In this class I have learned about the methods sex traffickers practice to obtain their victims, who sex traffickers target, and the faults in prosecuting sex traffickers.
Children still face challenges even when they reach out for help, escape or are rescued. Some survivors of child sex trafficking are, at first, arrested and treated as delinquents. Society prescribed labels for those in the sex industry are often degrading, and children feel as if they can’t live a normal life anymore. They might think that they’re stuck living a life of prostitution and that they don’t have any options. In some cases and in many cultures, children – particularly girls – that have been sexually violated are no longer accepted in their families or communities because they are seen as
About 600,000 children under 18 are estimated to be involved with prostitution and pornography, the average age entry to pornography and prostitution is 12. 1 out of 3 of 2.8 million of kids living in the streets will be lured into prostitution about 2 days after leaving home (“Statistics”). There are few social issues that trigger as much outrage as child prostitution or sex trafficking. Child prostitution is a serious world-wide dilemma, and there is so much more to this issue then just the traditional main-stream information. There are three main factors to this topic, who it affects, where it happens, and what we can do to help.
In fact, the lack of sufficient attention to this kind of social issue has resulted in no reliable estimation of the actual number of victims or a way to prevent such underground business from continuing in our society. In the article, “Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking in United States,” the author pointed out that some of the major commercial sex markets to include the United States, Jamaica, Japan, and the Netherlands maintain a sense of a “culture of tolerance.” By just focusing on the United States, the article stated that the “United States [is] shaped by a culture that glamorizes pimping and prostitution.” One can carefully notice that song lyrics, online or video games, clothing, and many media platforms are all promoting such a “culture of tolerance” that glamorizes pimps to be embodied in our daily lives. From my personal experience, I remember last year when my father accidentally bought a video game called GTA without checking the rating for my little brother to play. I went online to conduct some research on this video game in order to ensure it was appropriate for my little brother to play. I thought it was a car racing game, but surprisingly, there are certain scenes which include pimps and commercial sexual exploitation. As such, I do think that growing youth are lured into the commercial sex trade business, and the pimp culture is being normalized. The commercial sex trade
Human trafficking is a widespread issue worldwide. Child sex trafficking is a subcategory in this. A common misperception however is that it is not a domestic problem within the borders of the United States, and that it is the responsibility of other countries to tackle this issue. This is not true; according to UNICEF, the United States serves both as a source and transit location for victims of the trade, and all 50 states have reported instances of child trafficking and the exploitation of minors. Thus, there is indeed a possibility to affect the global issue by implementing stricter policies and changing practices when it comes to child sex labor. The question is then rather not “if”, but “how”, this is to be done. There are various approaches
