On Sunday, April 24, 2016, at 3:00 p. m., I attended a live performance of The Little Mermaid at The Milburn Stone Theatre at Cecil College in North East, Maryland. The Milburn Stone Theatre is a proscenium theatre. The stage is fixed and the house is raked. There are balconies on either side of the theater which were decorated with lights and tapestry in blue to represent the central theme of the ocean which is where most of Act I takes place. I sat in the fourth row, end seat, to the far right of the theater. From my seat, I could observe the action in the left wing. The wings are the areas offstage, to each side, where scenery is stored and manipulated before being brought on stage. In this production, most of the scenery was built on platforms with wheels and was moved to and fro with little effort. …show more content…

She spies Prince Eric and falls hopelessly in love. Sebastian the crab is sent by the king to keep an eye on Ariel, though he cannot stop her from rescuing the prince during a storm. Prince Eric is awakened on the shore by the sound of Ariel’s beautiful singing voice before she vanishes and he eventually vows to find his princess by listening to all of the fair maidens sing. He will know her by the sound of her voice. Meanwhile, Ursula the sea witch, plots to grant Ariel's wish to be human, in exchange for her beautiful voice, and as part of a larger scheme to gain control of Triton's realm. Eric finds himself falling for the now-human mermaid, after rescuing her from the same shore where she rescued him. But Ursula tricks him and Ariel, now mute, her voice trapped in Ursula’s shell, and cannot warn him. Finally, Ariel and Eric foil Ursula's evil plans, retrieve Ariel’s voice from the shell, save the undersea kingdom, and receive Triton's blessing. They are married and live happily ever
