The twenty-first century has become the key to a massive increase in new technological advances. As a result of all of these advances, the newest generations have unconsciously become the main target to such technological improvements. Almost every household has at least one television in it, which is used to connect household members to the rest of today's world. Television can be seen as a mean of being able to stay up to date, and in the case of parents, to be within range of educational programs for their children. Television is seen as something good or evil depending on the people and circumstances. Some parents consider television to be one of the worse technological inventions of all times, while others find it to be one of the most beneficial inventions ever created.
I personally feel that television forms part of a big role in children's development whether it is used adequately or not, and the real effects on how it affects children are still on progress on being discovered. It mainly has a lot to do with the way the parents supervise the time and usage . With the increasing rates inn technology and newer types of devices being created to allow people to connect to different networking sites and broadcastings is very hard to put all the blame just on television itself. When television was first invented it was consider a luxury not many could afford, yet again it still manage to form part of many families daily routines, but it did not play such a strong role or influence; but now with the great advances in technology it has become more of a necessity than a option or luxury.

In conclusion allowing kids to spend long periods of time watching television causes more negative than positive side effects and the best defense is to be able to help our children control the levels of time spent in front of the television and teach them auto control so they can make healthier an smarter choices when it comes to picking broadcasts. We can help children spend less time watching Television and encourage them to spend those extra hours reading, studying, going out and playing outdoors, communicating with others and creating better social skills.
People still argue about whether or not television can be used in healthy useful ways with out causing any harm along the way and the answer beyond that is a little more tricky than previously assumed .
In conclusion, I will say that television has changed the way families were and are because when parents use television as a baby sitter they began to lose touch with their children. Also, television affected how a child would progress physically or mentally. We as parents should spend more time with our children and cut down the television time. The relationships that build between parents and children throughout their lives have a long lasting impact on what kind of person he or she will become.
Television has become a big part in children’s day-to-day lives especially in the 20th century. Children in this century rely on television to keep them entertained and educated instead of entertaining and educating themselves by participating in activities, which will teach them a lot more in life then the actual television. There is no doubt that children are most easily influenced by television because of the different content that they watch as well as the amount of time consumed watching TV. The television does have an emotional and intellectual development on children but this all depends on the content that they’re watching and the way that they absorb the information that the show is trying to send out. Different programs will portray
In the essay "Why We Tuned Out" by Karen Springen she brings up many facts of how TV is bad for kids. She has many details explaining her topic and contains some good advice of how TV is bad for children. She claims that children who watch television more than 10 hours a week are likely to become overweight and are slow to learn in school. TV contains many events in our social life. It contains many educated channels, but some that arn't willing for kids to watch.
One of the largest “booms” that this country has witnessed is in the area of the ultimate “entertainment” source, the television. The growth in popularity of the use of the television is harming Americans in every aspect of their lives,
Television has been around for decades. On average people tend to watch television on a daily basis. As society is advancing in the world so is the television culture. People have debated on whether or not television is beneficial for people. Watching television does have an influence on society like keeping you updated on what is going around the world and it is entertaining for people to watch television. It should not be a big deal because in this generation people tend to watch television every day. Television helps individuals exercise their brain and it also help people relieve stress.
Parents, Health experts and Psychologists all dreaded the potential effects that television could have. It was said that long hours watching tv would only have detrimental effects on the social and the emotional development of kids. Television also decreased the quality of family life as well as increasing the obesity rate quite rapidly.
... viewing quality becomes and the more channels we can get, the more people are likely to stay inside. Don’t get me wrong, I love TV, and I feel that it is one of the most important inventions that this world has been blessed with; but I feel that it is taking away from some of the “realness” of our lives. People are becoming less healthy, they are developing eye and other health problems, and they don’t know what is real and what is not any more. I hope that in the future television designers and makers can develop so new technologies that would improve and not worsen our environment. The television is a very helpful and important tool that has had a great impact on our society, but we need to be aware of how this tool has also affected out environment as well, so next time you watch you television, think about what impact you might be having on our environment!
Television is something that is easily accessible for any child. I can agree with Postman when he stated that the transformation of childhood was when literacy disappeared, education disappeared, shame disappeared and essentially childhood disappeared. Though, he predicted all of this in the 90’s, I see it happening every day. The culture of our current generation of children has completely changed from when I was a child and the young are more tech-savvy than generations before (Postman, 1994).
Television is everywhere these days, not just in our living rooms but in bathrooms, kitchens, doctor's offices, grocery stores, airplanes, and classrooms. We have access to TV virtually anywhere and as American's we are taking advantaged of it. Adults aren't the only ones watching TV; children today are watching more TV than ever before. TV has even become known as "America's baby-sitter." (Krieg). Meaning that parents are now using the television as a way of entertaining their children while they attempt to accomplish other things such as cooking and cleaning.
According to experts, children who watch too much TV tend to be less interested in physical activity, often develop verbal skills more slowly and tend to be less confident in social situations.
Our generation has been raised in a technological advanced world and there has been definite controversy over many of these innovations that this new culture has brought. An innovation that has troubled the youth of America for many years is television. Although there is no certainty to eliminate this 'plug-in drug,'; there are many ways to control and monitor your television as a parent.
Without a doubt, television is the central and principal form of communication in many people’s lives. This form is most often exposed to a child who instantly becomes accustomed to its presence. Children are televisions largest audience, as Morris shows, “Children aged two to five look at the TV tube on an average of 28.4 hours a week; those between the ages of six and eleven average 23.6 hours a week”. Television has played an important role in many children’s lives and its viewing has been a favorite activity for many of them. The effects of television on children have been disputed. Some people have said that viewing time has a negative impact on children. Other people, however, feel that the early educational television productions for children help tehm learn.
To many children, TV can be appealing because they find the colorful cartoons interesting and instantly catches their attention. But, as entertaining and fun Television can be, spending too much time looking at your big fifty inch flat screen TV can eventually impact your life. It seems like if you just spend all your time sitting on the couch, you may find yourself preparing fast meals, such as a ham sandwich thrown with some potato chips on a plate or just driving to buying something from McDonald’s. But this can eventually affect your health. If we give Television too much attention it can also affect relationships with parents, siblings or a partner. It can slowly become an easy addiction to come home to, sit on the couch and spend the rest of the day watching all the shows we like. Lastly, too much Television can affect our mood which can lead to certain thinking and
First, children who normally watch TV are more likely to have delayed brain development. For example, by constantly watching TV, children will be lack of natural skill exploring such as language development on learning and attention. According to Mary L. Courage, who is a researcher professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland, “Exposure to the unnaturally fast pace of sound and image change in video material during this sensitive period might alter synaptic connections in the neural networks underlying attention and shorten the infant’s attention span” (73). Basically, she is saying that many children started at...
One of the physiological effects of watching television in excessive amounts is eye-strain. It is true that there are specifications for watching television; television should be 5 m. away from the eye, the room should be adequately lit, television should be placed at the same height with our eyes, etc. However, these do not prevent our eyes from getting tired if we keep watching television for a long time. Another effect is obesity, which is widely observed in people who like watching television and eating snacks everyday (there is even a term “television snacks” to refer to fast food that is suitable for eating in front of the television). television is such a powerful machine that people cannot get away from it – it is addictive. Apart from the physiological effects, television also causes psychological effects. One is a result of being exposed to
