Teenage Sex
Sexually active teenagers, in America, are a significant problem we must look at. A question that rings in the minds of teenagers everywhere is when to have sex. Our Catholic teachings, instruct us to wait until one is in a loving marriage to have sex. Not only is the church preaching abstinence, but now public schools are also teaching students on the advantages of abstinence. Premarital sex is a growing, and important issue. Premarital sex is usually the cause of sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy, and deep, emotions of regret.
Sexually transmitted diseases flourish in a society of premarital sex, where teens have many sex partners. A direct result of this, is STD's becoming more abundant among the population. One reason for the plague of STD's is the misuse of contraceptives by teens. Many teens believe that condoms, or the pill prohibit the spread of herpes, AIDS, or other diseases, but in fact, they do not stop the spread, and no where do the products state that they do stop the spread of STDs. Three million new cases of sexually transmitted diseases among teens are reported each year. Many teens that believe nothing is wrong in committing premarital sex have intercourse with many different teens through the ages of 15 and 19, and increase the chance of spreading sexually transmitted diseases each time. With sexual intercourse on the rise with high school students, and its acceptance among the public, even more teens are having sex now, to the point that every eleven seconds a teen has sex for their first time. Seventy percent of these students say they were socially pressured into having sex. If society has the power to pressuring teens to have sex, society ought to use that power to educate teems about the dangers of premarital sex.
Sex before marriage has also been one of the major causes of teen pregnancy. Teens often think that pregnancy just cannot happen to them, yet teen pregnancy grows each year, and shows no stop. Carelessness is the significant factor in teen pregnancy, whether the carelessness is in contraceptive use, or choosing of a partner. Teens just use different forms of contraceptives and birth control incorrectly.
Historians do not have access to many documents that elaborate on the Knights Templar, but what they do have access to demonstrates that the Knights Templar, were extremely influential on the Medieval Church. The Knights Templar, a fairly controversial and secretive order, has been greatly misunderstood since the order began in the Middle Ages. Despite the misunderstandings and controversy, the Knights Templar had many good accomplishments; including protecting Christian pilgrims, defending the Church from heresy and blasphemy, and helping oppressed Christians.
The second reason for contraceptives being given to teenagers, will help them avoid many dangerous Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) associated with unsafe sexual practices. Studies have shown an increase in unprotected sexuality among teenagers can result in a wide-range of social problems, such as STDs. The topic of birth control in public schools has attracted much support from the American public, according to statistics surveyed. For example, a 2006 Associated Press-Ipsos survey discovered that 67% of Americans support the provision of contraceptives to students. This study also determined that, “About as many - 62 percent - said they believe providing birth control reduces the number of teenage pregnancies” (Associated Press).
It has been almost thirty three years since the first federal funding was put to use in “. . . sex education programs that promote abstinence-only-until-marriage to the exclusion of all other approaches . . .” according to the article “Sex education” (2010) published by “Opposing Viewpoints in Context;” a website that specializes in covering social issues. Since then a muddy controversy has arisen over whether that is the best approach. On one hand is the traditional approach of abstinence (not having sex before marriage), and on the other is the idea that what is being done is not enough, and that there needs to be a more comprehensive approach. This entails not only warning against sex, but also teaching teens about how to have “Safe Sex” (“Sex Education,” 2010).
Today’s young Americans face strong peer pressure to be sexually active and engage themselves in risky behaviors (Merino 100-109). Anyone deciding to have sex must first think about all the risks involved. Kekla Magoon, author of Sex Education in Schools, says that “half of all teens aged 15 to 19 years old in the United States have had sex” (Magoon 64-65). It is currently not required by federal law for schools to teach Sex education and those few schools that do teach Sex education have the decision to determine how much information is allowed. Advocates from both sides of the Sex education debate agree that teens need positive influences in order to make practical decisions (Magoon 88-89). Opponents of Abstinence-only education believe it fails because it does not prepare teens for all the risks of sex (Magoon 64-65).
...en so successful in restraining the government is the amendments. Amendments are basically things that can be added to the Constitution or change the Constitution. The men who wrote the Constitution believed that the government of the United States should stay in the future and change with the times. This enables the citizens to be able to have an opportunity to change the Constitution.
The Knights Templar were the manifestation of a "new chivalry" which united the seemingly incompatible roles of monk and warrior. As the first religious military order, these dedicated men were models for successive orders including the Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, later known as the Hospitallers, and the Teutonic Knights of the Hospital of St. Mary, two contemporary, rival brotherhoods. These and other orders, flourishing during the 12th-14th centuries as protectors of the Holy Land, were the first standing troops to be properly trained and commanded in Western Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire (Seward 17). The extraordinary story of the Knights Templar ranges from its humble establishment to a period of extreme prosperity, and, finally, to a tragic, haunting conclusion.
Although some educators believe abstinence is the best way to teach sexual education to high school students, it often lacks the necessary information to help the teen make good decisions with their sex life. We should be giving the youth of today a complete sexual education curriculum and trust them to make the right decision on contraceptive and “staying safe”. Students should be taught the information concerning the different types of contraceptives available, the sexually transmitted diseases that can be contracted, and the effects. Having this information will allow the student to evaluate their decisions and make an educated decision about having sex.
Harry Houdini was one of the most popular and accomplished magician during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and to this day his name is associated with magic and illusion. Not only was he able to obtain the American Dream by moving from Austria-Hungary to Wisconsin and becoming a very successful man, he changed the game of magic forever by performing impossible tricks and dangerous stunts. Although most of his performances toyed with death, he attracted all audiences and thrilled his crowds. Known for slipping out of ropes, chains, and handcuffs, Houdini became a world famous magician and escape artist who influenced many of the magicians we know today.

The process of getting pregnant is one of wondrous measures. Having a family is one of the first human rights—not law—that we learn as kids, but there are many instances to where some are not able to conceive as easy as others. In such instances, there is a solution that women can undergo to have the family they have dreamed of. The solution: In-Vitro Fertilization, otherwise known as IVF therapy. IVF is one way of having a family of your own; however, an emotional debate has attended the question of whether health insurance should cover the cost of In-Vitro Fertilization for infertile couples. Some private health plans have opted to cover IVF, although most have not. Ten states have mandated that it be included or offered as a standard benefit for private health insurance plans. If insurance providers choose to offer benefits for infertility treatments, some of those costs could be mitigated and the treatment may be more accessible.

Nicotine is absorbed into the blood stream when using tobacco. The body becomes addicted to the buzz tobacco produces after a period of time. This keeps people from quitting tobacco use even if they want to quit. Nicotine withdrawal symptoms include headache, nausea, constipation or diarrhea, fatigue, irritability, and anxiety. “Most smokers’ do not even like the fact they smoke; cigarettes are not a recreational drug. Most smokers ‘enjoy’ smoking only in the sense that it relieves the pains of withdrawal; they need nicotine to feel normal. People who say they enjoy cigarettes are rather rare—so rare that the industry used to call them ‘enjoyers’. Surveys show that most smokers want to quit but cannot; they also regret having started” (Proctor). Large amounts of United States citizens have attempted to quit smoking but have failed. Statistics from Frank Newport, PhD. Editor-in-Chief of Gallup Inc. say most current smokers in the United States would like to give up smoking. 85% of smokers say they have in fact tried to quit at least once in their lifetime, including 45% who have tried at least three times. A ban of tobacco production and sales could potentially raise awareness of how dangerous nicotine addiction
One of the United States’ current social problems and most discussed “hot topics” is adolescent pregnancy, otherwise known as teenage pregnancy. The majorities of teenage pregnancies are unplanned and lead to serious consequences for the parents and even possibly the child. It is important that today’s teens are well aware of the repercussions of teenage pregnancy because it is a very serious matter that can eventually lead to lifelong consequences. Even though teenage pregnancies have decreased in the past years, it is still a very prevalent issue in the United States and contributes to other current social problems such as poverty and poor education. The current cycle starts with teenage pregnancy and then leads to poor education, which leads to not many job opportunities, which leads to poverty, which can then lead to many other issues of the family like abuse and mental issues. Teenage pregnancy is so important that it is even considered one of the top six priorities of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2012). Through the studies of risk factors and data regarding teenage pregnancy, trends arise that exemplify social issues and problems that can subsequently be dealt with by various methods presented by health professionals.
