781 Words2 Pages

There are many misconceptions that adults and society have about teens. These misconceptions can be seen in the media, and in the way parents and teachers talk and act towards teens. Contrary to common misconceptions, teenagers are not lazy, teenagers are able to communicate and express their thoughts clearly, and not all teenagers are disrespectful and careless. These three misconceptions have greatly affected the way adults act towards teenagers and have created a belief that the opinions of teenagers should not be regarded simply due to their age.
While watching television and movies, teenagers are often portrayed as being lazy and stupid. They are either shown doing nothing but playing video games, or doing nothing but texting. ...fe. The majority of teenagers do make careful considerations while making decisions about school, and other options that are important to them. Many teens take their music and sports very seriously. Similar to adults, teenagers are very careful when they do things that they like, and are very respectful to those who are respectful to them as well.
Overall, among the many misconceptions about teenagers, these three are the most prevalent. Teenagers are not lazy, teenagers are not disrespectful, and teenagers are able to communicate their thoughts clearly. As a group teenagers can be as intelligent as adults and should have their opinions and ideas respected and listened to. As a society, adults most respect teens and teens must also respect adults. This way, all misconceptions about teenagers and adults are dispelled, and both sides are listened to and respected.
