As technology changes, is the morality of society diminishing? In the novel, Brave New World, Aldous Huxley suggests that technology will destroy morality. Huxley writes about a future society that is controlled by technology. In this society almost all human values do not exist, people do not have parents and all humans are produced and designed in factories. This idea can be applied to the modern era. Technology is advancing so quickly, that people are starting to question their ethics. The advance of technology will eventually destroy morality. This is because social media moves so quickly that people don’t have enough time to form emotions on social matters, progression of science is creating issues of ethics, technology increases the amount of choices, which also increases the chances of us regretting our choice, and lastly,
With new stories shared on social media every second, people do not have enough time to form emotions on current events. As people are reading one story, another is being posted. This does not give you enough time to develop moral values or emotions on the story. "If things are happening too fast, you may not ever fully experience emotions about other people's psychological states and that would have implications for your morality," says Mary Helen Immordino-Yang. Humans need time to develop morals and values, and fast-paced social networks are not allowing for these values to be formed. Tim Challies believes that although people can pick traits for children, they may also regret their decision in the future. If people pick traits of their child and it comes out “wrong,” will the parents not love them (Challies)? The morality of parents will change if they can customize their own children because any mistake will make the child unloved. In Huxley’s novel, the citizens of the London have no parents. When scientists create babies in a lab, they are opening up the possibility that society will become completely customized and that parents will not exist. Tim Challies stated that “Endless choice brings endless regret.” This regret has the potential to change the morality of society.
