Did you know that average cost to produce a musical is around $10 million? Musicals on Broadway simply would not happen if there weren’t investors putting their money into the play and the producers are a huge part getting their ideas out there and perfecting it to satisfy the audience. Tarzan and Beauty and the Beast was listed in the top ten most expensive musicals. Tarzan itself came in seventh place with $16 million and Beauty and the Beast was fourth on the list with $17.4 million [LORENA]. Tarzan the musical was based off the book. The book was written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and it was published in 1914. The songs were produced by David Henry Hwang and Phil Collins. The original Broadway production opened in 2006. The production ran for 35 previews and 486 performances. This production also showed in different countries like in Netherland, Sweden, Germany and Philippines. In the first act, a family survives a ship wreck and they protect their son whose name is Tarzan. Kerchak, the leader of a tribe of gorillas just had an infant son and a leopard kidnaps the baby gorilla. The mom gorilla, Kala, goes to look for her son but finds the human boy instead. She mothers him and raises him despite Kerchak's refusal to treat Tarzan as his son. Tarzan cannot keep up with the tribe and Kerchak views him as a threat. Tarzan becomes friends with a young gorilla who teaches him the ways of the jungle. Kerchak finds Tarzan constructing a spear and kicks him out of the tribe.
