On a mother’s day it is only fitting to consider the example of this godly mother taken from the pages of the book of Exodus
Join me as we together look at this godly mom
• She was a godly woman
God had great plans for Moses, and when he was looking for someone to help fulfill His plans, who did He choose? He committed him to his own mother. Moses' parents were individuals who were true to God at a time when many of their contemporaries were turning away from Jehovah These are the kind of women whom God can use to produce men that He can use.
• She inherited a vision of of what He had appointed for her child
Three times over we read that “she saw that he was a goodly child” (Exodus 2:2; Acts 7:20; Hebrews 11:23)
As the little one lay in her lap, Jochebed felt that he was a goodly child .Notice very carefully this verse “goodly child “because it was the key to a number of things that were true in the life of Moses. This statement that she made was very significant

Yet she was able to see him as a child that God was going to use.Looking at our children even when they misbehave or go wayward, are we able to say like jochebed… WE SHOULD!!! Cause there is power in our thoughts and words!!
• She was a woman of faith
Insight into the heart of Jochebed may be gleaned from Hebrews 11:23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents. –
Pharaoh’s decree, one of Satan's early efforts to prevent the birth of the Messiah by attacking the Jewish race, must have been a tremendous test of Jochebed's faith.Imagine her feelings when the child was born and the midwife told her it was a boy? What maternal grief must have been
Are all mothers fit for motherhood? The concept of motherhood is scrutinized in the stories “The Rocking Horse Winner” and “Tears Idle Tears”. In “The Rocking Horse Winner” by D.H Lawrence the mother, Hester, unpremeditatedly provokes her son into providing for her through gambling. In the story “Tears Idle Tears” by Elizabeth Bowen, Mrs. Dickinson disregards her son’s emotions and puts more emphasis in her appearance than her son’s wellbeing. Hester and Mrs. Dickinson both were inadequate mothers. Both the mothers were materialistic, pretended to love their offspring, and their dominance hindered their children’s progress in life.
...n our country. She’s saying that the advancement of women is getting stuck between a rock and a hard place. This was such a strong point in her speech because it shed light into the logical thinking, and made a historical connection to slavery. By making this connection, she was able to help many see that women were convicted slaves to the current state of the union.
In her embracement of the principle as Christ as Mother in the Second placement of Trinity she invokes a mothers unconditional love of her children. We are reminded of the passages in Isaiah of the Lord’s feeding his children as a mother feeds her children at her bosom. Providing the manna they need. This invokes New Testament passages as well as Christ teaches we will be provided manna through Him. In her theology of Motherhood we see Christ as our Mother in his birthing of our new creation and rebirth in our acceptance of Him as Savior during the Passion of crucifixion.
A mother is someone that would risk a speeding ticket to get her child to a hospital. A mother is someone that cooks for her family delicious food. A mother is someone that loves her children, even when they disrespect her. A mother is someone who risks all she has for her children. A mother is a HERO! The qualities of a hero are being intelligent, caring, and courageous. Two heroes that display these aspects are Odysseus from the epic The Odyssey and a modern mother. Odysseus, a soldier and a leader, on his journey back from the war of Troy, let the Cyclopes eat his men. In contrast, a modern mom saves her children by rushing to the hospital to save them.
Because of this, Jocasta sends her son away to die in an effort to prevent the prophecy of the Gods. This belief that she could outwit the gods and avoid the prophecy indicates Jocasta’s extreme excessive pride. She assumed she was more powerful than the Gods and could run away from her fate. It was foolish of her to believe all was well after trying to intervene with her future she knew to be inevitable. What Jocasta does not know is that her son didn 't die and the prophecies did, in fact, come true. Yet, because she is filled with so much pride, she lives her life with the inability to see the truth. Jocasta thinks because she sent her son away to be killed, the problem of the prophecy is solved; but this isn’t the case. She ends up doing the very thing she was certain could never happen and marries her
Jocasta’s compliance to the demands of the men around her is revealed through her constant role as a nurturing mother, one who provides emotional connections, but cannot make decisions. This role spans throughout the entire prophecy, throughout her entire life, and throughout her roles as Oedipus’ mother and then his wife. With the arrival of the prophecy that her and Laios’ son is destined to kill his own father and marry his own mother, Jocasta had to leave her child to essentially die in order to evade the prophecy. A mother’s first instinct is typically to protect her child at all costs; however, Jocasta goes against this by actually putting her child in danger in order to protect her husband. This instance proves that the husband seems to be the main focus. Every action seems to be to p...
...is sweet. But when there is sorrow and bitterness he finds refuge in his motherland. Your mother is there to protect you. And that is why we say that Mother is Supreme"(pg.116).
Throughout my life my mom has always been selfless and generous- especially when it came to her children and grandchildren… ever putting her self last! SHE WAS MY EVERYTHING… Unlike my sister, I was the one that gave my parents their grey hair… It took me longer than most to mature, and the truth is- that’s putting it mildly. Yet through all the ups and downs, and all the times I would end up disappointing her expectations of me, one thing NEVER
As tensions rise and questions are asked, Jocasta is quick to realize that the prophecy did in fact come true, her son did committed murder against his father and incest with her, but she is even quicker to turn a blind eye, and beg Oedipus not to pry for the truth. While she does love Oedipus romantically, her maternal love for him subconsciously breaks through when she aims to protect him from the truth, therefore allowing herself to live with the guilt rather than he. But of course, because every tragedy needs a heart-string-tugging fall, after Oedipus learns the truth about himself and the effects of his actions, it is Jocasta who cannot live with it. With her bed sheets tied around her neck, symbolizing her choking by the hands of maternity and incest, Jocasta commits suicide.
She also was on the school board at my grade school, was politically active, and was active in our church. Seeing her stand up to error in public situations gave me the strength to do the same. Sadly, I had to fight error in my high school history class. I disputed my religion teacher's position concerning the civil rights movement (just one of many discussions we had that year). But without Mom's example, I would have been silent like the other kids.
Even before my first tear hits the ground, my mother is there to wipe it away. My mother feels my pain before I can even realize it. She understands my needs before I can even think of them. That’s why we call her a mother. My mother has been an extraordinary influence on my life and always will be. She’s the kind of mom who would always take time out and care for her four children and the mom who would never let her hardships in her life distress her kids. My mother has always been a very strong role model to me, and growing up with someone like her to look up to has changed my life in many ways. She has helped me grow physically, intellectually, and considerately. She taught me to always love, care, and give back to the people I am grateful for.
Women are blessed with what I consider is the biggest gift in the universe and that is to give life to what once was part of them. At some point in our lives we ask ourselves……. What is a good mother? Although there can be endless definitions, my definition of a good mother is based on what I consider to be morally right. A good mother always thinks about her children first, a good mother is always willing to give her life for her children, a good mother is soft and gentle with her children, but a good mother becomes aggressive and protective when her children are exposed to potential threats and a good mother will always want the best for her children.
When I needed to talk, she listened. When I was ill, she healed me. When I was hungry, she fed me. This frail woman whom I call my mom was a superwoman while I was growing up. With wisdom, she guided; with tenderness, she spoke; and with love, she raised me. Although we were very poor, my mother made it a point always to give me a present on my birthday.
My mother was not only worry and take care of me, she always by my side when I need her help. I felt sad, my mother always by my side to talk and to console. While I am glad, my mother is always been there to share and listen to me. When I failed to do something, my mother who was gave me advices. She has always supported me in all my choices. She tried to make me strong people with independent minds. I looks to her in hopes that someday I will be as happy, as strong and as well as
Many people, as well as myself, believe that a mother’s influence is one of the most important influences that one will ever come in contact with in their lives. A mother’s love, comfort, and support will often help to shape a child and allow them to become the person they need to be later on in life. My mother has had a great influence on my life from day one. I often refer to her as my “rock” because she is definitely a solid foundation in my life. Being that she is a great role model, my mother’s support and presence in my life has allowed me to grow as a person, keep my spirits high through hell and high water, prosper in all that I have done, as well as mold me to be a great person in the future.
