Technology has become a part of our daily lives – providing us with entertainment, ways to communicate, and an abundance of information. The use of technology has greatly affected our lives by making the things we do somewhat easier. Schools have surely begun to acknowledge the pros of electronic materials in the classroom, but before incorporating the use of technology in classrooms, schools should assess the cost of learning materials and positive impacts on student performance and classroom interaction.
There are many important factors schools should consider before using information technologies in curriculum and instruction, and the cost of learning resources should be one of them. The use of technology in classrooms allows students to gain more information that lets them respond to questions easily while being able to post assignments and have discussions with each other online (Source B). In the classroom, the teacher and their students are able to interact with each other more through the use of information devices. The teacher presents and demonstrates these gadgets, which the students use as supplements in scientific experiments or other class assignments. Even when they are not in the classroom, the class is able to communicate through online websites, blogs, and forums that the teacher creates (or not) and shows to them, teaching them how they can communicate with each other on certain assignments when they are not in school. Being able to see what your classmates submit online (such as Edmodo) can help you and your peers complete or improve on the work assigned, and having discussions online and in class can aid in keeping yourself and your class

Almost everyone attends a school at one time in their life, whether the classroom includes technology or not. Research shows that technology isn’t used as often as one might think. The article, “High Access and Low Use of Technology in High School Classrooms” illustrates the use of technology by stating that only one in ten elementary and middle school teachers are daily users of computers (Cuban, Kirkpatrick, Peck). Most schools now have classrooms that use technology throughout the entire class time and even at home to do homework. Although some people might agree with the use of technology in class, it is more harmful to the students than useful.

Teachers and principals think switching to e-books will be a major step in modernizing the city's schools (Lowinger 2). E-books are an online version of a normal standard textbook. Some schools are switching to e-books because the world is becoming more involved with technology. Technology is becoming more and more advanced these days. Adults think it is important to teach teenagers how to work with the new technology (Springen 2). Technology has come a long way since textbooks came out. Textbooks have developed throughout the years and now they are able to be on electronic devices. Reading e-books does not have to be at a computer. Almost all devices used for school can have online books downloaded on them. People can read e-books on small devices like an Ipad or a kindle. It just depends on what device it is downloaded on (“What…” 1). Students can download their online textbooks on any device they want as long as the device supports the e-book being downloaded. While some teachers think online books will help students learn better, other teachers think students will get distracted with e-books. Schools should transfer to e-books because they cost less, students do not have to carry as much weight, and they have more features.
Additionally, teachers are creating "writing assignments online" that students post to, "passing out PDAs to use in scientific experiments", and allowing students to "practice foreign languages in electronic forums" (Source B). While all these new gadgets may be appealing to faulty, parents, and students, it is necessary to look at what affects this new technology will have on human interaction. By creating online assignments for students to post and comment on only hinders on the classroom discussion and may eventually cause these discussions to completely disappear. Paper has officially been replaced with iPads. Just kidding, but there are over 1.5 million iPads that are being used in classrooms by students on a daily bases rather than using printed textbooks as main learning resources (Graduating With Technology). With recent advancements in technology, many school districts have turned the focus off traditional learning methods of using textbooks, and are now focusing on integrating the use of tablets and computers as the main means of learning for students. Technology is going to continue to advance throughout this digital age and is going to gain popularity within education, but there are questions arising of how effective technology is when used in the classroom. While the method was adequate, it had limited scope and was not the richest of learning environments. The advent of the modern Internet and rapid proliferation of technology from the mid 1990s onward offered increasingly more opportunities for technology application to learning.
