To create a that service that appeals to baby boomers, 50 years or older, you need to look at what their needs are. The select demographic that is being targeted are those that are not-yet-retired, earning at least $100,000 in professional or high-level corporate careers and work an average of 60 to 80 hours per week. This select group likes to look good, be social and stay healthy. Time is also a big issue for them. In other words, what can I offer this demographic that would hit all the key points above and would make them want to pay me money. An idea that would suffice the majority of the ideas above is a traveling beauty salon and barber shop. It becomes much less of an inconvenience to the busy baby boomers by creating a service that …show more content…
This is because you would not be paying bills on things like utilities and rent. It would also prove to be less expensive due to less amount of equipment being needed. Every stylist would be equipped with their own tools. However, we may not need to purchase any styling chairs, because we would be utilizing the chairs already inside the baby boomer clients home. However, there would be some expenses that you would not have if you were not traveling from client to client. For example, the extra expense of gas needed to get to and from each baby boomer's house would not exist if you were in one single location or shop. There will also be the cost of a vehicle for the stylist to drive and the possible cost of detailing it with a promotion for the company. This idea of a traveling salon and barber shop is a part of the service industry. Since, the service industry totals to about 48% of all the small businesses, so it is important to make your business stand apart and to promote it. Promotion is a large source of customers, if done correctly. It allows the public and community to become familiar with your …show more content…

The health care industry is positioned for the global market place. It is expected to grow exponentially in health-related services for the elderly. China’s population of individuals over sixty years old is expected to grow to one third in the next twenty-five years. Though their culture view aging somewhat differently than in United States, they are interested in the attractive senior living options established here. Senior care encompasses private care facilities, home health care, products, drugs and medical equipment. As the largest health care market in the world American companies have made significant global inroads over the last two decades. These businesses are positioned to offer additional services directed at retirees, and children who will be responsible for their parents and potentially their grandparents as well.

As might be expected, the millennial generations as a whole are passionate about the technological and communication advances in the past decade with the internet and social media. “A new Pew Internet Project report reveals that 93% of young adult’s ages 18‐29 are online” (Andrew January 14 to 27, 2010). This allows access for marketer’s access to the generation in a different way than previous generations.
The current state of the workforce is that millennials are now entering the workplace in record numbers. This creates a dilemma because the Baby Boomers are not necessarily retiring at the given time. The baby Boomers is not concerned with retirement at age 65. In fact, age 85 is the new 65. The result is that 60-year-olds are working alongside 20-yearolds and because the difference in their formative experiences, this have led to generational misconceptions and have help to create tension and hostility within the workforce.
It is a little known fact that small businesses make up a major factor of the American workforce. Since the word small is in the title most people think nothing of them, but when one takes the time to think that there are millions of small businesses, most with at least two to ten workers, the amount of people begins to add up. There are many factors that could contribute to a business failing, and it happens all the time in America. Small businesses must have solid business plans, a good use of technology, appealing merchandise, and appropriate financing to survive and prosper in the economy.
Baby Boomers are the most powerful demographic group in history. Businesses thrives or fails based on their ability to keep pace with the likes and dislikes of this economic powerhouse known as the baby boomers. At 76 million strong, boomers have the influence to rule the marketplace and make sure they keep a place set just for them as the
After diving into result after result of internet searches for advertisements aimed at older people, I came to a stern realization; overall, there are very few. But, I found a few magazine and television advertisements that really spoke volumes about the notion of aging and older adults. Some of these advertisements viewed aging positively; showing that even at an older age people can be active and viewed quite popularly by public media. Unfortunately, other advertisements played on the negative stereotypes of aging and older adults, specifically with the notion that as you age you are unable to fully take care of yourself.
This strategy aims to employ workers from different backgrounds to provide tangible and intangible benefits for the business. The employers are the ones who control everything from the wage, promotions, incentives and the termination of the older counterparts. They are increasingly concerned about updated skills, physical demands, early retirement, and the cost of maintaining an older worker. Despite how employers may feel, companies cannot afford to neglect talent at any age. The employer should take advantage of the skills that the older employee posses, and carefully position them in jobs that matches their skill level as well as the job to be done. “Regardless of the change organizations make in the structure and functioning of the workplace of the future, it appears likely that older workers will play a crucial role (Hedge,Borman,& Lammlein, 2006). Different acts and laws are governed to respond to any discrimination against older employees in the workforce. Employment agencies, labor unions, local, state and Federal government are bound by these laws such as: Older Workers Benefits Protection Act (OWBPA); The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Older Americans Act (OAA), to name a few. Funds for service by the Congress are provided in forms of grants for various programs yearly. States, counties, and cities recognize the value of the servicing and are generous in providing additional funds, benefits and in-kind economic benefits too. Because area and state agencies on aging are doing very little in a way to use mass media to promote themselves, the aging network is probably missing a large number of disadvantage people who should be receiving services but who are unaware of them. Much more emphasis has been placed on tying together the federal services for the older workers, but it should not have taken a federal initiative to make states see
The reason I chose to work on senior citizen issue, because my grandmother is living by herself on social security benefit. While I was talking with her, I found she doesn’t need only money to live, but she needs help on house keeping issues like maintenance, and especially a need of someone who visits her once a while. If my grandmother felt this way, I guess there are many seniors in Atlanta, who might share the same feelings. There are many organizations currently active in and around metro Atlanta to look after seniors, but success is a little. There is a constant need of volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts in helping seniors, doing maintenance work, and delivering foods on festivals like Thanksgiving and Christmas as we...
Unfortunately, many small businesses fail or do not reach their full potential because the small business owner spends too much time working in the business, and too little time working on the business.
Robbins (2013) recognizes that baby boomers have an enormous hard-working attitude with a definitive want to characterize themselves through their expert achievements. Baby Boomers, born between 1946 and 1964 value their achievement, ambition, loyalty to career and dislike to authority in competitive workplace (Robbins and Judge, 2017). Gen Xers, born between 1965 and 1977, who are independent-minded like work-life balance, team-oriented, loyalty to relationship and dislike of rules. The generation born between 1978 and later, known as Millennials value flexible hours, teamwork and collaborative culture, career development, loyalty to both self and relationships with employers and dislike the formality of regular meetings if there
There are many social problems plaguing the world, including the issue of aging inequality and elders. This social problem is significant because the baby boomers of the 1946-64s are now starting to be the youngest old. Our society is starting to, and needs to, change to accommodate the needs of the elderly. There are many different problems coming with this making people have many political viewpoints, theoretical perspectives, and solutions for this social problem. Baby boomers are a group of people that were born between the years of 1946 and 1964. Just nine months after WW II ended people were having babies at rates higher than ever before. In the year 1946 there were 3.4 million babies were born, nearly 20% more than the prior year. This
The majority of these employees at Vita Needle are of an older age, well over the retirement age of sixty or so, and are thus excluded from almost every other employment opportunity. These older individuals and their employers created this community partly in response to the isolation that they face from other individuals and employers. “The Vita Needle story illustrates the importance of mattering and membership for older adults in the United States, where older adults often feel socially marginalized and even invisible,” (Lynch, 2013: 188). These individuals have come together and have formed a community based on these shared experiences. The employers of Vita Needle also come together to make this community feel welcome. “The owners and managers are attuned to the age-related social, health, and economic needs of the workforce, and the company accommodates this workforce in various ways,” (Lynch, 2013: 190). This enhances their sense of self-worth, as many individuals feel as if they must be contributing to society in some way to be important. This could be partly due to the age cohort that they belong
