Leadership Paper for Week Seven Effective supervisory techniques can be completely different from others. It depends on the supervisor and what their skills are that gives them the ability to get employees to do what needs to get done with enthusiasm. When a supervisor takes an action, it involves decision-making to arrive at an effective choice to get the desired result that they want. For every good decision, there is a good reaction and for every bad choice, there is a bad reaction. Techniques Michael Scott, (Steve Carell) plays the regional manager on “The Office”. Michael is the perfect example of what not to be if one strives to be a good supervisor (2017). It was very hard to find a good trait in Michael, he does a great job in his part in the TV series. However, after long and hard brainstorming, one good technique he does possess is that he does hold meetings regularly to try and train the employees. Then he brings Jim out of his office and tells everyone about Jim’s promotion. Which was the right thing to do. However, Michael had been telling Dwight that he was getting the promotion knowing that he wasn’t all along. This is where if the writer was the supervisor it would have been handled different, right from the beginning Dwight should not have been informed he was getting the promotion if he wasn’t. As a good supervisor never tells their employee promises that can’t or don’t intend on keeping. As this causes bad morals in the workplace and could cause someone to possibly get hurt physically and emotionally. Also, if something did come up that Dwight wasn’t going to be promoted then he should have been called in and advised that the company had decided that Jim was a better fit.
