Rohan Chavan Rhetorical Analysis Essay. The Super Bowl is the most watched telecast event in the United States, and many major companies and organizations market their products or services by airing advertisements during the event. Companies often utilize creativity, logic, and emotion to attract viewers. One of the most memorable Super Bowl advertisements in recent memory was the Google “Loretta” Commerical which was produced and aired during the 2020 Super Bowl. This advertisement is intended to market Google’s new product at the time, the Google Assistant. The advertisement is a short story given from the perspective of an 85-year-old man who wishes to cherish memories of his wife as she is no longer with him. In the commercial itself, Google demonstrates a very specific use of its new technology to appeal to the viewer’s logic. The advertisement demonstrates Google Assistant’s memorization and search abilities through the real-life story of the old man. The use of a real-world application and example by Google is not only able to prove to the audience the capabilities of their new technology, but it also leaves viewers wondering what the other practical applications of the product are, and how it could benefit their own lives. The overall tone of the advertisement appeals to the viewer’s sense of emotion by evoking feelings of sadness, nostalgia, sentimentality, love, family connections, and mourning. The heartbreaking and tearful story touches the viewers' hearts, demands their compassion and empathy, and leads them to resonate with the old man in the narrative.
