Ridgeline Mountain Outfitters has been in business since the late 1980’s and currently operates a combination of brick and mortar retail stores, catalogs, and online sales. Over the lifespan of the company, RMO has implemented a complex set of information systems applications to support operations and management. Unfortunately, due to growth and technology antiquation, these systems are no longer keeping up with customer expectations and there is a gap between the existing capabilities in RMO systems that support sales and customer interactions. Supply chain management (SCM) and customer support systems (CSS) are the two system areas that need to be enriched. SCM is the highest priority and will need to be developed first to ensure that the
supply chain is efficient so that the CSS can then progress the SCM. Most of RMO’s consumers are generally located in the western region of the United States and Canada. Due to remarkable growth in outdoor sports and recreation activities, the market for winter and summer sports clothing and accessories has become a very lucrative opportunity, therefore RMO needs to update their systems and strategy to capitalize on the present market opportunity and expand geographically. As previously discussed, the existing customer base, and consequently most of RMO’s sales are in the western part of the United States. In recent months, there has been significant growth in markets in the Eastern United States and in Canada. This growth has been attributed to the online sales and service that RMO has been providing. In addition to sourcing products from suppliers and vendors, RMO also has their own branded line of outdoor clothing and sportswear. The sales figures for last year are as follows: Point of Sale Sales Percentage of Total Sales Brick and Mortar $67 million 24% Catalog $10 million 3.7% Online $200 million 72.3% (Satzinger, Jackson & Burd, 2016). With the properly planned Consolidated Sales and Marketing System, RMO expects to migrate from selling their products in small retail shops located in Park City, Utah to enabling their products to be available throughout North America through various sales mechanisms. To increase the company’s revenue, RMO intends to implement the CSMS to efficiently manage the new sales streams and augmented customer base. Historically, RMO has been open to and adopted new technologies as needed through technology approaches such as employing small servers, desktop computers, and web based technologies. RMO’s previous technology adoption strategy bodes well for the feasibility for the implementation of a greatly-needed, modernized CSMS system. Generally, the final phases of a large scale project such as this are the most time consuming, must be carefully planned to consider any risks associated with deploying a new system and to determine whether the project will reach a success or failure outcome. Bill Bryson uses his experience on the Appalachian Trail to show how different your expectations can be compared to the reality of the situation. Bryson believed that he was fully prepared for the hike and that it would be exciting but, in all actuality it was very difficult. He also believed that the hike would be stimulating for the mind but, at times it didn’t require a lot of thinking or attention. His experience and the background research he provided created an image for his audience so they could understand the point he was trying to make. These elements served as evidence in the book and was very effective because it was abundant and meaningful.
Is Bill Bryson, the author of a Walk in the Woods, an Appalachian Trail hiker? To most people, the only type of AT hiker is someone who hikes it all at once, also known as a “thru hiker.” Bryson has hiked a large amount of the AT, along with Katz, and has come across many obstacles along the way. He has encountered a bear, obnoxious hikers, and especially harsh weather conditions. None of these hurdles have seemed to stop Bryson. They have reduced his progress but have not stopped him completely by any means. Critics have expressed their irritation with Bryson and his negativity towards all of the impediments on the trail. For example, one critic said, “As a hiker laying in a strategy to thru-hike the AT in a couple years, I was looking forward to a light and lively tale. Boy was I disappointed. Grumping about the cold, rain, mud, vermin, tourons, monotony, ugly people and places, and an inept hiking partner didn't let up.” (Anonymous: A Protracted Whine. Book review of A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. November 2, 2007) Although many tough critics do not consider him to be an AT trail hiker, he should be considered an AT hiker because he has hiked most of the trail and has written a best-selling novel to inform people of his long, vigorous journey.
After closely examining this case, I have decided that it would be in the company's best interest to go forward with the lines extension of the existing boots for mountaineers and hikers. This option seems to yield a higher return in profits than the other alternative.
Compromise of 1877 African-Americans may sometimes wonder at the contradictory facts about their history presented in many standard history texts. These texts state that blacks were given the right to vote in 1870, yet the same texts will acknowledge that this right did not really exist for African-Americans until the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Similarly, the first public accommodation law was passed in 1875, but history shows that it took 91 years before it was acknowledged and African-Americans were allowed to the full benefits of citizenship. It is common knowledge that the American Civil War provided freedom and certain civil rights, including the right to vote, to the African-American population of the nineteenth-century. What is not generally known, and only very rarely acknowledged, is that after freeing the slaves held in the Southeastern portion of the U.S., the federal government abandoned these same African-Americans at the end of the Reconstruction period.
Wal-Mart began operations in 1964 and has since become the world leader in retail. Walmart began with goals to provide consumers with goods when and where they wanted them (Frank, n. d). Walmart developed cost structures to allow its company to offer consumers everyday low pricing. Walmart’s corporate mission focuses on a global growth strategy through concentrated integration. Wal-Mart's supply chain management supports a fast and responsive logistics system. In this paper, I will converse about the history of Walmart, and its supply chain management

The furniture company Somerset needs to retain its customer service record and remedy any of its global supply chain issues before it has an adverse effect on the brand and start losing customers. It is undeniable that Inventory Management is an important key to success at Walmart. This paper will discuss the two main methods of Inventory Management used by Wal-Mart: Material Requirements Planning and Just-in Time. Next we write about the technical means of keeping track of inventories, like RFID tags. We conclude by discussing how Wal-Mart, one of the world’s largest retailers, manages its inventories. Material Requirements Planning (MRP) Walmart needs to make sure that consumers are satisfied all the time, not only with the quality of service being provided to them, but with the quality of the product they are planning.
Today, beverage industry has very high competition in global market. Marketing and brand position may be the first thing which a company probably thinks that they are the most important but the fact is supply chain management (SCM) can strongly indicate the company successful as well. Effective SCM is the most favorable key in the market strategy because SCM drives every activity of a firm to the end customer. Without effective SCM, company will probably be eliminated, Bommer and O’Neil (2001, pp11-12). In the last decade, Enterprise resource planning (ERP) deserves as a key of supply chain achievement and it is the reason that many beverage manufacturers try to replace their old style supply chain management with a brand new ERP system to outperform their competitors. The report will mainly discuss about case study of Red bull China and several beverage manufacturers.
Over the past couple of years, Walmart has boosted its e-commerce operations and bringing in a large portion of revenues from online sales (Aronow & Burkett, 2015, p. 20). Gartner Inc. describes Walmart as a “supply chain pioneer” that has continued its push into e-commerce and has expanded investment in multichannel drive-thru pick-up centers and a ‘click-and-collect’ grocery service offered at some of its stores (Aronow & Burkett, 2015, p. 20). One of the components of Walmart’s supply chain in which their success is heavily relied on is the continuous improvement of their supply management as a whole, particularly within their e-commerce division. According to an article on the website logistics company Cerasis, “Not only has Walmart excelled over the decades in traditional supply chain management but… is also focused on continuous improvement by investing more into emerging technologies to capture more of the e-commerce market…” (University of San Francisco, 2015). A concept that our class had discussed time and time again throughout the semester was the concept of continuous improvement. Any given organization or business is constantly focused on continuously improving their business for the better. For Walmart, they believe that the anticipatory action of investing in emerging technologies will help differentiate themselves from the competition
