Stephen Paddock Motive There is little information right now, even still, after the mass shooting in Las Vegas. An older man named Stephen Paddock fired into a large crowd of people attending a country music concert on October 1, 2017. 58 people enjoying a concert on a Sunday evening lost their lives and hundreds more were injured. Nearly a month later and authorities are still at a loss when it comes to finding Stephen Paddock’s motive for this mass shooting. However, there are many theories circulating. I personally feel Stephen Paddock was an isolated man who had a warped view on the community, and one day decided something needed to change and he was going to plan a way to do it. With no known political or religious affiliation one can rule out any political or religious motives. With the meticulous planning and months of thought, weapon buying, and scouting one can rule out a spontaneous gambling loss. With a loving girlfriend one can rule out the “cheating spouse” motive. The only thing that makes sense to me personally is that Stephen Paddock was an isolated man who saw the world changing around him and did not like those changes. With the President of the United States changing health care policies, changing taxation laws, with the up rise of blatant racism, protests in the streets, maybe Paddock saw a large shooting as a way to gain attention on problems in society at hand. Maybe Stephen Paddock took to shooting into a large crowd of people because he could not see an out to the problems at hand and he was frustrated and took advantage of a large venue with thousands of people to take his stand. He sent his girlfriend away so she would not interfere or be injured in any possible way. He kept his plan quiet and under wraps so no one in his immediate circle of friends and family would be threatened by his plan. After spending his whole life isolated from others, and living in his father’s shadow, maybe this was the only out he saw to change the world, even if it only changed
