Love Bade Me Welcome (Reflection)
In Love Bade Me Welcome is about God, faith, love, and death. This short essay talks about our life and how we change our outlook on life when we have a near death experience. That we started feeling God’s absence and his love for us. We do not think about what going happen with us, but imagine how our lives are going to be. We do not think about death and how it is going to affect other people in our life. When we do find out that we are dying, then we do not mourn our life, but the life we want. We want to be close to God, but we do not know how to be close to him.
We try everything to get close. Christian Wiman wrote this short essay about how he got close to God and how to love God and his wife. This essay make us see how to examine our own lives and how to true wisdom when God is absent in our life or when we want to come

Christian Wiman is a poet and did not attend church in twenty years. He was diagnosed with an incurable form of blood cancer. He talked about pity of life from tragedy. “That we cannot truly have this knowledge of life, can only feel it is some sort of abstract “wisdom”, until we come very close to death ” (pg 161, line 13-14). Christian talks about when you find out that you have incurable cancer or something, you do not mourn for your death but the death of the life you think of having.
People say that they see their life flash before then, when a close death happens to them. Christian wrote that his life was a movie that he was watching it instead of living his life. When he could not write poems. Christen talked about how we put walls up and it separates us from God. When we put a wall up, then all we can do is listen for what God want us to do in our lives. Death is something everyone is familiar with and at the same time very much afraid of. It is no different when it comes to the character in Everyman. When God is observing the people walking on earth, he sees how they are only serving themselves and not serving him. People are living as if there is no Heaven or Hell, or if there is even a judgment day after they die. Yet they try and are even content living out their own lives, depending on all the riches the world has to give, giving no thought to death. Like the writer of Hebrews said, “And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment” (Heb 9:27) so it is with Everyman. Everyman is like people today, living like there is no tomorrow, not thinking about the judgment that all of every man will face when death comes knocking at their door. God sees everything getting worse, year after year and decides to “Have a reckoning of every man’s person;” (45).
Fear of the unknown, and fear of what is to come in our lives, has generations of people wondering what will our lives be like tomorrow or the next day. Death is always there and we cannot escape it. Death is a scary thing. Our own mortality or the mortality of our loved ones scares us to the point that we sometimes cannot control how we are dealing with such a thing as the thought of death. Why do we fear such a thing as death? We don’t know what happens after we don’t how it feels. The fear of death is different for most but it is most certain to come and we cannot hide from it. When involved with a near death experience humans will use any and all survival instincts, they know in order to prevent their death with all their might. The closer to death someone may come would mean the more they 'll strive to stay alive because ultimately no one wants to die, even if that means killing another person in order to do so. Although many people would deny this claim, I find this to be very true in my opinion because if you 're put into a situation where it’s either you have to die versus someone else dying; you obviously wouldn 't want to be the person who dies. Death is part of the circle of life and it's the end of your time on earth; the end of your time with your family and loved ones. Nobody wants to die, leaving their family and missing the good times your loved ones will have once you pass on. In the Mercury Reader, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross “On the Fear of Death” and Joan Didion “Afterlife” from The Year of Magical Thinking” both share common theses on death and grieving. Didion and Kübler-Ross both explain grieving and dealing with death. Steve Jobs commencement speech for Stanford’s graduation ceremony and through personal experience jumps further into death and how I feel about it. Your time is on earth is limited one day you will die and there are many ways of grieving at the death of a loved one. I believe that the fear of death and the death of a loved one will hold you back from living your own life and the fear of your own death is selfish.
The human experience is what connects people to one another. What we experience defines who we are and who we become. It also defines how we interact with others. The amazing thing is that not only do the events that bring joy, peace and happiness connect us but also those that bring anxiety, fear and despair. This brings to light the fact that God somehow in his sovereignty uses all things for the good of those who love Him. These ideas are brought to light in Jerry Sittser’s book, A Grace Disguised which is his personal journey of loss and the insight and experience that was gained in the face of great tragedy. In his book, Sittser discusses various insights he has gained, such as how Christian’s view sorrow, how families recover when someone they love develops a mental disorder, and the Christian view on suffering and forgiveness. I believe that the author has written a book that has many universal truths that can be applied to anyone’s life and they have the ability to bring healing to many. His ideas can also aid professionals who work with the mentally ill in becoming more compassionate.
It is difficult to understand how they might see where they will be when they die. I look forward to being in heaven after I live and complete my life. I could not imagine dying and not having any kind of afterlife. I know that one day when I die I will see all the people that died who I love and dearly miss. I had a best friend die and I cannot wait to be with him after I die.
Life is not merely something that we experience outwardly. It can be an awakening to imagination, emotion, and true virtue. As we experience feelings in the way Puddleglum lived, believing in something so profound and so realistic that no apathy or emptiness could ever dissuade him, we can learn to live a life worth continuing. In the Bible, Paul spoke of death in 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 saying, “So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. (ESV)”
There once was a man who dreamed he was at the end of his life. He saw his life as if it were a walk along a beach with Jesus. As he looked back over his life he saw two sets of footprints in the sand along most of the way -- one set belonging to him, the other to Jesus. He noticed, though, that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints in the sand. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
