Love Bade Me Welcome (Reflection)

In Love Bade Me Welcome is about God, faith, love, and death. This short essay talks about our life and how we change our outlook on life when we have a near death experience. That we started feeling God’s absence and his love for us. We do not think about what going happen with us, but imagine how our lives are going to be. We do not think about death and how it is going to affect other people in our life. When we do find out that we are dying, then we do not mourn our life, but the life we want. We want to be close to God, but we do not know how to be close to him.

Christian Wiman is a poet and did not attend church in twenty years. He was diagnosed with an incurable form of blood cancer. He talked about pity of life from tragedy. “That we cannot truly have this knowledge of life, can only feel it is some sort of abstract “wisdom”, until we come very close to death ” (pg 161, line 13-14). Christian talks about when you find out that you have incurable cancer or something, you do not mourn for your death but the death of the life you think of having.
People say that they see their life flash before then, when a close death happens to them. Christian wrote that his life was a movie that he was watching it instead of living his life. When he could not write poems. Christen talked about how we put walls up and it separates us from God. When we put a wall up, then all we can do is listen for what God want us to do in our lives.
