The Godfather Death is a story about choice and perception, how a man view the powers of the world, whether they were good, bad, or considered to be neutral.
The story began with a poor man who had 12 children, and had to work day and night to feed them. The opening passage begins off with the man who couldn't manage the cost of the 12 youngsters that he had, yet he had another child that he did not even have a name for. There’s no mention of the mother in the story, so I would like to believe she died in childbirth. In this story the man must’ve been desperately in search of someone to him care of his kids, because he ran out on the highway looking for someone to be his child’s godfather. Traditionally, godparents of those who help out with the child as far as providing things that they might need.
The first person to approach him on the street was God, “God told the man that he had pity for him. God also told him that he would hold his child in baptism, care for him and make him happy on earth. At this point the man chose to abandon God’s love and affection, because he believed God give to the rich and let the poor starve. In this portion of the story, the man had a

When we think of Death, we don’t see good or bad. In some cases, when Death comes along and take your love one, he leaves you in a lot of pain and for a lot of people they have a lot of regrets for the things that they didn’t do why that person was living. On the other hand, when Death comes in and take a family member or a loved one away, it can be a blessing, because that person was suffering and you feel that God has let that person suffered long enough and that he’s now ready to taking him or her
“A&P” and “Godfather Death” are stories that fall under two different categories in reading. While “A&P” is a short story and “Godfather Death” is a folktale, it is clear that there are differences between the two stories. Despite their differences, there are some similarities shown through the protagonists of each story. Sammy, the protagonist of “A&P”, is an all-around character who is close to his family but makes poor decisions. The godson, the protagonist of “Godfather Death”, is also an all-around character and loves his job but takes advantage of his godfather, Death. Although Sammy and the godson are the protagonist in each story, they have differences regarding their work ethic and heroism, but they also share a few similar personalities.
We do not think about death and how it is going to affect other people in our life. When we do find out that we are dying, then we do not mourn our life, but the life we want. We want to be close to God, but we do not know how to be close to him. We try everything to get close.
When it comes to death, everyone has a different perspective about it. One might think death is just a beginning, a key to open the door to the afterlife. A release, a way out to a different world. Others might think that death is simply a lesson of life. It teaches one not to waste his or her time but live to enjoy it, while it still last. Live and do whatever one desire before time runs out. Surely, death has many different purposes and meanings. In the short story “Bullet in the Brain” by Tobias Wolff. He uses death as a flashback and a final thought to show the reader the character’s life in the story. In the “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce, he uses death to teach the reader that one should stand up and protect the
The Godfather and Romeo & Juliet are complex texts which the readers of them barely see pass their superficial meanings. The Godfather on the surface is about the mafia underworld in the Italian American underworld, however underneath the facade it is also a fantastical tale of many types of honour. Romeo and Juliet is superficially a tale of two lovers whose families are torn apart by hatred for one another, but it too is a tale of honour. The four main types of honour in these texts are family, enemy, female and community honour. 95
Does family matter? Yes- family always matters. It is necessary to have some sort of family structure in order to have a stable foundation. This need for stability and structure is how the family survives and the children find safety. In the movies The Godfather and Scarface we will discover how the two differ when it comes to family and family business. These two patriarchs have different views on family and how the family is involved in the business. In this discovery one struggles to gain and maintain power- but looses everything in the process. While the other maintains the family through peace negotiations and understanding business and revenge can not always go hand and hand in order for the family to survive.
...fortune, although the person as a subject does not survive his or her death. If he or she had not died, he or she would have continued living and this is further explained by Nagel when he states, “He has lost his life, and if he had not died, he would have continued to live it, and to possess whatever good there is in living” (Nagel, 772). A further reply could be whether the death of a subject is always a misfortune or if it is contingent on the personal or impersonal point of view. Many people celebrate the life of the subject, for what they had accomplished during the number of years that they had lived and do not see death as a misfortune.
There are frequently tales of heroic outlaws who perform deeds for the weak and battle with the corrupt and against injustice in human history. One of these heroic outlaws is Vito Corleone from The Godfather. Similar to Robin Hood and his stories of “taking from the rich and giving to the poor” which made Robin into a hero to many readers, Vito did the same in the book by Mario Puzo albeit by more force. Vito Corleone was ruthless but he did it for family. A family is a basic social unit consisting of parents and their children, and is considered a group, whether they reside together or not. (Dictionary.com Unabridged. Random House, Inc.) At its core, The Godfather is a study of how the ebbs and flow of power change Vito’s family and how he struggles to maintain power to maintain family. The Corleone family lives in the midst of the crime and violence. Some of the family members take the law into their own hands, by protecting the weak by avenging crime while others may use it to their advantage to position themselves higher within the family for more wealth and power. The Godfather gives help to all those who have proven their loyalties as a “Robin Hood” of the Sicilian people. He is more than willing to lend a helping hand to those who need it as long as they call them his friend; he has the confidence that “Friendship is everything. Friendship is more than talent. It is more than government. It is almost the equal of family” (Puzo 38)
I believe the reason that, 'The Godfather', is such a great film is because it lets audiences decide whether they like the characters or not. Too many movies made about organized crime begin with some seemingly random act of violence. 'The Godfather', however, lets it be known from the start to judge the characters in the film based on what type of person they are instead of the criminal activities they may engage in.
The Godfather is the “dark-side of the American dream story” (Turan, pp2). The film follows the practices of a fictional Italian mafia family, the Corleone’s. Though most Americans do not condone the practices of the Italian mafia, they cannot deny that Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather is a cinematic masterpiece. This film gave insight to a mysterious way of life that the average person does not have knowledge of. As the audience is educated about the mafia they also are introduced to many stereotypes.
People have many different dreams, and many different ingredients for happiness. Some people relay on love, others lean towards money, it may be achieved through money, relationships, or even the misfortune of others, but why does power have the persuasion to change a person and what drives them to gain more?
Death is part of the circle of life and it's the end of your time on earth; the end of your time with your family and loved ones. Nobody wants to die, leaving their family and missing the good times your loved ones will have once you pass on. In the Mercury Reader, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross “On the Fear of Death” and Joan Didion “Afterlife” from The Year of Magical Thinking” both share common theses on death and grieving. Didion and Kübler-Ross both explain grieving and dealing with death. Steve Jobs commencement speech for Stanford’s graduation ceremony and through personal experience jumps further into death and how I feel about it. Your time is on earth is limited one day you will die and there are many ways of grieving at the death of a loved one. I believe that the fear of death and the death of a loved one will hold you back from living your own life and the fear of your own death is selfish.
The Godfather is most notably one of the most prolific films of its time. This "gangster" film displayed many transformations of permeating color to give the viewer observable cues in its mise en scene that drew one right into the movie. The dramatic acting set the tone of the film with a score that lifted the viewer right out of their seat in many scenes. The directing and cinematography made The Godfather ahead of its time. The nostalgic feel of family importance and the danger of revenge lets us into the life of the Mafia. Even though no other techniques would have given the viewer a feeling of inside the mob like the mise en scene of the power the godfather held, the characters are reinforced literally and figuratively because the story views the Mafia from the inside out, and the cinematography of the film gives it a dangerous and nostalgic feel.
Death is one of the only true constants in the universe and is the only guarantee in life. Everyone knows of death and everyone will experience it, but to the living death is still one of life's greatest mysteries. In some cultures death is celebrated and embraced, while in others it is feared. However it is perceived, death holds different meanings for different people. Through the art of poetry a writer can give a reader many different outlooks and maybe a better understanding of life and death.
