While reading “A Rupee Earned”, by If Bulatkin, the narrator makes it evident that not everything in life comes effortlessly, and that sometimes you need to put in the work to gain the results you want. Too often in life we attempt to find shortcuts to resolve our problems, but it doesn’t always work out because we cannot cheat our way through life.
The story begins with an ill father telling his son that if he cannot earn one rupee, he will not inherit his riches once he passes. The son didn’t care to work so he found a shortcut to gain the money. His mother gave him a rupee and told him to pretend he was coming home from work and lie to his father about earning it. The father didn’t believe he earned the money so he threw it into the fireplace
and said “you did not earn that rupee” (pg.1), but the son was not concerned about what his father believed and went off to bed. The process repeated a countless amount of times until the son realized that he could not avoid work, so little by little he worked until he accumulated a whole rupee. When the son presented the money to his father, he once again threw it into the fire, but this time “the son was in a frenzy” (pg. 2) and snatched the money from the fire with his bare hands. The father then said “now I believe that you have earned this rupee yourself” (pg. 2) and told him that the value of earning his own money is worth a lot more than someone else’s money. The narrator later tells us that the father passed away peacefully and the son inherited all he owned and his son “went to the land from which no man ever returns” (pg. 2). I believe that the father did this to teach his son what it’s like to work hard and earn money instead of getting everything handed to him. I agree with the author when he wrote “as long as you work, you will have money and contentment and all things will be yours.” I have the same opinion as him because it reminds me of how my parents have taught me that if I exert myself and work for what I want, I will profit from it and I will be content. I feel that the story portrays a positive message seeing that it shows us the value of hard work and demonstrates to us how putting in the effort really does pay off. The story and my experiences mirror each other because I used to be extremely lazy, especially when it came to school work, but I have since learned to work hard so I can better my future. The story teaches us that nothing comes easy and we cannot cheat our way through life. I believe we should be aware of these ideas in our everyday lives for the reason that everyone should perform to the best of their abilities and always be truthful to themselves and others.

The purpose of Afraji Gill’s piece is to clear up the misconceptions of what society perceives success to be. Afraji Gill himself who achieved high grades throughout his high school education felt that his educators’ and societies’ definition of success was wrong. To Afraji Gill success was not high grades, receiving awards or scholarships and being on the honour roll. To him success was defined as how well you grasped the learning material and knew how to put it to use. That a grade on a piece of paper should not define your intelligence and your success. For there are people in the world who receive outstanding grades because they happened to memorize the materials for their test, but as soon as the test is over they have not properly grasped the material and knowledge covered, to put into practical use. I think that Afraji Gill’s article’s purpose is to make people aware that you should not base a person’s success on their grades but on rather how well they know the material, and that failure should not be looked upon as being unsuccessful, but instead should be acknowledged as a stepping stone in becoming
The problem we have in today’s society is that people work to acquire as much money and possessions as they can and they think this will achieve happiness. Unfortunately, nobody told these people that happiness cannot be purchased and our possessions will fade no longer keep our interest. As we engulf ourselves in our daily busy work, our relationships are becoming strained and we are distancing ourselves from real happiness. We are seeking the means of work and money as an end, and we are chasing the wrong things in life. We hide from our unhappiness by watching television or partake in activities to distract ourselves from our problems. We need to find true happiness and this is found in becoming virtuous, creating good friendships,
For a long time, the popular myth of success and that of gender have shaped humans’ minds and behaviors in a certain way. They set up a certain behavior model and provide people with an idealized reference for living their lives. However, people put too much emphasis on the bright side of these two widespread but outdated beliefs, and surround themselves in ideal images constructed by the myths. With humans and society marching on, the age-old and deep-rooted myths are not completely suitable anymore. The old fashioned myths have become certain clichés. They sometimes conceal important social realities and convey a false image of what people really think and do. The dissonance between myth and reality sometimes disillusions people and may bring worse outcomes to the society. Wayne Dyer, an internationally renowned author declares, “What we think determines what happens to us, so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our minds.” Although part of the myths is still valuable and instructive, in order to make them more tenable, people need to be cautious and critical and be aware of their weakness. Success should be defined not only by wealth and reputation, as the current myth states, but also by personal happiness, which can be achieved through the combination of honesty, hard work, opportunities and s...
“It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime”- Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner
...y where one can make if they work hard enough and take the right chances is just too strong to be ignored.
... is sometimes unimaginable. It is one part of the everyday life that is evident to play one of the biggest roles in today’s society. Use of money can definitely result in negative consequences but also positive ones. Using the power of money, one can change countless lives stuck in poverty. Using the power of money, one can provide a living for oneself and a ray of hope in another’s life. Seeing a positive use of power as money, I help an approximate number of fifteen physically disable children in the care of the Salvation Army in India. Shocked by the state of their lives, I felt the need to make use of something in order to give hope to the children. Thus, with the power of money, I started donating regularly in the hope that, if not much, at least they may have the comfort of living properly.
Moreover, this concept of free will and becoming financially self-reliant is still prevalent in modern society. The mid-twentieth (20th) to the early twenty-first (21st) century has become the age of entrepreneurship, where peoples from all nations no longer desire to work “for the man” but create their own legacy of prosperity. Likewise, it is a period in time that has redefined the way in which those from all walks of life can obtain success and wealth. Hence, the evolution of reality TV stars, YouTube sensations and rappers from being ordinary individuals to becoming fashion designers, actors and CEOs. However, our definition of success is not only defined by wealth it also includes having a life of meaning that is similar to that of Dr. Martin Luther king Jr. and Malcolm X. Certainly, I am speaking of a life that encompasses the ability to change our world for the better.
Have you ever dreamt of your dream house? Have you ever wanted to invest in the stock market? Have you ever dreamt of winning a large sum of money in a short time? If so, I strongly advise you to read the short story ‘Paper’. In the story, Tay Soon and his wife dreamt of owning a big house so they tried their best to collect their money to buy it. As the stock market was growing interest at that time, they decided to invest some money in the market so as to pay their house. Luckily, they won the money for their house in the market. However, they were so greedy that they continued investing in the market. The market crash came and they lost all their money. Because Tay Soon could not accept it, he went mad. Finally, the madness drove him to death and his mother decided to build a paper house which he had dreamt before. In ‘Paper’, Catherine Lim uses irony to admonish people not to be greedy; otherwise, a person may lose his life and family.

“Start by doing what is necessary; then do what is possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”- Francis of Assisi.
Every individual’s life is dictated by paper and coins. Without money, you cannot buy food, clothes, shelter or the necessities needed
Conclusion Time: The “glorious” life ain’t all that it’s cracked up to be. Because when a person wakes up from the fantasy of having everything they want, they are able to realize that money is nothing more than paper with a dead man’s face on it. The youth should know that there is more to life than wealth. Look hard, and they will be able to find what I’m talking about.
Find yourself and stay true to that task by progressively applying hard-working and stress-free habits, you do not want to be the god-why-does-this-work-never-stop type of person. Don’t follow into the steps of the mainstream version of “success” instead create your own that holds similar values, but with more happiness and less stress. The marketers and big businesses want us to believe and perceive that the ultimate key to success is a stack of hundred dollar bills, foreign cars, and enormous 4,000 square foot lavish houses. But what they do not understand is a couple of things-it is falsely advertised to seem amazing and appealing, and true success requires respect to yourself and others, appreciation to the people who have been with you since day one, integ...
As a conclusion, money can but a lot of things, but not memories. Life is not about journey at all, but life is an adventure. We need to prepare our mental and physical ready to face the adventure. Life is not a subject that people can learn in a textbook. We need to find it. To understand what means life, first step is we need to change our own perspective towards life, and we can see the rainbow of life. Enjoy our single time of life, because, we can undo the time. Always make the time in our life valuable, so one day we don’t regret. Last but not least, don’t forget to thank to GOD because give you a valuable change to live everyday.
