For many decades, the fast-food restaurant loved by virtually everyone internationally known as “McDonald’s” has presented itself as a charitable restaurant that has always cared for children. Their commercials often depict euphoric children happily eating happy meals. Even when they do not depict children in their commercials, they will instead show perfectly healthy adults enjoying salads. However, behind this kind, warm-hearted façade lies a cold, calculating, and deceitful group of individuals solely interested in profit, and one need not look any further than the fact that they utilize harmful chemicals in their food, employ children in jobs beyond their level of skill, brutally butcher animals in order to obtain the meat necessary for …show more content…
Shocking hidden-camera video exposing startling animal abuse at a McDonald's egg supplier was released today at news conferences by the animal protection organization Mercy For Animals. The video reveals hens crammed in cages so small they can't fully stretch their wings, dead birds left to rot in cages with hens still laying eggs for human consumption, and workers throwing hens, breaking their necks, and burning off their beaks without painkillers” (“Undercover Investigation Exposes Shocking Animal Cruelty at McDonald's Egg …show more content…
In an article from Business Insider written by Ashley Lutz, she notes how their breakfast meal is 1,150 calories, while their premium chicken and bacon “McWrap” clocks in at 620 calories (Lutz, “The 10 least healthy items you can order at McDonald’s”). In an even more ironic twist, another article from Business Insider written by Hayley Peterson mentioned that the McDonald’s kale salad is actually less healthy than their Big Mac. To explain, what she wrote was that, “McDonald's Canada's "Keep Calm, Caesar On" crispy chicken salad with "real parmesan petals" and "a nutrient-rich lettuce blend with baby kale" has 730 calories, 53 grams of fat, and 1,400 milligrams of salt, once you add the Asiago Caesar dressing” (Peterson, “The new McDonald's kale salad is worse for you than a double Big Mac”). Peterson further writes, “By comparison, the double Big Mac featuring two beef patties and three pieces of bread has 680 calories, 38 grams of fat, and 1,340 milligrams of sodium” (Peterson, “The new McDonald's kale salad is worse for you than a double Big Mac”). What with all this information on these items, this only furthers the argument that McDonalds does not benefit society in this
McDonald's is one of the multiple fast food restaurants that serve greasy and oversized meals that are harmful to the human body. Throughout a thirty day McDonald's only diet, Spurlock surrounds himself with logos, ethos, and pathos to impact the viewer's opinion on the true cost of eating fast food
Chickens are one of the top most tortured animals in factory farms. Farmers get the most money for chickens that are heavier and have enlarged thighs and breasts. Like most factory farmed animals, broiler chickens are raised in overcrowded cages their entire life, and become very aggressive. Because of this aggressiveness the employees of the farms cut of their beaks and toes without any type of painkiller or an anesthetic just to keep them from fighting. After being “debeaked” some chickens are then not able to eat and starve. Layer chickens lay 90-95% of the eggs sold in the U.S. (2013b) The torture starts the day they are born. Chicks are placed on a belt, where an employee than picks up each chick to see if it is a male or female. Newborn male chicks are thrown into trash bags, ground up alive, crushed, and killed many other inhumane ways.
Any agency that uses children for marketing schemes spends hundreds of billions of dollars each year worldwide persuading and manipulating consumer’s lifestyles that lead to overindulgence and squandering. Three articles uncover a social problem that advertising companies need to report about. In his research piece “Kid Kustomers” Eric Schlosser considers the reasons for the number of parents that allow their children to consume harmful foods such as ‘McDonalds’. McDonalds is food that is meant to be fast and not meant to be a regular diet. Advertising exploits children’s needs for the wealth of their enterprise, creating false solutions, covering facts about their food and deceiving children’s insecurities.
This story Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novel about an animal revolution over an oppressive farmer. The irony in the story comes when the pigs turn into the very thing revolted against. They exhibit the same cruelty by treating the other animals the same or even worse than previous owners. This cycle of cruelty is shown in the Russian revolution by Joseph Stalin who is represented by Napoleon in the story. Cruelty in animal farm is shown by the human’s treatment of the animals, and the animal’s eventual treatment of each other and the ironic characteristics of the two.
When researching McDonald’s through online sources, it is clear that nutrition is a major concern of the public visiting the fast-food chain. Secondary research conducted shows that there are several case studies and other secondary source searches around the same topic. McDonald’s has often been the center of nutritional attention within the fast-food industry. Secondary research shows that the restaurant has recently made changes to the American Happy Meal to reduce the amount of French fries offered and replace the portion with fruit (Strom, 2011). In a study conducted by McDonald’s a secondary source reports the meal cuts calories by 20% for the children’s meal (Strom, 2011). This is a critical move by the organization on children’s obesity is currently a hot topic within food chains and attention is driven by the Obama administration. Secondary research also shows that although the public has major health concerns with the food chain, profits are increasing during a high point of an economic recession (Dahan & Gittens, 2008). First, my personal reaction to this is documentary is an eye opener. I knew McDonalds was more harmful to than other fast food places, but I never knew about the lawsuit between McDonalds and it consumers. I never saw McDonalds as having big impact on my life; this is probably because the McDonald’s in my hometown never had a super-size option. In the video, Spurlock conducted interviews to gain ...
McDonalds is one of the most well known fast food restaurants in the world. It is so popular that it sells seventy-five hamburgers every second and is shockingly also the worlds largest toy distributor (Lubin, and Badkar.) The powerful company is an overwhelming influence not only in the worlds economy, but also the worlds holistic lifestyle and health; therefore, McDonalds must be carefully monitored-carefully monitored meaning every move, every change, every single action the company makes needs to be a healthy one. Since the McDonalds business is unbelievably large, it has to manufacture a lot of food, and in a fast food business more in numbers means lower quality. But the food served isn’t lower quality. The food is not even food. It is poison! The chain restaurants food that is sold to the world population contains over 70 cancer-promoting ingredients (Roberts), not to mention it also contains preservatives that are butane-based, bleached flour, and the main ingredient found in silly putty (Breyer). It is clear that McDonalds does not sell food that anyone should be eating; yet, it poisons 68 million people a day, or in other words one percent of the population (Lubin, and Badkar.) 68 million people poisoned every single day. This atrocity absolutely without doubt needs to be stopped.
When Ray Kroc opened his first restaurant in Des Plaines, Illinois, the famous chain was born. The company has become very successful with having sold over one billion hamburgers within just eight years of business (McSpotlight - History of McDonalds). So if this chain is so popular, why has McDonalds been criticised so much lately? Mostly because their food options are very high in calories and fat. The most caloric item on their menu is the Triple Thick Chocolate Shake - 1160 calories, 27g of fat, 168g of sugar, and 510mg of sodium. The most fattening menu item is the Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese - 740 calories, 42g of fat (19g Saturated), and 1380mg of sodium! “It delivers the highest calorie, fat, and sodium content of any sandwich or burger at McDonalds.” The other three most unhealthy foods on the top five list are: Chicken Selects with 660 calories, Grilled Chicken Club with 570 calories, and the Big Mac with 540 calories (Fitzpatrick). Only seven items on the McMenu contain no sugar - fries, sausage, coffee, Chicken McNuggets, hash browns, Diet Coke, and iced tea (Super Size ...
It is horrifying to know the fact that the processed food that we eat today is once animals that are processed alive. The ignorance of the companies has caused the suffering of these poor animals. Gale (2013) writes, “.[media] do not tell us that chickens are the most tortured animals in factory farms and that most chickens have to stand on their own feces all day and end up getting litter burn from their manure. hens are often crammed together in cases so tiny that they do not get enough room to even lift a single wing—which then immobilizes them for their entire lives.”
Marketers are often accused of marketing to children to gain higher profits. Young children are targeted because they usually do not know right from wrong. Many people have criticized McDonald’s for advertising the Happy Meal towards young children for higher profits. Some people consider it unethical because the Happy Meal is so unhealthy. However, McDonald’s has taken many initiatives to show that it is a corporation that does not manipulate children for profit and that they care for children. The Ronald McDonald House Charities organization was created by McDonalds in 1974 to help children in need. The organization believes that helping one child will go a long way, and they express their commitment in their vision statement, “We believe when you change a child’s life, you change a family’s, which can change a community and, ultimately, the world” (Ronald McDonald House Charity). McDonald’s also provides donations for many other children’s charities and has taken steps to improve the Happy Meals by providing healthier options. McDonalds works hard towards making children all ove...
We all have a responsibility to live ethical in regards to respect of others thoughts and feelings. Although not been ethical is not always against the law there are also other negative outcomes that a company may endure for such practices. One outcome is a negative or bad image. Since McDonald’s targets a lot toward children having a negative image could deter parents from wanting their kids to eat there and thus affecting McDonald’s bottom line. Not only parents would be affected by a negative image but also other countries that the company may want to expand to. For example, some countries do not allow McDonald’s to operate there because of some of the unethical decisions that have made.
McDonald's claims that you can eat McDonald's three times a day and still be healthy. They say with their wide range of items on their menu it is possible, hinting towards their “healthy” salads. They once marketed a salad as being two-hundred forty calories. The lettuce and vegetables alone may have been two-hundred forty calories, but when you add the dressing, the meat, the nuts, and the fruit you get an item that even outclasses the Big Mac when it comes to calories. In another case they marketed fries with zero trans-fats.
There are many debates around the world about the topic of animal abuse. Animal abuse in the food industry has become a major problem due to the cruel treatment of animals. Most of the world's population might think that animal cruelty is only found in homes and on the street, but they forget about the other forms of animal abuse that affect the food industry. Large contributors to animal abuse are due to fishing methods, animal testing, and slaughterhouses. "Animals have always been a major part of our society in history and they have played huge roles in agriculture" (ASPCA). Factory farming is a system of confining chickens, pigs, and cattle under strictly controlled conditions. Slaughterhouses are places where animals are killed

To address this first, I would like to write this portion of my letter to my fifth period teacher regarding to the protest that occurred on Wednesday. I want to make this certain right at the start of this letter, this letter is not an apology letter because I will not apologize for standing up for what I believe in and taking a stand for the students that died last week. It was disrespectful to me and every single person that protested that you thought it was rational to say that we did not care for the students, that we only cared for “five minutes-of fame,” or that if we wanted to protest we should have left. Believe me, we tried, but the last time I checked I cannot leave the school when I am being halted and chased by APs left and
