Sports Medicine Physician Some people may ask, why should I be a sports medicine physician? or what is the importance of a sports medicine physician? Well, that answer would be to help athletes pursue their dreams and make sure that they can prevent injuries while doing something they love. I wish to be a sports medicine physician because I have a love and passion for sports. I have always been fascinated by physical therapy, but when I found out about how you could do physical therapy and be a part of the action, I was all in. Now in sports medicine, certain injuries can only be assessed and treated by specific physicians. These physicians can include physical therapists, athletic trainers, and strength and conditioning coaches. After my high school career, I knew that I could not stay involved in sports because of all of the injuries I have experienced, so I decided I wanted a job that is behind the scenes but still rooted in athletics.
