I want to pursue Sports Management because I want to have a career in the business of basketball and I believe NC State is the ideal university to prepare me for this. When I say business of basketball many people tend to look at me with a puzzled look. I am referring to working in the office of a professional sports organization or working inside a college basketball program.
I have grown up with basketball around me and I have a true passion for more than just playing the game but the entire industry. I want to wake up excited about going to work in the morning and I want a career that engages me to the fullest. I am getting some early experience with this with my Senior Service Project at school. My project is to organize the Josh Level
Classic. This is a charity basketball game to raise money for the Josh Level Foundation which honors the life of Josh Level who passed away playing basketball. I believe this is one of the top All Star basketball events in the country and some NC State players have participated including: Caleb and Cody Martin in 2014, and in 2015 Dennis Smith who is a NC State basketball signee. I am enjoying the process of putting this event together and I want to feel the same way about my career. I believe the sports management program would prepare me for said career. I am also interested in pursuing a minor in Business administration because like I expressed earlier I want to be in the business of basketball. I have heard nothing but good things about the Poole College of Management regarding the real life situations it engages its students. I believe experience is the best teacher and the experience I gain will be a key to my future.
The few cons of a career as an athletic director are that you may have an erratic work schedule, may have heavy workloads at the beginning of sports seasons, and you have to be skilled in a variety of areas such as finances, management, and coaching. Why I am Suited for this Career? I have a sports background because of my sports participation in golf, baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. I took a sports management class my senior year in high school.
Since its creation in 1893, the sport of basketball has been one of the most popular sports in the United States. One wouldn’t have to search long to find a basketball court and a pickup game in most American cities. Many people around the world look up to the stars of the National Basketball Association as role models.
The Head Coach of the JV Football team has given me the honor of being his Special Teams Coach. This job requires me to train his kickers, punters, long snappers, and holders. Starting August 1st I began working with a kicker for 2 hours per day and he has shown major improvement over the past month and a half. In the beginning, though he was very pessimistic about his success and it took a lot of motivation on my part for him to not quit. When I began training him we had to begin from the ground up because he had never kicked a football before in his entire life which was a major barrier to his success we had to get over. The head coach thought that I did such a good job with the first kicker that now I am training 3 kickers. My job includes

It's almost very necessary to have been on some sort of team at your high school to learn about the environment you'll be working in. Also volunteering will look good on an athletic directors resume, you could volunteer for the YMCA or umpiring a youth athletic team. You must have a bachelor’s degree in sports management, but a lot of athletic directors don't Start out being an athletic director usually they start as a teacher or a coach to gain some traction in the field. Getting a certification from The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association is key and it'll show that you are a registered athletic administrator, certified athletic administrator, and a certified master athletic administrator. The top three sports management degrees in the nation. The third best sports management degree in my opinion is the University of North Carolina. The program there prepares students for careers in very competitive settings within the sports world. The course offers training in sociology, sales, economics, and communication, licensing and marketing. The second best sports management degree is the University of Texas. This major prepares students for managerial, marketing or administrative careers in a variety of settings within the sports industry. The number one sports management degree program in my opinion is Temple University. The program at Temple University focuses heavily on internship requirements, in no small part because a degree in this field can be used in so many different sectors of the sports industry. Nobody in life ever said anything was easy, but with hard work it'll come easy. Athletic directors have a very big job to do in inspiring students to be the best and giving them all the tools they need to
Being an athletic director seems like an amazing job because of the interaction with people and being around athletics. A lot of kids are involved in at least one sport, if not more, during their life time. Being an athletic director would give the opportunities for the kids to enjoy the sport or sports they are in by having an organized program and making it a good experience for them. An athletic director’s job is very important, they make sure every thing is in tact and organized. They make the schedules and let everyone know what is going on.
I am a young ambitious student who strives to excel in everything I do. I want to study Sport Psychology as I know I possess the right skills to further and develop myself in the career of sports. I have the ability to understand others in sports as I also play sports myself. I have been in high pressured sporting situations which I have used my psychological skills to help increase my performance. What interests me in Sport Psychology is that I can make a big difference to not just my life but the lives of people in sport such as rehabilitating athletes or boosting athlete performance. I am fascinated by how different athletes perform in the same environment and getting practical with the mind, body and brain. Improving performance, consistency and stability in an athlete’s
As a college basketball player, I learned that being an effective leader did not mean that I had to be a constant bundle of energy. Rather, I realized over time it is more important to understand your teammates and what makes them tick, and to translate that knowledge into separate leadership styles to match each individual. This is crucial when working with an extremely diverse group of attitudes, personalities, and mindsets. I believe people would describe my style as steady, positive, and upbeat – opposite of my head coach in many ways. Countless times I would pull a teammate aside who had been berated and explain in a constructive
My senior project is about being a coach and how it can be difficult and not an easy task. I wanted to show others that being a coach is something that takes time and effort in order to accomplish it. Being a coach is not a fun job but it is a job that will help you in the future. Coaching is an experience that not a lot of people get to go through but those who do become not just better people but they become teachers to others in troubling times and in time of need. Coaching gives you and also shows you that being helpful and courteous to others actually helps you out as a person and it also helps out the players you’re coaching to be better people and to be kind and not take things in the wrong way and to show them a better way that will help them in their life.
Sports has been a passion of mines since I was a kid. It was not until the end of tenth grade that I realized how much basketball had influence my. Playing basketball is a way for me to escape from the real world. Playing basketball made everything feel better and made me happier. I can not imagine my life without sports and what a better way but to work in the sports industry. My personal goals for getting a degree in Sports Management is to go professional and give back to the community. “People are remarkably bad at remembering long lists of goals. Clarity comes with simplicity.” As a child he always looked at being able to play or coach a sport at the professional level. For the reason of me just loving the game of Basketball. As time progresses, watching and supporting sports is becoming more and more popular as a main source of entertainment. Depending on a person’s interests, there are jobs in professional, amateur, and even school sports. Once a person decides on a sport management career, it needs to be determined which area he or she more specifically wants to go into based on his or her interests and abilities.
I had always heard playing basketball at a high school level was always the first step in order to become a professional. Though I only played once throughout high school I was still interested in how one could become a professional at basketball. For my senior project I chose to research about it and found out many interesting things I didn’t know about it. My knowledge for basketball grew even more.
