Statistically females have approximately a 12% higher heart rate than males (Livestrong.com), taking into consideration of this natural differential between the sexes the averages have been calculated by the differences of initial heart rate and final heart rate. By doing so the results are able to correlate accurately against one another, demonstrating the increase/decrease of the participant’s heart rate. However, the results gathered exhibit inconsistency due to the averaging of the beats per minute between the males and females. This is as the anomalous figures of the sample skewed the results, altering the figures to be less/more significant than necessary. The influence of food eaten, age and sex of the person all affect the heart rate. Since there was no prior calming session before the experiment it is to be expected that the heart rate of the students are higher than their normal resting rate due to just finishing lunch. The understanding of the film excerpts context by each of the participants also alters the heart rate. According to this investigation The Patriot is the justified film excerpt and Crazy, Stupid Love is the non-justified film excerpt. However, for those who have seen both movies their opinion may be contradicting to the investigation. One participant’s heart rate may have not increased because of the understanding of the situation. The extremity of the violence also plays a key role in the results gathered. This is as the two film excerpts of justified and non-justified violence were two levels of violence with one film portraying mild/moderate violence (punching, kicking and so on) to a murderous rampage, with masses of gore (extreme violence). I predicted that the blackworms in higher caffeinated solutions would have higher pulse rates, because caffeine is known to increase blood pressure and heart rate. However as far as scientists know, invertebrates are not expected to have a strong response to caffeine like vertebrates do. Also, caffeine in low doses is known to lower pulse rate. The results do not support my hypothesis. The results show that when black worms are placed in caffeinated solutions, their pulse rates on average are lower than those placed in a solution with no caffeine. A possible flaw that may have occurred during experimentation is that the petri dishes were not properly cleansed, or that there were other properties in the water that influenced the outcome. To eliminate these flaws, I could have boiled the petri dishes and water to insure that there were no other properties to influence the data. Further experimentation should be performed with higher doses of caffeine to further insure that caffeine does in fact lower their pulse rate. The insufficient number of trials performed lead to less confidence in my conclusion that caffeine lowers the heart rate in
The purpose of this experiment was to gather data on how the amount of time spent active impacts the speed of heart rate in beats per minute. The hypothesis stated that if the amount of time active is lengthened then the speed of the heart rate is expected to rise because when one is active, the cells of the body are using the oxygen quickly. The heart then needs to speed up in order to maintain homeostasis by rapidly providing oxygen to the working cells. The hypothesis is accepted because the data collected supports the initial prediction. There is a relationship between the amount of time spent active and the speed of heart rate: as the amount of time spent active rose, the data displayed that the speed that the heart was beating at had also increased. This relationship is visible in the data since the average resting heart rate was 79 beats per minutes, while the results show that the average heart rate after taking part in 30 seconds of activity had risen to 165 beats per minute, which is a significantly larger amount of beats per minute compared to the resting heart rate. Furthermore, the average heart rates after 10 and 20 seconds of activity were 124 and 152 beats per minute, and both of which are higher than the original average resting heartbeat of 79.

The purpose of the article, “The effect of video game violence on physiological desensitization to real-life violence”, written by Nicholas L.Carnagey, Craig A. Anderson and Brad J. Bushman is to show the effect that video games has on physiological desensitization. Psychological Desensitization is defined as the diminished emotional responsiveness to a negative, aversive or positive stimulus after repeated exposure to it. In other words the purpose of the article was to experiment whether or not people who played violent games were able to still be aware of the violence happening around them. It was placed on a slide, a couple drops of water was placed on the slide to keep it moisturized. Next, we used a microscope to observe the heart beating in the transparent animal. According to the lab report on page 98 the normal heartbeats are about 350 per minute. By using a pencil and paper, we made a small dash for every heartbeat over a 15 second interval. Than we continued to repeat the observation of the heartbeats 3 more times for a total of 4 observations. We than totaled up the number of dashes and calculated the average of the four 15 second observations, this was labeled “Normal Heart Rate” on Table 1. Next we added 1 drop of an “unknown” solution that was assigned, we made sure to determine the average normal heart rate before doing do. The same procedure outlined above was conducted. Many people have different perspectives when it comes to the topic of love. The word love has been tossed around by everybody and not very many people really understand the true meaning of love. There are some exceptions, but I think this is especially true for teenagers and young adults. I might be one of those people who do not fully understand the topic of love, but I hope to better understand the topic of love and its true meaning is this course.

I disagree and would argue that being in love and loving someone has two very different meanings. The word love is used too loosely. Loving someone and being in love with someone are two very different things. Although I am not a love master, being only 19 years old and in two serious relationships in my life, I have come to realize being in love is something special. I believe when you are in love it’s not a choice, that person is picked for you. You are addicted to them, you want all your friends and family to love them as much as you do, you are there when they succeed and there when they fail, you miss them every minute you are apart and you unconditionally love them, even when times get hard.

As for me I found love in the pouring down rain in the middle of the street. I fell in love with a man who I never thought in a million years I’d fall for. A man who is loving, caring and respectful. The night I laid my eyes on him I knew he was it. He came into my life at a point when I was unraveling and losing control. I was lost for two years after my high school sweetheart and I broke up, I thought I was never going to find real love, but I did. He saved me and I remember every minute from that night.
