There are many positive things and negative things about the movie and the story. In the movie
you have a chance to see what Elizabeth looks like. That alone could be a positive and negative thing.
The movie is more glamour than thought. In the movie your mind has more free will so therefore this is
the better of the two. The thought in the movie that, there is unlimited communication between the two,
takes away your imagination and the curiosity of what they will say and how they will say it in the last
message between the two of them. The changing of the time period was a very smart and interesting thing
done in order for the movie to fit exactly into place. In the story the little details is what makes it
important. Such as the marble floor in the Post Office, or that in the story, the Post Office is small. All of
these little details are left out in the movie. Although it doesn’t seem like a great deal, the little details do
play a large part in the importance of the Postal Office in the story. Although the story seems more
simple in the “word” sense, it also leaves a lot of room for the mind to wonder what it is like back in the
1800’s. Therefore the story is more open for the mind and it is more pleasing.
“A girl in a high-necked dark dress with cameo brooch at the collar. Her dark hair was swept
tightly back, covering the ears, in a style which no longer suits our ideas of beauty. But the stark severity
of that dress and hairstyle couldn’t spoil the beauty of the face that smiled out at me from that old
photograph.” This above is the description stated in the story that described Helen Elizabeth Worley.
This description is not of lustrous beauty, but of the true love he felt for her. This statement and
description is made at the end of the story. The movie gave you the chance to make your opinion on looks
before you even began to know her. You are sort of forced by your eyes to make judgments on her
personal appearance in the movie. When you make judgments on appearance then you don’t get the
picture of this story, or any story for that matter. The imagination is one of the most powerful tools you
can have, and in the movie you don’t use it that often, because the movie paints the picture for you.
The 1920’s was an unethical period that saw the neglect of numerous social groups. Whilst we often associate 20th century America with the iniquities of segregation imposed by the Jim Crow laws, it is also the case that women were subjected to a second class role. Fitzgerald effectively presents the detrimental patriarchy in The Great Gatsby through the use of various techniques, his crafting of male characters being physically dominant, enables the reader to conclude that the 1920’s was a period of injustice. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye provides further support to this argument by presenting a corresponding rejection of female equality two decades later.
One of the reflections Fitzgerald reveals to us is the oppression of women. He accomplishes this by exposing the injustices that they had to encounter. After World War I, women had gained not only new jobs, but also the right to vote. This gave the women of the 1920s freedom and independence (Hanson 55). However, in The Great Gatsby, women are depicted as objects (Affroni) that are weak, impure (Tunc 74), and mostly dependent on men (Affroni). Contrary to the modern woman, most of the women in the novel were reliant on men to satisfy their financial needs because they did not have jobs (Affroni). This bounded them to their husbands and limited their freedom in a time of endless possibilities for women. Nonetheless, not only did this restrict their freedom, but it also kept them from reaching their full potential as members of the society (Affroni). One of these women could have had a unique talent that could be beneficial to the workforce. However, because they did not have to support themselves through a job, they were never able to ...
Female attire tended to fall into two categories: tailored suits and ball dresses, reflecting the way of life for the more wealthy. During this time, dresses tended to extend out in the shape of a bell where the end of the skirt was flared. To further describe how these dresses appeared, in an essay by James Laver, he remarks, “It is impossible to put a photograph of a fashionable woman of 1895 beside a photograph of a lamp of the same period without being struck by their close resemblance in every detail. The unmistakable sweep of the Art Nouveau line was completely parallel in the dresses of the time, in particular by the fall and swirl of the skirt.” The characters Gwendolen and Cecily are wearing ball dresses like the ones described in the Victorian era in my sketch. Their dresses are shown to be tighter in the waste (flattering their body shape) and become much wider toward the end. On the shoulders of the dresses, it fluffs up to add a decorative
uncovered the shoulders revealing lavish necklaces. The goal of women’s clothing was to be elegant and full of character at the same time (Middle Ages Ladies dresses).
Accordingly, Diana Ross resumed her music career solo and presented herself to the world extravagantly. No doubt, Diana Ross still incorporated embellished gems in her clothing. However, her hairdo transmuted from the beehive style to a short hair style. In addition, she wore little clothing in some pictures that were taken of her which was quintessential for displaying the feminine body. Consequently, the pictures where Diana Ross wore revealing clothing displayed to me that she was a woman who went against society's standard for how women should dress and exhibited a sorry not sorry look. Additionally, many of Diana Ross’s style in the seventies seemed to coalesce by celebrities today, such as Beyonce who is also known as Queen Bee in the social media realm. Moreover, even Lady Gaga seemed to jump on the train of Diana Ross’s diva style. However, there was more of Diana Ross to be inspired about and her extravagant style did not end in the

important to the novel as a whole. as we can see at the beginning of
She was the first 'nice girl' he had ever seen. (Chapter 8). Discuss the way in which women are represented in The Great Gatsby. To what extent are ideas about the American Dream influenced by (heteronormative) ideas of 'romance' in the novel?
"though I was curious to see her, I had no desire to meet her, but I did...'I want u to meet my girl'", this quote demonstrates the refusal towards the role of women throughout the novel, and the dominance of men. Gender equality has been everywhere for years, but there hasn't been change about it and if there has its very little. In these three sources, The Great Gatsby, Our Department or, the manners, conduct, Dress of refined society, and a speech by Emma Watson, are all have to do with the conflict of gender roles. Through the novel, essay, and speech equality has not changed in the areas of marriage and employment because somehow there are certain gender roles still now.
Although many mark this time as an excuse for women to dress scandalously, based merely on their appearance, there was a much deeper meaning for such a drastic change: independence. The art of the generation simply portrayed how women were displayed, yet captured a glimpse of their ferocity and boldness. In the 1920s novel, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jordan defied the stereotypical woman. She “instinctively avoided shrewd, clever men” and was described to be “incurably dishonest” with a “hard, jaunty body” (58). Compared to the bubbly, delicate women whom distorted their appearances with excessive makeup, Fitzgerald depicts Jordan as one to earn her way in life rather than objectifying herself to wooing a man solely for his money. She almost assumes the role
Good qualities are not the only things a movie must have. The movie has to have meaning. This movie shows many meanings throughout the film. I think movies
Women’s roles in The Great Gatsby were varying between each woman and their lifestyles. Daisy was a traditional women whom’s values were her appearance, status, and wealth, while she had a leisure lifestyle and many social interactions. Jordan was a modern woman who valued her work and her independence while she lived a career orientated lifestyle with some leisure and, also, many social interactions. Then there were flappers, they challenged the traditional way that women are supposed to act by showing more skin, wearing impressive amounts of makeup, treated sex like it was nothing but a thing,
I love to read…no really, I do. I love to read and writing gets equal affection. From the time I was taught to read and write, I developed an ongoing love affair with the printed word and the blank pages of a journal. I quickly discovered I could not have one without the other…for me they naturally go hand in hand. Preparing this part of the description essay paper allowed me the opportunity to ponder how this “love affair” developed over the seasons of my life and how it is still ongoing. I learned that although each love affair is unique and distinct in its own right, there are common stages in developing a love affair.
scoop back dress that ends mid-thigh. The scoop in the back ends just above my waist line to expose of my back. The material of the dress is gathered all the way around the scoop and the slight scoop in the front shows off my cleavage. I love the material that Misty used for this dress. The satin lined with silk is extremely comfortable. I glance at myself in the mirror as I walk over to grab my shoes for the night. I decide not to wear stockings with the dress so I can wear a pair of three inch sandals. I take a seat at the bench at the end of my bed and put the sandals on. The strap over my toes is the same lavender color as the dress but the rest of the sandal is white. I finish buckling the strap around my ankles and stand so I can decide which jewelry I’m going to wear tonight. I make it over to my jewelry box and pull out a thin white lace chocker. Since the dress is long sleeve I’ll only wear my amethyst ring. The amethyst stone is set in a white gold band. Now that I’m ready I grab my phone to send a text to Misty and Cassandra.
I love God, don’t get me wrong but I want a man. Like I desire one right now.
