After taking exam one, I knew something had to change, I know there’s more for me to improve, and this is just the beginning of finding the perfect method to become an enhanced test taker. Taking the study skills assessment, it’s now clear to me what area’s I need to focus on in order to improve for the next quiz and exam. The study skill assessment clearly determined that my three major concerns were as follows; Time scheduling, Concentration, and Answering difficult questions and taking exams. These are the area’s I whole heartedly agree with because they apply to how well I did on the first exam and are the reasons why I got a C+ (79% to be exact) instead of getting the B-. Understanding my weakest areas of studying, I will use the strategies from the assessment and the website to fine tune what I’ve already establish. Time management did play a huge role in hindering my studies. Instead of making flash cards after each chapter, I decided to wait a week before the test to make my own review. On the website, I wrote down the five strategies that will help improve my study time. The first strategy stated to plan study times based upon your schedule, which this alone will force me to set a goal at least once a day or a few times a week to sit down and study that material during the time I specified. The second strategy stated to study at the same time everyday which in fact helps with repetition of the material, making easier to remember later and spend less time studying it later on. I’ve learned from my mistakes and will make an effort to put all of these strategies into effect today, therefore I can create a habit that will cut down on my study time in addition to helping me to retain more of the concepts faster. I’ve already started to use a google chrome app that allows me to plan out my activities based upon the week. It has a built in timer set for 25 mins and set to have a 5-minute break once time is up. All in all, if I can manage my time more intelligently, and have more confidence in my reasoning, then I will succeed on the next exams from this point
The district is now making all teachers use an assessment tool called iReady. It is a website that assesses students in math and reading. They are first tested on a kindergarten through fifth grade range to find out what they know. Then the program takes that score and determines the right level for the child and they are tested again on the level. Once all students have been assessed the program orders the students from highest to lowest and by average grade level skill they are on: early second grade, middle second grade, late second grade or any other grade. The teacher uses those scores to create her reading groups, math groups and the students she will give extra assistance to. They haven’t officially established how many times and when they will do this iReady assessment but for now they are doing it once a week for forty five minutes. The test also flags if they spent too long or too little time on a question. The ones that spent less than 15 seconds per problem are to go back and do the assessment again.
One of my studying techniques is to have one of my family members verbally assess me on the topic of examination based on information in my textbook for the given subject. This compares to what I have just learned because I sometimes alter the location of study during these sessions, such as one time in the dining room and one time in another room of the house. However, I would always stay on one subject for a long time, which may not have been a very good idea. Another studying technique that I used to have was studying the night before or the morning of the exam because I thought (with the influence of a girl from my fifth grade class) that the information would be easy to retain since it was so recently reviewed. This compares to the article since all of the material comes back to me, but is mostly forgotten long after I take the examination. This goes along with the scientific study mentioned in the article that students who had two studying sessions did exceptionally well on a test given right after the sessions, but gradually forgot the material (Carey, 2010). An additional studying condition I have is to do practice problems and tests on the material I will be tested on. This connects to the reading for the reason that I am being exposed to a variety of problems, which, according to the text, is a brilliant way to review. My studying habits will be adjusted to
After scoring the survey, I noticed that I scored the highest in the section of During Test Administration with a perfect average score of 5 and scored an average of 4 in the section After Testing. The two lowest sections I scored in were in the General Considerations section with an average score of 3.3 and in the Prior to Test Design section with a score of 3.5. My greatest area of strength in assessment literacy is during the test administration, because I believe I do a wonderful job providing directions for the students, I monitor students and watch them to make sure they are not cheating on each other, and I make sure the testing environment is conducive to high achievement. When my tests are distributed to my students, I make sure to read the directions of each section of the students and ask my students if they need any more clarification on the section directions. If students forget the directions while the test is taking place, I make it a point to clarify them in private and then give the class a reminder for each section.

During my last semester at college, I postponed thinking about preparing for my tests. As each test day came closer, I got worried and desperately started cramming. I drank enough coffee to keep the whole city awake and woke up thinking that I would get a low grade. Eventually, I realized that students who always earned A's on their tests were not just lucky, but they really studied hard all through the semester. There are different ways to prepare for a specific test, and each individual must perfect his or her own style. I have developed a process that involves five steps to prepare for a test.
The test taking lessons have helped me learn more about having good strategies for a test. I feel that with these lessons learned I can have more confidence to take a test and pass it. In this report I want to show why test taking is an important skill to learn. I also wanted to describe how I have prepared for test in the past. I also wanted to discuss three strategies I have learned from the computer tutorial in class and how I have changed my study habits so I can do better on test.
These are the skills and competencies I have learned through my studies at Walden University. Kaslow, Grus, Campbell, & Fouad, et al. (2009) stated professionalism comes from my respect for those who need help. Integrity can be built with confidence in the therapist. Attitudes are charitable, polite, caring emotions toward others that fuel my motivation toward helping. This concern welfare of others comes from my religious and personal experiences as a child and young adult.
For me, my strength regard to exam skills is I will do a time table for my revision in order to manage my time effectively (Donoghue, 2006, pp. 7-10). Moreover, I will make some short notes during my revision because it helps me easy to understand and refer (Donoghue, 2006, p. 21). However, the weaknesses regard to exam skills is I have less motivation to study because it is too many to recall back. Furthermore, I will be nervous because lack of confident.
Prioritizing time is critical due to ways of learning and levels of energy. When studying, get in the habit of beginning with the most difficult subject or task. You will be fresh, and have more energy to take them on when you are at your best. For more difficult courses of study, try to be flexible: for example, build in reaction time when you can get feedback on assignments before they are due (“Time Management” n.d.).
This problem influences my academic and personal life because I cannot manage my time correctly in order to be successful. Firstly I am not organized and I don’t have any plan to set and apply. This shows clearly the difficulty of my critical situation. I became to feel anxious and nervous all the time and also it affects on my grade. According to this I must change the way I deal with my time by changing the methodology and follow other time management strategies. The reality that I never have manage my time and now I regret deeply that I don’t have any schedule to follow then I realize that managing time is necessary and very important.

I seem to learn better when I constantly read over the material I am studying. This allows the material to constantly be running in my mind. I am a person who will read or hear something and it usually sticks with me. I really haven 't had to study for long periods of time, because I usually remember the topic of what were being tested on pretty easily. I have also learned that I am more of a hands on person. I can learn things very quickly by putting them into action. Somehow that makes it click in my mind and helps me learn it. Mainly the study habits I can improve on is procrastination. The ability to test a student’s language skills is essential to have as a teacher. Over the years, classrooms have become much more diverse with a wide variety of impairments being presented on a daily basis. Often, these disabilities contain a language impairment that appears as a side effect of the main disability. Unfortunately, assessing language is not as easy as one may think because it is not clearly defined and understood. Kuder (2008) writes that “…language is not a unitary phenomenon- it is ‘multidimensional, complex, and dynamic; it involves many interrelated processes and abilities; and it changes from situation to situation” (pg. 274). Language also develops at different times for different individuals, thus making language assessment an even harder task for test administrators to grade and evaluate. In order to further understand the language impairment that students present, teachers need to be aware of appropriate language tests that could be administered. In order to assure that the best language test is being issued to a student, several various tests exist to choose from. To test a student’s overall language capability, a comprehensive language test, such as the Comprehensive Assessment of Spoken Language (CASL) or the Oral and Written Language Scales (OWLS), could be administered. If a teacher wanted to test a specific language skill such as pragmatics, phonology, syntax, or semantics, the teacher would need to find the best test for the student’s unique situation.
There are many different parts to time management, such as procrastination, strategy, organization, expectations and being prepared. All of them contribute equally in many ways. All of the things that we have spoken about in this paper are highly recommended. The best thing to do when it comes to time management is to set a strategy, become organized and do your best to avoid procrastination. When you manage your time make sure you include the following; studying, sleeping, eating, relaxing and other necessary things. No matter what our circumstances are, we can all use some time management skills in our lives.
An important question to address when attempting to identify effective study strategies and their relationship with academic performance is, “What are study skills?” The term “study skills” can be defined as proficiency in identifying, organizing, memorizing, and using information in order to succeed academically (Proctor, Prevatt, Adams, Hurst, & Petscher, 2006). Activities identified as study skills include “time management, setting appropriate goals, selecting an appropriate study environment, employing appropriate note-taking strategies, concentrating, selecting main ideas, self-testing, organization, and managing anxiety,” (Proctor et al., 2006).
