Introduction In the classrooms, some students have a difficult time with staying on task. They have a tendency of day dreaming, which can cause them to not complete the assignments and/or test that are given to them. This can also occur when new material is being taught. Some of the behaviors may be the result of how assignments are being presented, which can affect their academic progress and the behaviors the students exhibit. These behaviors have a negative impact on not only the student that is displaying these behaviors, but others that are in the classroom, In this paper, I will discuss my research question that is based on students in the practicum that I have been placed in. This involved giving students the ability to choose what material they wanted to use and where they wanted to complete the assignments. The data showed that when the intervention began, the latency period decreased and remained low, showing that when motivational factors are incorporated in to the academic tasks, the completion rate of the assignments were faster, the students were interested in the assignments, and the disruptive behaviors had decreased. Students are expected to be very active with their academics both inside and outside and the classroom (Koegel and Singh). When students have a say in where they are able to complete their assignments and using what materials, the students are taking that active role and completing their assignments. This causes them to become off task and display behaviors that are not appropriate for school and can hinder their academic progress. By creating activities that have factors to motivate them, students will began to start the assignments earlier than what they would have previously done without the factors. Also, by creating a break system, this allows students to step away from the instructional period at an appropriate time The students have to be active participants in their learning. When they take an active role, they may feel as though they are in charge. If they feel in charge of their learning, they may be motivated to complete the assignments in a faster manner. The only concern, is that we need to make sure the answers the students give are correct and are not the result of them rushing through. In this paper I will be comparing and contrasting three researched based articles regrading positive Behavior Support (PBS). PBS is a method of inhibiting maladaptive behaviors by teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors (Lynnette, Young, & Marchant, 2004). This method is critical in helping students with behavior disorders be able to learn in a classroom environment. In order to reduce off-task behaviors exhibited by a particular student, it is crucial to determine the function of the behavior by conducting a functional behavioral assessment (FBA). Once the cause of the behavior is found, teachers can take steps to reduce the inappropriate behavior by implanting strategies to decrease their occurrence.
Homework is a quintessential part of a student’s expectation of school. Homework can vary in length, task, and difficulty level. A student’s motivation to complete homework can be purely self driven, but parents and teachers can also contribute t a student’s desire to complete their assignment. (Van Voorhis, 2011, p. 220). Project based homework, such as The Curiosity Project, can help students stay motivated with homework completion by having clearly defined roles for students, parents, and teachers. George has unruly behavior that affects other students in the classroom, not only that George’s behavior is disruptive, but his behavior is disruptive to his fellow classmates. George’s behavior became disruptive from the point where he strikes at his fellow students, and throws paper and his books at the classroom floor whenever he gets angry. George’s disruptive behavior affect and it also interferes with his fellow students listening to the presentation from the teacher. George behavior can lead to other student outbursts and can also result in the student getting a lower grade due to inattentive during classroom activities.

By getting a break, it can help them refocus and get more done. Additionally, The American Heart News Association, a news organization stated, “After recess, for children or after a corresponding break time for adolescents, students are more attentive and better able to perform cognitively.” This quote proves that getting a break in between is better than not getting one because a break helps kids refocus, instead of them not paying attention and getting nothing done.
