The article, “Students Cheat Themselves Out of an Education,” by Daniel Ross.
Informs the reader that several students were caught cheating and plagiarizing. It also
mentions the scandal in SMC surrounding Eamonn Daniel Higgins. Students Cheat
Themselves Out of an Education by Daniel Ross says, “Higgins was formally charged with
fraudulently assuming the identity of over 100 international students throughout a number
of academic institutions in California, including SMC, in order to taek exams under their
name.” Higgins admitted that he helped over 800 students from 2002 to 2009, the ICE was
only aware of around 100. Therefore I agree to the quote, “Cheating is going to happen.

In my first year in SMC I have seen several
of my classmates cheat while we are taking a test. For example, in my Anatomy class the
guy who sat next to me would cheat every time we had a test. He would have hes whole arm
written with notes of what the test covered. The guy did not get caught and passed the
class with a B. That is why I strongly agree that it is imposible to stop someone from
cheating. Unfortanetly people still do it. I have friends that cheat while they are takign a
test. They either write notes on their desk or they use the excuse to go to the restroom and
google what ever problem their having with the test. It sounds like what one of the
instructor’s said in the article Students Cheat Themselves Out of an Education by Daniel
Ross. The instructor said, “he found a student Googling the results of an exam on an
iPhone.” The article mentions Turnitin.com, a website that allows teachers to download
submitted assignments into one large database. If the teacher believes that the assignment
is to ‘good’ for that student, in other words plagiarized, the teachers submit to turnitin.com
