In the article, “Students Cheat Themselves Out of an Education,” by Daniel Ross, Ross
argues that students who cheat do not think of their consequences, because they are
cheating to succeed due to all the pressure they have upon them to excel in school. Many
students cheat for a good grade, not because they are lazy or unintelligent.
I agree that cheating is going to happen, and there is no way to stop it because students
are pressured into getting good grades in college. Being in colleges is already tuff on
students. We spend multiple hours studying and doing homework for at least four classes,
which takes up a large amount of our time. However, for this delimma cheating should not
be a factor or an excuse to cheat.

In this case this is bad. Cheating in college is serious because you can become expelled,
loose your credibility with your professor, and there is a chance that it will be placed on
your transcript.
Professors should be more strict on how they are preventing cheating in their
classrooms. Since technology is giving students more ways to cheat, all technology needs to
be excluded in the classroom. Since copying information off the internet is one of the newer
trends in plagiarism teachers need to take action. One thing they can do is stay present in
the classroom if there is an exam or a quiz. By staying in the classroom you will be able to
have an eye on each student so you will know if they are cheating or not. Another method
to prevent cheating is to have open book exams. If you give open book exams you can really
test your students knowledge on the material. Instead of giving easy questions out of the
book, make the questions difficult, that way the student will have the answers right in front
of them.
