The basic theme of the article is that student led conferences benefit the students. One main point of the article is that when students leave elementary school and go to middle level schools, students are more reluctant to tell school information to parents. A traditional conference creates a feeling of being talked about in a negative manner. Since students know about their academic performance, they should be included in the conference. When student participate in the conference, they are empowered to take responsibility for the content of the conference and facilitate the discussion. Students also gain confidence because they are considered a worker during the student-led conference. Another benefit and main point in the article is that through empowering students and parents the conferences are constructive. The atmosphere is relaxed and supportive. Clearly define the roles of students, teachers, and parents so that the experience is positive. There should be time to practice. Lastly, evaluate the
Academic excellence is the primary desire of every parent and student. However, there are varying perceptions of the role of education in the life of and individual. There is a monthly open school morning that the PTO has in the auditorium for parents to come by and be informed about what is going on in the school. Various programs and grades offer workshops and meeting. Every Tuesday from 2:40pm- 4pm the school has that time frame allotted for parent engagement. Parents do not have to wait to meet with teacher on the two designated parents teachers conference. Each Tuesday, the parents can come in and meet with any of their child’s teachers without an appointment. The parents can discuss any concerns or issues regarding with their child’s academics or behaviors performance. Also, the school engages parents by using an electronic system called N-grade. N-grade is a parent portal where parents login and look at their child’s assignments. The portal shows their child’s assignment grades, missing assignments and assignments they can make up to earn back their grades.
The importance of this topic to me is that this is what I want to do when I get older. I enjoy working with these children and helping them to learn while learning myself. I want to do this project because I want to learn more about children with disabilities and "ordinary" children that then of what I already know. I got involved in this subject last year while I was in Government Class with Mrs. Leach. I was looking to do something for my community service hours but I didn't want something boring to do. Mrs. Leach came up to me and asked me if I would be interested in working at William Grace Elementary in the special needs classroom. I said ok, boy am I happy I said yes. That was a great learning experience for me. My interest in working with children has always been there ever since I was little. My mom always tells me that since I was little I had a way with children. No matter if they were older, younger, or even my same age. My topic fits my personality because I love people. I love talking with, listening to, and helping all different types of people with all different types of situations. I work well with all types of different people too so I am usually found to be very friendly. It connects to my life in many different ways. In one way I work at a daycare where I am running into different types of children with all different types of needs almost everyday. Another situation it runs in with is the fact that I want to be a special needs k-8 teacher when I get older and I also be able to work with "ordinary" second grade kids.
Over the course of the 21st century, there has been a steady decline in the rate of high school graduates. With such an important factor to the success of adolescents, school administrations have begun to take notice of such unacceptable findings. In this process they have attempted to understand the needs of our youth and the methods that give them the opportunity to become better readers, writers and overall students. To these young individuals, these years of development are pivotal to there success as adults. Educators must work together with the student to understand their individual forms of learning, not every student is the same and must be given the opportunity to learn no matter what the circumstance might be.
The school is the medium for content delivery and an important part of the educational team. Today’s educational system is full of choices for students and parents can maximize these opportunities. Regardless of the options, students must be present to reach their potential. Attendance at school begins the lifelong habit As parents and students navigate the road to adulthood, schools must provide options and support to assist along the way.
“Today’s young people are living in an exciting time, with an increasingly diverse society, new technologies and expanding opportunities. To help ensure they are prepared to become the next generation of parents, workers, leaders and citizens, every student needs support, guidance and opportunities during childhood, a time of rapid growth and change. Children face unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally, that have an impact on academic achievement."
In order to recognize their achievement and continue to encourage their effort, a short assembly can be held the week after the quarter ends in which teachers can present an award to their honor roll students. It can be done by grade band (K-2, 3-5, 6-8) and parents can be invited. The awards will be uniform with all students receiving the same award. In this way, students and parents can see that we celebrate their success, especially right now when there is pressure on the school to increase our performance academically in order to stay
BHS would like to invite you our Winter Student Congress. We hope that you will be able to attend one of the first congresses of the school year.
Pressures on children in today’s society are a problem that is becoming more evident in academics as parents and teachers put more and more emphasis on these children to outperform their classmates, stress in the child’s life becomes an interfering problem (Anxiety.org, 2011 Weissbourd, 2011,). From preschool children to college adults, pressure to execute academic perfection extends across all areas of curriculum. In our highly competitive, American society, emphasis placed on academic achievement has never been so intense (Anxiety.org, 2011, Beilock, 2011). This need to be the best, fueled by our culture in America, has created a social force affecting education, a force to be reckoned with at that. Too often, parents and teachers sacrifice their chil...

I think that this it’s important for students to hear what their writing sounds like when spoken too. It can help students understand the importance of grammar too, which is very important in language arts. Another conference that I would use in my classroom is the student choice conference. I think it’s very important to allow students to have a choice in the classroom and students should be able to direct their learning and use the teacher as a tool to their learning rather than the controller of their
Building self-esteem, enhancing student satisfaction with the learning experience, and promoting a positive attitude toward the subject matter are all benefits of collaborative learning. A higher degree of accomplishment takes place as a group because you essentially are a team. An example of this is a sports team. In a collaborative situation it takes every member to do his or her part in order for a situation to have a greater resolution; as where a sports team needs everybody’s individual talent to win a game. In retrospect, as a group; the contributions of our own talents can make the difference between a “win or Lose situation” it gives you a sense of competition, and knowing that you can win as a group; self esteem in one’s self is accentuated. Johnson and Johnson (1989), Slavin (1967). Another benefit to collaborative learning is based on the members of your group. Every individual in the group demonstrates their own input based on where they were born, what nationality they are so on and so on. The benefit of this is that you get a different perspective on things rather than always knowing what you know. You can take information from other cultures and add or apply it to what you already know.
The transition from high school to university can be challenging for many students. Students quickly notice differences between the academic expectations of high school compared to those of universities. High school is heavily structured, students’ attendance and participation are regularly monitored, and teachers are in daily contact with them and provide regular feedback. On the contrary, university students are responsible for organising their course schedules. They are not mandated to attend lectures regularly and professors do not monitor their attendance in the majority of the courses. Additionally, assignments and tests are the only source of feedback. Students experience a higher level of discretion and freedom in universities. However, the freedom given to students can have negative impacts on their academic success. Many students attend the lectures sporadically and some do not attend them at all and merely do the assigned work. Moreover, students who attend lectures regularly and come to lectures prepared are more likely to succeed and do well in the course than students who do not. The lectures provide the opportunity to further explore and discuss ideas as well as ask questions and clear up any ambiguities about that specific idea. Therefore, universities should promote regular attendance by making students realize their financial, academic and social responsibilities as university students.
Teachers become the watch dogs and the regulators of the new way of life, helping the child to adapt to everything seemingly new for the child. But because the parents still play an important role in the life of the child, it becomes necessary and important to group the two main actors at this stage of the student’s life to work together in raising a complete human person. Therefore the idea of a Parent- Teacher Association came to be borne out of the necessity to avoid conflicting methods and approaches in raising the
