The Park Slope School, Ps.282 is located in Park Slope Brooklyn. Ps.282 is a Kindergarten to eighth grade school full of diversity. The school’s staff was pleased to assist me with any of my needs. Although finding the right time to schedule an interview with the parent coordinator and guidance counselor was difficult, both parent coordinator and guidance counselor were more than willing to dedicate their time to focus on the interview. Ps.282 attempts to engage parent’s involvement in school using different methods. The school sends information home with the students for their parents. The same information that the students receive is posted on different bulletin boards around the school. There is a monthly Coffee Klatch with the principal …show more content…

Various programs and grades offer workshops and meeting. Every Tuesday from 2:40pm- 4pm the school has that time frame allotted for parent engagement. Parents do not have to wait to meet with teacher on the two designated parents teachers conference. The organization I work for is a nursing home management company. That’s the simple definition. Health Services Management Group manages of the operations of eleven (11) skilled nursing facilities (SNF), and three (3) home health agencies (HHA). Each of the SNFs and HHAs are operated/licensed by a single purpose entity. Of these long term care providers, one (1) SNF and two (2) HHAs are operated as non-profit organizations. The purpose of the non-profit providers, ultimately, is to fund The Trousdale School. “Trousdale School serves high functioning adults with intellectual disabilities, providing academics and life skills for the purpose of learning independence.” 1
These include Uno Charter Soccer Academy, Eric Solario High School, and Rachel Carson Elementary. These schools have outdoor space that is directly commissioned for student use and after school sports. Physical education programs are also a part of the school’s curriculum which helps reduce the childhood obesity factor. Finally, there are bus routes; # 49 Western, # 52 Kedzie/California, # 52 S. Kedzie, and the subway line that serve this community. These routes can be a link to the resources within and outside the communities that assist the population in reaching other more favorable food options or access to physical activity
The responsibilities of a professional school counselor are to design and deliver comprehensive programs to promote student achievement. The guidelines
Deciding to become a Student Guidance Counselor was not a fly by night decision. I did a great deal of reading and research before making a decision. I knew once I started a graduate program in School Guidance Counseling, it would be both challenging and a commitment until the end. I am somewhat nervous about this new journey that I am about to partake; however, I am ready to accept the challenge and make the commitment. I am a newly licensed teacher and there will be areas and terminology which I am not familiar. But, what I have found out thus far is that a teacher and a student counselor have quite a few things in common. They both work with other teachers, parents, school administrators, and the community in an academic setting. The skills I have acquired as a preschool director and teacher will be integrated into my career as a guidance counselor. I will have the skills to guide and enhance the social, academic, and personal growth of my students by using a variety of strategies which will be my primary goal. I will be able t...

In the past, Sam’s family has not been very supportive. However we know that parental feedback can greatly help assess a strategy that has been trialed with a student. By getting Sam’s parents on board with monitoring his academic and social behavior, the teacher can thoroughly assess Sam’ progress and the effectiveness of the introduced strategies, with their feedback.
I cannot recall a more rewarding experience than helping facilitate a child’s education while enabling parent participation alike. These experiences have drawn me to my current position as an Educational Assistant where I am constantly interacting and establishing relationships with students, learning about their goals and aspirations. It is that same desire to empower our future students that has steered me towards a career as a school counselor. By enrolling in the Masters in counseling program, I aspire to develop methods and experience to become an effective, experienced, and adaptable school counselor that promotes self-awareness, allowing students to realize their full potential and impetus them towards a promising future. I want to learn skills that facilitate personal and career development, ensuring that our students grow accomplishing their goals and ambitions. To discover techniques that help students improve in all areas of academic achievement, establishing relationships with students and parents alike. By becoming a school counselor, I am determined to become an advocate for underserved youth. I aim to become an effective agent educational reform, providing support for students in the various institutions that may disempower
Sarah Clark currently serves as the PTA president for Pooler Elementary School. She has two sons, who attend Pooler Elementary, one in third grade and one in fifth grade. Mrs. Clark and the family joined the Pooler Elementary bulldog family two years ago when the family relocated to Pooler from Virginia for her husband to take a job at Gulfstream. Mrs. Clark’s fellow parent volunteers describe her as compassionate, dedicated, honorable, and dependable. Teachers view her as an asset to the Pooler Elementary family, who goes above and beyond to make Pooler Elementary one of the the best little neighborhood schools in the United States.
Effective communication is the foundation to building a trusting partnership and serves as a first step to other types of parent involvement . Families who receive consistent information about their children 's school performance, have a higher degree of commitment to helping children improve .When families and schools are on the same page, they can have a more concrete discussion around student progress to establish realistic goals and plans to support student achievement . I strive to have frequent contact with all families and use flexible communication strategies through multiple channels including written and printed materials (e.g. personal notes, newsletters), telephone conversation, email exchange, social media (e.g. facebook, twitter) and face-to-face conferences depending on the nature of information and families’ preference. I intend on always making the most of drop-off and pick-up activities by sharing at least one specific information about a child to the family whenever possible. Mobile technology has become a primary way of communication and I plan on enhancing daily communication between home and school through a mobile...
The school is a popular non-denominational 11-18 Comprehensive High School for girls, with some boys in the Sixth Form. There are approximately 1670 students on roll with the Sixth Form making up 370 of this number. The school, formerly on three sites in a leafy, middle class suburb, has occupied a new single site PFI funded building on the outskirts of Wallasey since 2003. The change in location means that the school now serves a more diverse socio-economic catchment area, including Birkenhead North. The new nature of the student intake reflects this. The school now has a higher than average numbers of girls who are entitled to free school meals. The majority of students are White British but the school also has students with English as an additional language. As a comprehensive, the school caters well for students with learning difficulties and physical disabilities and even though the proportion of students with identified learning difficulties is the same as those found nationally the school currently has fewer students with SEN statements than in previous years.
On Friday October 10, 2014 I visited MacAfee Elementary school. The Guide counselor Bonnie Kudwitt, who takes place of the principle when he’s not in the building; she took me and other classmate a trip to show us the whole school. The school was very small it held 400 students from PR-K through fourth grade; from inside it’s like a U shape with a tale. One side it had the third and fourth grade and the other side had PR-K, first and second and the tale it was the gym and the cafeteria. At 8:50 we waited outside the school with Mrs. Bonnie to great the students and get them in the building. I really like what Mrs. Bonnie does every morning she has smile and her face and she know most of the student’s name.

Involving parents with school activities will benefit the school parent and the child. Teachers will have more help and will know the children closely if the parents are involved. Children feel happy and secure to see their parents around and it makes them confident too. We can start the involvement by inviting parents as volunteers for story reading and school outings. The importance of parental involvement is stressed in Lev Vygotsky's Sociocultural Theory which states parents, caregivers, peers, and the culture at large were responsible for developing higher order functions. On the other hand, parents will also have a sense of inclusion in their child’s development process. Parents will share more family time and bonding with their young kids which supports the child’s psychological needs
In the reading it brings up how most parents are only contacted by the school when it is something bad. This is not how it should be. Teachers should be sending home good news notes to the parents praising the students for their hard work in the class. Schools also need to be welcoming to the families and provide workshops to assist in the parent’s knowledge to allow them to help their children with their schoolwork. Having the parents involved and aware of the things that are going on in the classroom and the school are great ways to build that relationship and to enhance the student’s academic achievement and
