There are some nice adaptations for the Strawberry dart frog. They can extract toxic alkaloids from variance of mites, ants, millipedes, and beetles. When they extract these poisons, they store it in compounds in glands on their skin. The female red Oophaga pumilios prefers to only mate with red males which leads to speciation. According to GrrlScientist, 4 researchers conducted an 18-month mark-recapture study on this. These researchers captured 677 wild Oophaga pumilios (312 males, 274 females, and 91 juveniles) (GrrlScientist, “Choosy Females Speed Speciation of Poison Dart Frogs.”). When the researchers analyzed the data, they found that 91% of the females mated with red males. With the yellow females, there was no clear pattern on how they mated leaving out that most of the frogs were red. That leaves the frogs that were yellow not being able to breed down. Although interesting characters, engaging plot development and didactic story lines certainly embellish the story, one could argue that the setting is the most crucial. Not only does the setting provide a baseline of necessary background information, it can also be used to enhance the story, just like the other elements listed. Edgar Allan Poe certainly takes advantage of this in “Hop Frog”, “The Cask of Amontillado”, and the “Masque of the Red Death”. When Dillard said the frog “seemed to collapse” like a “deflating football” she is describing how the frog shriveled up when it was slowly dying. Dillard then explains exactly why the frog died, her diction when explaining the frogs death suggests a homicide but the details of her telling suggest that it is a common occurrence in nature. The innocent child that once walked along the island shore gawking over the “inelegant” frogs, has been transformed into a child with a new understanding for the abysmal circle of life. The main character is notably upset at the end of the essay, the lifeless frog corpse sunk to the bottom of the shallow puddle and she “couldn’t catch [her] breath”. The Grey Tree Frog is about two inches in length. Its head is short and broad and its body corpulent (Dickerson, 1969). With a white belly, white rectangular spot under both of its eyes, yellowish orange markings on the inside of the hide legs and black blotches including one that looks like an irregular shaped star on its back this frog is very colorful and exotic looking. Depending on the environment and the stress level of the frog, its colors may change (Centralpets.com, 2004). H. versicolor may actually be any shade of brown, grey, green, or even light yellow or white. The temperature and the intensity of light also affect the frog’s colors. When there is bright light and a higher temperature perhaps it will be a yellowish white with almost no markings. When it’s dark and moist it may be a dark stone gray with dark markings (Dickerson, 1969).

The experiment was conducted to test three different variables. These variables are an assessment of female aggressiveness, food deprivation, and staged male to female interactions. When testing the female aggressiveness, virgin females were run through a latency of attack assay to determine their aggressiveness. The spiders were given 30 seconds and a cricket was dropped in and a measurement was taken of how long interaction occurred between the cricket and the spider. When testing food deprivation, the number of days that female spiders went without food varied and was paired in groups of 1, 3, and 5 days for routine feeding. It was predicted that the longer female spiders went without food, the hungrier they would be. When testing staged male and female interactions, the males were placed in female containers with open lids as an escape route. Each pair interacted for six hours and all pairs resulted in successful copulation, sexual cannibalism, or the male abandons the female’s web. All instances of cannibalism were precopula and occurred shortly after males initiated their courtship sequence. After interaction, the remaining males were taken out the female web and females that cannibalized a male were given 24 hours to feed on the male before being given another male. A female never cannibalized two males consecutively. It was concluded that females that attacked prey more rapidly were more likely to cannibalize their first male mate. There is no detection of an association between cannibalism or food deprivation and female’s body mass. There is a positive association between the mass of egg cases and the number of offspring in females. The study proved that two factor are important in sexual cannibalism, female hunger state and female aggressiveness. There is also a source of fitness benefit for the female.

I decided to write about Puffer Fish because it is second the most poisonous animal on the earth following the Golden Poison Frog, as well as its ability to defence itself from predators by using its elastic stomach to inflate huge amounts of water/ air to turn themselves into a “ball” a number of times their normal size, what results in making it much harder to eat.
Frogs are amphibians in the order Anura. The order Anura is broken down into 22 different families of frogs and toads. Although they belong to the same order, frogs and toads are different in a lot of ways. Some of the more distinct differences are their skin and where they live. Frogs usually have smooth moist skin and toads usually have dry watery looking skin. Frogs spend most of their lives in or near water and toads spend more time on land. Amphibian means "double life." Frogs and toads each have two parts to their lives: when they live on water and when they live land. A frog's life starts in the water when it is hatched from an egg as a tadpole. A tadpole looks very different from an adult frog. A tadpole has a tail, no limbs, and breathes through gills. After a while the tadpole goes through metamorphosis. During the change the frog grows limbs, the tail disappears, it uses lungs to breathe, and it doesn't have to live in water anymore. As a tadpole, the frog feeds mostly on vegetation. The tadpoles have a small rasping mouth suited especially for scraping algea from the bottom of ponds. Depending on the species, it can take a few weeks to a year or more for the tadpoles to become fully grown. Not all frogs hatch as tadpoles. Some species of frogs hatch as froglets. Froglets look just like adult frogs but are a lot smaller. Froglets don't go through a metamophosis. Most species that hatch as froglets are found in dry places. Frogs who live in dry places where rains are seasonal have to grow up quickly because a tadpole will die if their temporary pond dries up. Adult frogs can live in water or on land, but it always needs to be near water so its respiratory organs don't dry out.
Most people had the chance in life to come across many unique, rare, and dangerous creäture. Living life in an unexpected manner and exploring the world. Thinking of the dangerous creature , a lot of species and animals would come to mind like for instead, here is a list of the 24 most dangerous animals in the world; Death stalker, Africanized Honey Bee, Rhino, Cone Snail, Stonefish, Black Mamba, Cape Buffalo, Poison Dart Frog, Polar Bear, Box Jellyfish, African Lion, Boomslang, Puffer Fish, Hyena, Komodo Dragon, Tse Tse Fly, Carpet Viper, Leopard, Brazilian Wandering Spider, Blue Ringed Octopus, Hippo, Saltwater Crocodile, African Elephant and Mosquito. Out of the list there is one that everyone have encounter on a daily base. Yes! You guess it right, the mosquito and it was number one on the list. I happen to have that encounter to go on but as well I have one other encounter with these wild live creature. I’m sure there is a few people in the world that have come across what I came across about nine years ago and some of the people didn’t have the chance to talk about their encounter with a creature like that.
Pesticides are contaminating the Earth’s water supplies. There are seventeen pesticides found in twenty-three state’s water supplies right now. Scientists at Cornell University conclude that 99% of pesticides miss the intended source and find their way into the water, air and soil. Most of the pollution isn’t strong enough to create an immediate impact on humans so the wildlife is the primary target to these contaminates. Animals such as the European Starling birds are constantly being tested and found that they are greatly affected both behaviorally and psychologically.
