Reflection #4
Storytelling Essay
This assignment that was given to us was to create an essay after interviewing someone who is important to us. The purpose of it was for us to learn more about and create a special bond with the person we interviewed, and then further our writing skills about someone who means a lot to us. For this assignment I chose to interview my grandfather. The reason I chose him is because he plays a very influential role in my life. I look up to him with everything I do. After talking to him about many events that took place throughout his life I put three of these stories into an essay. I thought that it was very fun and easy to write an essay about someone I am interested in. Luckily, the stories I received from him were compelling and fun for the reader to read. I found that this assignment helped me with my writing too. The essay was due on January 12th with all rough drafts attached.

My overall grade was a 97 out of 100 which I think is very good. Editing/Mechanics/Format and Content were the two main criteria sections that were graded. In the Editing/Mechanics/Format I earned a 24 out of 25. This section had five sub-sections below it that consisted of form, heading, title, spelling/grammar/sentence structure, and editing. Under spelling/grammar/sentence structure I only earned a 4 out of 5 in this because I had some awkward sentences. This has always been one of my problems when writing. I feel that I have gotten better as the intensity of the classes have progressed throughout the years. In the Content section there were also five sub-sections. One for the introduction, three for the body paragraphs, and one for the conclusion. Overall I earned a 73 out of 75 in this section. One point was subtracted from both the introduction and the paragraph #3 sub-sections. I did not get any reason as to why these points were subtracted but I am still happy with my
Paperwriter gave me a score of 81 or a B with my first draft, with one misspelling, an overused phrase score of 1.7, a vocabulary score of 92 and an overall B.
She has many horrific stories of World War II that affected her life forever and her parents were a big impact as well, which really surprised me. Her parents had one goal for her and it was for her to become a teacher. Luckily she liked it and became the teacher she wanted to be now. Not many struggles were given to my grandmother other than tragic events as she was raised by two wealthy parents who truly cared about her. Silvana Giono is my inspiration and as she taught me, I will never give up on anything. Being able to interview her, I have learned that I need to become a better person and work harder for what I really want. This has a big impact on me because I will try even harder for things I really want and will always try my best from now on. I am very glad I was assigned this project, as I feel that I have turned into a better
looking to destroy me and everything I care about. The weight I carry beside me is more than average. There is the darkness slowly coming to consume me into to a life of hell. I have found out that revenge is a satisfying feeling. People very often do things they are not happy with, but I have done something so dark and devious and I have gotten away with it without a trace. Every day I sit here it haunts me, the scarring screams of the man they once called Fortunato. Today of all days especially I have devoted so much thought to my past with the ghost of a man I vowed to avenge. All the events every single one leading up to me trapping Fortunato down in the cold disgusting cellar are on replay in my head, my father never in my life loving me his own son, the people at my school never wanting to except me but the day Fortunato came into my life stealing all the attention and popularity I never had doomed
Narrative research is a qualitative methodological approach in research (Bedford & Landry, 2010. Since the early 1980s, narrative inquiry has been emerging in regards to individual life stories. Storytelling is closely related to psychoanalytic tradition. Narrative research, consist of a multiple of approaches, that are apart of social constructionism, which is guided by the philosophical assumptions of an interpretive constructivist paradigm (Patsiopoulos & Buchanan, 2011). Through this qualitative method researchers are able to explore and obtain an understanding about individuals through specific data gathered through interviews.
Over this entire course, we have written around 5 papers. This does not include this paper. Each of these papers were very different from each other. The types of papers varied. There was a new type of paper to write every 2 weeks usually. The papers I wrote were good but had much room for improvement in my opinion. I examined each paper after it was graded
“The Lesson” a short story from Gorilla My Love by Toni Cade Bambara is about a woman, Miss Moore, who wants the best for the children who lives in the inter-city slums of Harlem. Miss Moore took them on a field trip to a toy story that has the luxuries that they do not see often. The children think she is a mean, proper lady, but she is not that at all, she just wants to help them. The author expresses social inequality in this story. “The lesson she wants to impart is the economic inequality that exists in the United States, and for the most part, she succeeds admirably in her goal” (Korb). All of the children experienced the field trip, but Sylvia was affected the most. Miss Moore is more than a character, she is a significant symbol in this short story.
The third essay I wrote was a profile essay. The profile essay I wrote was about a particular relationship that was important to me and how this person had an aspect on my life. The person I wrote about was my mother Marie Dean. In the essay I talked about how she has shown me and my brother that with determination and perseverance, we can accomplish anything we put our minds to. Another thing I talked about was how hard-working, strong and intelligent Marie Dean is.
Falls are the way they are today, the reasoning behind why the whales live in the ocean now and not in fresh water,in addition, another purpose might be is to elucidate the importance of loyalty to family. Okanogan storytellers’ purpose of telling this story is to state that the reason the Kettle Falls have a powerful force is, due to the whale head turning over repeatedly. Furthermore, the reasoning behind the whale living now in the ocean is, due to it wouldn't be able to wander in the small waters and steal other persons wifes. In addition, the purpose for telling this story might be to inform others about family loyalty, due to Fox did everything
I love how detail your essay is, the reasons behind why she resented her brothers and way the relationship changed with her mother. Jamaica Kincaid main kinship was with her mother, its very visible in her writing of "Girl." I believe her recall of her mother gives her the strict, firmness to create a good storyline. Furthermore she is definitely an author known for Writeing her perception of the past, even though they are fictions story's they betray a tale of her life . I really enjoyed your post, the only advice I would give is to take a look over the syllabus because the MLA formatting Is not occurring here but your post was very informative and
The relationship between student and educator is the focus of my research. Question: How does the relationship between student and educator influence the process of learning? Subquestion: What can be learned about the relationship between student and educator from teaching indigenous forms of dance and how can this knowledge be applied to the western educational system?
AK is an ELL student in Mrs. Tobin’s fourth grade classroom. AK is nine years old. He was five years old and entering Kindergarten when his family moved to the United States of America from Macedonia. This means he’s been in the country for four years and he has received all of his formal schooling here in the United States. According to his teacher, AK’s parents are very involved in his education and they seem to be very intelligent, well-educated individuals. AK’s mother only speaks English to AK at home, but she has a very distinct accent, which does affect some of her pronunciation of English words. AK’s grandmother also live with him, and she only speaks Macedonian. This allows AK to maintain his native language, while still learning and using the English language at home. I believe his family has found a balance between the languages used in his home that will greatly benefit AK in the long run.
How he overcame his struggles in school and reach his goals. The difficulties that my father lived and experienced inspires me to continue with my academics. As an immigrant, I came to the United States at age of fourteen without speaking the language. It was a big change in my life specially in my academics. Adapting to a new system it was hard, first day class was the longest day of my life.
It seemed like a normal day when I entered Mrs. A’s AP Language and Composition class, but little did I know that she was going to assign a very important project that was going to take forever. I took my seat and wrote down what was on the board. Then I sat patiently and waited for Mrs. A to come explain what we were doing today. When the tardy bell rang, Mrs. A glided into the room and gave us all a stack of papers. She then proceeded to discuss our upcoming assignment, a memoir. As she explained the very important assignment, I wondered whom I would write about. No one really came to mind to write about and I thought for sure I would never be able to get this thing done on time. I finally decided that I would write in on my mother, Kari Jenson. I knew I would probably put the project off until the very end and do it the weekend before even though it would get on my mom’s nerves. Putting work off was just how I did everything, it worked for me. When I arrived home from school that day, I told mom about the project. I told her I would most likely write it about her and she was overjoyed.

I was assigned to do an autobiography for an English class. It took me some time to think about the stuff and things that have influenced my life. I thought about my life for a while. So to get things started I’m going to talk about the most influential man I ever got the privilege to meet, My Grandpa. Ed Hansen: My grandpa was the coolest guy ever.
