From an early age Stevie showed a growing interest in the world of music. He defied the odds but learning several instruments without his eyesight. Years later Stevie became a house hold name with many hit songs from the first time he released his first album at the age of twelve. He is an inspiration and role model to many people around the world and a perfect model of the growth mindset. Stevie out shined the expectations people had for him. For example, he released 23 studio made albums. Also, from a very young age Wonder learned how to play instruments. Today he has learned how to play them inside out. His main goal throughout his career was to bring happiness,through music, to audiences all over he spectrum. Wonder's life was no walk in the park. Also, he did not live in a white picket fence house. He was raised by a single mother along with his six other siblings, Further into his music career,his voice deepened and he did not sound like little Stevie from the first few albums. First,he perfected the playing of many instruments. Wonder also never let the fact that he was blind was never an excuses tom give up on what he loved. He could have easily given up when his studio pushed him to the side but he mastered another instrument. He was born six weeks early with retinopathy of prematurity. It’s an eye disorder which was exacerbated when he receives too much oxygen in an incubator, leading to his blindness. Before the age of 10, he taught himself how to play the harmonica, piano, and drums. Stevie Wonder was discovered by Ronnie White of the Motown band the Miracles as age 11. He then auditioned for Berry Gordy which was the founder of Motown and he signed him to a record deal. In 1962, they renamed Stevie to Little Stevie Wonder. Next was the album Innervision The record featured two socially conscious number one R&B charts. His first finale release of Fulfillingness was inspired after he survived a bad car accident that left him in a coma. He had two number one hits both the pop and R&B on this album as well. Elton John AIDS Foundation is one of the most well-known charities in it’s field and is well respected throughout the world. Elton John decided to start this organization after losing two of his close friends, Freddie Mercury and Ryan White, to the disease. The foundation was initially set up in the United States (New York) in 1992, and then the United Kingdom (London) in 1993 (Elton). The principal advocacy of the foundation is to improve the quality of life of those diagnosed with or at high risk for HIV/AIDS.
Throughout America’s history there have been countless influential leaders that have proudly been American. Those have held positions of politicians, soldiers, and . Kanye Omari West has opened the eyes of today's generation and still continues to shape American history. His musical influence has transformed the lives of countless people. Inspiring many to stand up and fight for what they believe in is something Kanye West continues to do even today.. Armstrong was the first to successfully use scat singing, which eventually became a major feature of jazz concert. His singing method affected almost every jazz singer, including Coypin Crosby in 1940s, most charismatic singer in jazz history Billie Holly and Frank Sinatra.
Louis Armstrong was born in one of the poorest sections in New Orleans, August 4, 1901. Louis a hard-working kid who helped his mother and sister by working every type of job there was, including going out on street corners at night to singing for coins. Slowly making money, Louis bought his first horn, a cornet. At age eleven Armstrong was sent to juvenile Jones Home for the colored waifs for firing a pistol on New Year’s Eve. While in jail Armstrong received his first formal music lesson from one of the friends he met their, he later played in Home’s brass band that was located in the same facility. Armstrong gained experience from the band. After a year and six month he was released. After being released he considered himself as a musician.
Louis Armstrong was born in August of 1901 to Mary and William Armstrong. Armstrong’s father abandoned the family after Louis’s birth. Then Louis, his mother and sister lived in poverty. His first musical experience came when he sang with a group of boys on the streets in order to earn money. In 1912, Louis fired blanks from a pistol in a New Years Eve celebration and got arrested by a police officer and sent to the Colored Waifs’ Home for Boys. At the Colored Waifs’ Home for Boys, Louis received his first formal training in music from the band director there and soon turned into a leader in the band. Louis Armstrong was a very successful jazz artist, trumpet, and cornet player. Although he didn't get a lot of recognition until later and after his musical career he still led the way for many other artists. He influenced many artists including Ella Fitzgerald. Throughout his career Louis Armstrong called himself an entertainer regardless of what others thought of his music and continued to do what he loved most up until his death.
Stevie Ray Vaughan is a legend and was a leading figure in the blues-rock genre. Vaughan was born in Dallas, Texas in October of 1954. (Dutton) He was exposed to music early on in his childhood watching big bother Jimmie Vaughan play guitar. By the age of 14 Vaughan was playing in Dallas blues clubs. (Simon, 2001) When he played he demanded the audience’s attention and had a sound of blues meets Jimi Hendrix. (Wenner, 2011) His fame was based mainly in central Texas. It was not until he played at a party thrown by Mick Jagger that his band Double Trouble got their big break when David Bowie as Vaughan to perform on his upcoming album Let’s Dance. (Stevie Ray Vaughan, 2013.) He became a pretty big success and his fan base grew to places outside of Texas. In 1985 Stevie became the first white performer to win the W.C. Handy Foundation’s Blues Entertainer of the Year award. (Simon, 2001) After a performance in August of 1990 Vaughan got on a helicopter bound for Chicago that crashed into mountains due to fog just minutes after taking off killing everyone onboard. Armstrong's accomplishments as a musician and a person unveiled to the world a unique and talented gentleman, who spent his life bettering himself at his passion as well as developing a genre of music into a more complex and advanced style of music.
When most people think of blind people, they tend to picture a person with dark sunglasses, a seeing eye dog, and a walking stick. These are stereotypes and obviously do not remain true in the case of all blind people. In Raymond Carver’s short story “Cathedral," the main character is jealous and judgmental of his wife’s friend who happens to be a blind man. It is the combination of these attitudes that leads to his own unique “blindness." It is through this initial blindness, that the character gains his greatest vision.
