The team who directed the movie Step Brothers also directed Talladega Nights, they both have Will Farrell as the main character, which is one reason why this movie is considered a legendary comedy. This film has a lot of great scenes that show the comedy and the emotions from the main characters. The films comedy, character development, claim and good acting makes Step Brothers an entertaining film that will make you want to watch it over and over again. This comedy film uses scenes with humor that makes it intriguing and engaging to watch. In the film Brennen and Dale are step brothers around the age of forty who live with their parents Robert Doback (Richard Jenkins) and Nancy Huff (Mary Steenburgen). the movie Brennen and Dale bicker about each other’s interference with their different lifestyles, such as being the only child who still lives with their until they realize they actually have a lot in common and instantly become best friends. Now that they are inseparable, their parents decide to retire and sell the house to travel around the world on Roberts boat. Dale’s “perfect” younger brother Derek (Adam Scott) is a real estate agent trying to help his parents sell the house. Brennen and Dale come to realization that they will have nowhere to live if the house sells. Brennen and Dale bond over their hatred of Derek throughout the movie. Every time Derek shows the house to a potential buyer, they come up with a plan to make the customers not interested in living there anymore. Brennen and Dale cause their parents to divorce which shatters their brotherly bond. All through the movie you get intrigued by the character development between Brennen and Dale. They learn to become best friends which progresses to an even closer bond as step brothers. They overcome the hatred for each other and develop it towards their younger brother instead. Throughout the movie Robert and Nancy encourage them to get jobs and be productive but once they have jobs they realize they are depressed and not themselves anymore. Watching them go from hating each other to caring deeply for one another really shows how well their characters developed from the beginning of the comedy to the end. Brennan and Dale decide to make a presentation to offer Derek a once in a life time business opportunity. “The first word of entertainment is management such as: insurance, financial portfolios, computers and black leather gloves,” says Brennen as the presentation starts off with a picture of them looking sophisticated. The next slide on the video is research and development which shows their hard work and man power by telling a funny story about how they poured liquid paper on a bee and it died, which is sad but the table was laughing. Then they start talking about security, which shows a picture of them with holding a knife and a brick as a german shepherd dog is sitting beside them. Derek loves the idea of their business saying it’s a classic, yet he is also making fun of them. This presentation of their business is to show everyone that they are capable of having a job. Brennen and Dale are trying to act mature to be better than Dereck. Showing they have matured by wanting to open up their own business. They are trying to convince their parents they have grown up when in reality they just used their child like imagination without maturing at all. They then begin to show their music video called “Boats ‘N Hoes” which features Roberts boat. When the boat is shown Robert franticly puts on his glasses and instantly gets frustrated asking them why they are on his boat. The song is very inappropriate yet humorous and shows the immaturity in Brennan and Dale. As the music video goes on you can tell everybody at the table hates the video just by the looks on their faces. Robert asks “Wait, who is steering the boat” at the same time the boat crashes into a rock wall. Robert then starts screaming and crying while everyone else thinks wrecking the boat is hilarious. “Boats ‘N Hoes” is very entertaining to watch. The music video is very inappropriate due to their vulgarity but also very humorous. Their immaturity definitely shows during the video. Brennen and Dale knew that they would get a reaction out of their dad for using his boat, but never realized it was the first argument that lead to their parents splitting up. The ride home from the birthday dinner is the most awkward situation as they sit in dead silence until Brennan asks “Besides wrecking the boat, how was the presentation?” Nancy then replies, “Brennen I think what you did to Robert’s boat was horrid. Having said that I think both of you boys showed a lot of enthusiasm and inventiveness.” Which causes Robert to get mad and say their dream of sailing around the world is ruined. As they bicker back and forth the whole way to their house Brennen starts to take up for his mom which then causes a huge fight and leads to Nancy and Robert breaking up. They break up because they realize they cannot figure out a good way to make their sons grow up and act their age. This film shows that parenting is hard when people never want to grow up. The overall plot or claim of the movie is very predictable and immature but also very entertaining at the same time. From beginning to end you realize how immature Brennen and Dale really act, but yet the plot is very humorous as well. For example, in the beginning of the movie when they hate each other Brennen touches Dales drum set with his male genitals. Which explains why the movie is overall about two immature men who eventually bond together as brothers and never grow up. Most scenes are full of immature humor that keeps the film amusing throughout the entire movie. Catalina wine mixer scene The main reason the movie Step Brothers is considered a legendary film is from its good humorous acting.
During the entire film, there are very few dull and serious moments. The audience can laugh and see the friendship between the actors even outside of the movie. Such as the scene when they are sleep walking and bring the Christmas tree and presents upstairs to their parent’s room as their parents are arguing whether or not to wake them up. Will Farrell is known as one of the funniest and best actors in the world. The characters provide enough emotional and humor to the film that keeps the audience laughing. Every scene is full of jokes and humor which keeps the film entertaining and interesting from the beginning to the end. It is undeniable that the audience will not be able to help themselves from laughing during this film. From start to finish the movie there is never a scene where you are not laughing, making it a fun and humorous film to watch. Step Brothers character development, claim, comedy and good acting makes this film iconic and entertaining so you will want to watch it
repeatedly.
I think another big part of the movie is irony. Irony adds to the humor chart at about 10% and really makes a person think about what they are laughing about while the sit on their couch. Nacho does a lot of stuff that is ironic and that is what I call the cream of the crop or the best part of a movie or book. You also can’t see irony or you can but you can’t see the reason why it will be ironic. Unlike a joke which is just sudden and unexpected, but that’s not bad at all In peoples opinion they think that irony joins two parts of a movie or book together.
I personally thought this was a great film, although initially I thought it might be boring. Once I got past the older production quality and immersed myself into the story, I enjoyed it. I can see why this film is a cinematic classic, especially with the memorable dialogue. My favorite lines came from Carr, the floor walker. He seemed to know his job like the back of his hand. “Any man loses his spoon; he spends the night in the box”.
One of the main products of this movie that popped out to me was the stars. They all seemed to be great actors even though I only knew one of them. For example, I thought that Ian Michael Smith did a great job portraying Simon Birch. He made the movie cute and funny all at once. I also thought that Joseph Mazello did a great job portraying relatable feelings in the movie. You could tell by his facial expressions what his mood was. All the actors did a great job and I can’t pinpoint one of them who did worse than the
Braff himself has a warm, easy-to-watch screen presence. He can say nothing during the lull in a conversation, while the camera remains focused on his face, and it feels right. Portman and Sarsgaard are also genuine, each wonderfully relaxed in their roles. Production design is superb: details in every scene are arranged well, and the photography, by Lawrence Sher, is - like the story and the acting – unpretentious, never distracting, tricky or cute. This film never seems to manipulate us; instead it engages us, arouses our curiosity and amusement, bids us gently to care about Andrew and Sam and even Mark, leaving us entertained in the best sense. This movie is as confident, as secure in itself, as comforting, as a well worn pair of house slippers or your favorite reading chair. A splendid film. Grade: A- (09/04)
The play, Blood Brothers by Willy Russell, is a twisted tale of two brothers born on the same day and from the same womb, yet they live in two entirely different worlds.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? Dir. Joel Coen and Ethan Coen. Perf. George Clooney, Tim Blake Nelson and John Turturro. Studio Canal, Working Title Films, 2000. DVD.
When they are all together, it is movie magic! The dialogue and emotions that are so perfectly portrayed by all, will only leave you wanting more. Some of the gossip sessions are very dramatic and will bring you to tears, but some are so funny you’ll want to pee your pants. As Truvy states in the movie, “laughter through tears is my favorite emotion” and this movie delivers
The Great Depression of the 1930’s caused widespread poverty, but the popular culture of the time did not reflect this. People wanted to escape from this harsh time so movies, dancing and sports became very popular. Radios broadcasted boxing matches and boxers became stars. The heavyweight champion James J. Braddock aka “Cinderella Man,” gained popularity. James Braddock gained fame by winning many fights and proving everyone wrong when they said he was too old and couldn’t win.
Numerous movies, books or TV shows have plenty of character that shows development throughout the course of their lifetime, series or whatever the case may be. In this case I decided to choose Dale Doback and Brennan Huff from the movie, Step Brothers. These characters play an enormous role in this movie due to the fact they are the step brothers the title was referring to. Brennan and Dale were both in their forties, they were both unemployed, still living at home, and self- centered, spoiled men. Neither of them had the slightest intentions of moving out of their parents’ houses. Brennan’s mother meets Dale’s father at a conference, there they hit things off. These two end up getting married and moving in with each other. Which was how
Nevertheless, like I said, I found “Duck Soup” more amusing than funny. I hardly laughed, though I smiled fairly regularly, because I just didn’t find many of the jokes that hilarious. The brothers certainly showcase their talents, and the movie deserves credit for its verbal wit and nonstop humor. Even if the physical humor didn’t work for me, “Duck Soup” was hardly a waste of time, even though I didn’t think it was the comedy masterpiece that so many moviegoers consider
With the help of superb editing, sound, mise en scene, and cinematography, this film cannot be topped. The fist scene of the movie creates an atmosphere that helps the viewer know that he/she will enjoy this wonderful classic. Throughout the movie there are surprises and fun that makes this a movie that people will want to watch again and again. Gene Kelly said it best when he said, "Dignity, always dignity. " That is what this movie has from beginning to end, dignity.
There are many elements of humor that many of us didn’t know about. Different elements of humor can be amusing, facetious, ironic, light-hearted, etc. These elements can be in movies, stories, and even just in general when talking. A story with some elements of humor is “from Brothers”.
The real fun is the fantasy, absurdity, insatiable desire of characters. At the end of the film, the scene which I mentioned above is full of hints and irony. It enables us to see how transient this fiery love and desire as well as the happiness which went through all the schemes and sacrifice are. I saw the enthusiasm of Fefe, although he did kill his wife, I still cannot help but be infected by his insistent pursuit of love and earnest desire. Moreover, the exaggerated performance and some amusing expressions of the characters really makes this a movie that I will not regret to see.
Over the last few decades, technology has greatly increased its abilities. It started from the simple radio to now having cell phones which can surf the web. Technology has greatly influenced our society in many ways. Nowadays it has made family relationships have a different connection and has simplified people’s lives. A couple decades ago, a person would never had imagined to Skype a family member across the world. It would be like trying to imagine teleportation. It was unthinkable, but with moderation, technology has evolved for the better. With the new technology in our world, people are able to talk to their distant family members. People are also able to save time and watch a movie with their extra time. There are pros and cons to having technology nowadays. Yes, people are able to communicate faster and save money, but technology is also disconnecting them from the people around them. Technology has changed humanity for the better, but humans must know to use technology in moderation.
I like the film very much. I think its one of the best films I’ve seen ever. The comedy in the film is just my humour, and the action was okay.
