Personal Statement
I always have a dream to be a statistician. It is a career that collects data and report the conclusion from the data. Statistics plays an important role in the economic. Since we are living in a world that is heavily depends on economic, statistician can easily affect the world. Not to mention, math is one of the subject that I am best at. Therefore, it would be a wise to choose a career that is deeply involve in math. There are many benefit being a statistics, such as high salaries, free access to several program, and more opportunity to get a job. However, my decision of my major are not solely determine the advantages it has, but the experience and the personality I have.

to me. It was what established my personality. To begin with, when I was seven years old. My father was a small business owner. It was during the Asian financial crisis. My father barely able to maintained his business. Furthermore, he was loaning money from different place. Regardless, his business eventually went bankrupt, and he was suffered in debt. The debt collector would constantly knock door and repetitively call us to tell pay the debt. It was a terrible experience, and I was in terror. The Asian financial crisis had caused many family lost economical source. I conclude that to prevent the tragic from happening again, we have to find a better way to operate the economic. Since I had the experience living in an underprivileged family, I know it was literally an endless nightmare. Being that, others would not want to experience something I am not pleased. In consequence, I settled my mind that I want to career that is associate with the economic industry in advance to improve the economic. I assert that everyone should live in the finest circumstance. I was having the concerned of choose my major.
My parent had been telling me to major in biology, but I was thinking to be an economic major. However, I met someone who helped to decide my major, and he totally change my perception of economic industry. For a start, one time I was at Starbuck discuss my concern with my friend. I told my friend that I want to be an economic major. Suddenly, the man who is sitting next to us pulled a chair and joined our discussion. His name is James Georges, and he handed us his business card. Surprisingly, it turned out he is a Ph.D. statistician who works in the SAS advanced analytics lab. He suggested that I should major in statistics prior to work in the economic industry. He spent three hours to educate me the different branch of statistics. He mentioned economical statistician, a kind of statistician that work with client to analyze the data and maximize the value of the customer portfolios. I realized that this is a career that I am looking for, a career that can potentially stimulate the economic. Likewise, if all the small business have a successful investment, it will increase the employment rate. Thus, the average people in the society would live in a better condition. Additionally, Statistics involves more math then economic which is what I am good at. It is like a perfect major for me. In the end, it is all because of his accommodating information that cleared my apprehension of choosing a major, and I make a step forward to …show more content…
accomplish my dream. After that, I began to look for any opportunity to use the statistics concept that I learned for college in advance to have some sort of experience.
One of my friend was looking for someone to make a small project as to convince his supervisor not to change the rule. I saw it as a perfect opportunity to use my ability, and I volunteer to help him. In his case, an employee with review score of 90% will receive bonus money for each cycle. Regardless, due to the change of rule, employee currently needs to have the score of 92% so as to receive the bonus. I used the survey data he provided to analyze the impact of the new proposing rule. I use the normal distribution to approximate the binomial distribution. I was able to find the probability of not getting a bonus for both the threshold of 90% score and 92% score. The result was unpredictable. With 90% score of threshold, employee only have 42.8% of chance not getting the bonus whereas 92% score have a 72.6% of not getting the bonus. Eventually, with the project I provide, my friend was able to convince his supervisor not to propose the rule. Overall, it was motivating to involve into the surface of statistics, and I understand that the usage of statistics can totally influence our daily life. Although it is just a small project, being able to contribute part of our community make me proud of
myself. In general, the experience I have gone through had directly impacted my decision. The dreadful childhood had established my faith to change the economic, and the people around me have sharpen my will to contribute the society. With Professor Georges’ momentous information, I figure out that the economic statistics will be the best career for me. Not only I am good at mathematic, but it also connects to what I am intended to do. Being able to do something I assert to do and something I am capable of is essential for choosing a major. Although I am only currently work on some small project prior to gain some experience, I am satisfied with myself for able to support the community. My settlement is not determined by the potential benefit I can get. Ultimately, working to be a statistics and the commitment to improve the economic is just the process of my objective. My goal is simply to improve the quality of our daily life.
Why I Am Majoring In Industrial Distribution I gradually became interested in Industrial Distribution throughout my education career. When I was applying for college during my senior year of high school, I was having a difficult time deciding between the majors of Business and Engineering. Therefore, I applied to Computer Engineering and was put into Blinn TEAM. Since Blinn was more cost efficient, I declined that offer and applied directly to Blinn College. I completed all of my core classes at Blinn and applied to transfer into
The following article analysis review by Team B illustrates and identifies several examples of statistics abuse in the practical world as a result of flawed research. Golf is a sport of confidence, honesty, and patience. It has taught me to practice these traits in my everyday life. I have more confidence in myself and I know that I will succeed. I am honest even when the truth hurts. I am patient with those around me no matter how annoyed I may be. My name is Evin Edens, and golf is my passion.
I grew up in a household where education was seen as a form of self-improvement and empowerment. Being raised in rural Central California by two Filipino immigrants who had nothing more than a high school education, my family did not have an educated or intellectual history I could look up to. That is, until my mother decided to get a college education at the age of 45. I must have been in middle school at the time, before which the word “college” was never really spoken or talked about and I could honestly say I only had a vague idea of what it even was. Rather than having the traditional sit down talk with my parents about higher education, my mom clearly spoke to me through example. I distinctly remember times where I would be her study buddy, and while doing so, I found myself leisurely enjoying the pages of her science textbooks. Instead of asking her questions related to her upcoming text, I inquisitively asked juvenile questions like, “How do the genes make us?” Today I know that this is a very big and complex question that we are still trying to answer. Yet at that moment, I wanted an answer, but mother did not have the solution, nor did the textbook. That was the birth of my pursuit of scientific career.
Soaked under sweat, I stood on the running machine, took a deep breath, and counted in my mind, one…two… three, GO! With renewed power and confidence, I started to run again with satisfaction. This moment happened every day in last summer at a gym and I lost 62pounds. Had persisted for five months, I am so proud of myself that I am able to achieve the goal of losing weight and established high self-discipline. In addition, I have gained great appreciation for the challenges. However, I also have grown up from this, on the other hand, frustrated experience. Not because the process of losing weight was painful, but because my by-product of the weight loss journey, my online team.
The career that I decided to pursue when I came to college is Clinical psychology. The reason why I decided on majoring in Psychology is because I took an AP Psychology course during my junior year of high school and the Teacher I had made me love Psychology. The reason why I enjoy Psychology so much is because it expands the mind to so many different things like why people have certain behaviors and teaches you the real difference between Nature and Nurture. You are also given the chance to learn new things about why we humans are the way we are. I have also been fascinated with the thought process of a serial killers and why they continuously kill innocent people and I feel like getting a Psychology degree will help me understand that more
“I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more of it I have.” –Thomas Jefferson. A Business degree is a very common and widely chosen major. People that have chosen Business as a major have different reasons for picking it, but, all have the same outlook, work hard and make money. In a Business degree, there are some specific areas that target different aspects of the business world such as: Marketing, Accounting, Finance, International Business, and Economics. One of the most important decisions that any high school student or young adult has to make is deciding what they want to spend the rest of their life doing. Coming into this year I didn't have a clue what I wanted to have as my career. Obviously everybody has their dream job, mine being a pro basketball player overseas, but everybody needs a backup plan if their dreams do not pan out. Recently, I started researching certain careers and taking tests ,such as the WISCareers interest inventory, to decide what career would fit my interests the best. After all the tests and research, I came to the conclusion that becoming a loan officer was what suited me and my interests the best("WISCareers")."Loan officers evaluate, authorize, or recommend approval of loan applications for people and businesses"("Bureau of Labor Statistics"). Being a loan officer is the perfect job for me because they have flexible hours, an above average salary, and a limited amount of schooling.
Right now I have a fairly accurate idea concerning what I want to do with my life. My love for computers has taken me a long way and I have a strong feeling that I will continue in the field of computer science. Yet, I am also aware that I may change my mind several times before I begin a career. College will introduce me to new and various things, and I will develop new interests from this exposure. The world of technology is changing rapidly and computers seem like the best way to go. When I combine that and my love for computers I am almost certain that the field of computer science is right for me.
...y you have enthusiasm for and do well in,” is advice often given by employers. Lynn Cheney, former Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, agrees: “Students who follow their hearts in choosing majors will most likely end up laboring at what they love. They’re the ones who will put in the long hours and intense effort that achievement requires. And they’re the ones who will find the sense of purpose that underlies most human happiness.”
Choosing a major is never an easy work. I have to know and understand the major in the first place, and then seek the value of learning that major. Based on my own experience, I have to get clear with the subjects that I need to learn. Most importantly, what is my future going to be if I choose that major as the direction of my life. As an electrical engineering student, I believe that the technology surrounds us will continue to expand and engineers will lead the way.
I am currently majoring in Finance at Carlson School of Management, and I have decided to explore the career and future growth of a financial analyst. I chose to explore this career because some of my cousins work in this field and I’m interested in numbers and analysis. I also have an interest in following the stock market and working in a stimulating environment. What sets me apart from others is that I’m able to use time management efficiently. I’m able to study and complete major assignments while still finding plenty of time to socialize with others. Having taken StrengthsQuest last year, I learned that I strive for the future, I’m often positive, and I’m a believer in harmony. I believe in consistency, the idea that all people should
The study of economics opened a whole new perception on the world for me. In reality, economics is the main force that strives the human kind to succeed. I love the feeling of when I am engaged in this sphere, however, there are other areas of study that I am also passionate about and that would be art and media, and politics. My involvement in different economics world issues has given me a clearer idea of the importance of economics in our daily lives. I hope one day I will be closely involved in the sphere of economics.
The career I choose to pursue is the career of Business Administration. This career consists of running a small or big business and being able to run it and be capable of making small or very important decisions. A business runs and depends on the people and how people spend their money. If people spend their money responsibly and they know how to administrate their money and will make the economy to be stable and be good. As we all know, the economy has been really bad for the past year and it has made millions of people loose their homes and their jobs. The economy is a big factor in this career and it could be a huge problem that can be faced for a long period of time and more than once.
There were several factors which determined my choice of major. Both of my parents are enterpreneurs, business is the spheare I was surrounded by since childhood. My mother often took me on business trips , so I had a chance to be present at business conferences, fashion shows, factories. Also , an opportunity to travel abroad and meet people of different cultures raised my interes to business sphear as to the opportuinity to travel and to see the world.
