After four semester of perusing a degree in the engineering field, I came to a realization that this is not a career that I was truly passionate about. It lacked the personal connection that I want in a lifelong career. My high school interest and fondness of anatomy and physical fitness led me to the tract of Kinesiology, and soon to the path of becoming a physical therapist. Physical Therapy is an occupation that allows me to work one on one with someone, and create a bond that is rarely ever formed in any other occupation. The opportunity to watch as you care and assist your patient back to their initial physical capacity is an experience that I am sure will always make you appreciate your field of work. I would be more than honored if
I was given this opportunity to volunteer at the University of Maryland Health Center. This would be a major milestone in my path to becoming a physical therapist. The chance to work with renowned physicians will show me what I have to look forward to, as well as a chance to experience what it means to be a physical therapist. It is always advised to shadow an occupation before you are fully committed to it, and I know for a fact that this is the best place to do so. I just hope you see me fit to volunteer in this establishment. Author, B.J. Neblett once said that “We are the sum total of our experiences. Those experiences –be they positive or negative – make us the person we are, at any given point in our lives.” I believe volunteering at the health center would afford me an array of experiences that will enrich my professional skill set and enhance my leadership skills in my future career as a physical therapist.
The purpose of this paper is to gather all the strategies needed to be the best I can be in the future, as a professional. I will express all of my personal goals that I will strive to achieve during college. This paper will serve as a road map to my career path, and will help me better understand the job market. Currently my major is in the college of Kinesiology. The reason I have chosen kinesiology is because I am fascinated with the human body, and learning how to take care of it while it is in motion. This assignment calls for me to explore my options in this degree field by taking a career and personality assessment. Then, I will decide on a career, and major choice that interests me most. At this moment I will put forth all of my effort to obtain a degree from Sam Houston State University, and move onto becoming what employers are looking for. The research for this assignment will be coming from the Newton Gresham Library, Writing Center, Career Services, Internet, and O’Net
All my life I have known that I wanted to be involved in the medical field. At first, I wanted to be a Physical Therapist. The only problem was, I wasn’t excited about my possible future career. Then, I got offered a job doing in home care. I then knew I wanted to widened
For as long as I could remember, I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in the field of physical therapy. Everything about the human body is captivating from the way it works to its powerful ability to heal itself. To many people, the field of physical therapy involves using exercise to aid in the restoration of physical function in patients, but to me, it means so much more. One reason as to why the field of physical therapy peeked my interests is because it combines my keen curiosity for the human body and all its fascinating capabilities, physical exercise and the compassion to help others. In recent years, several events occurred that have helped inspire me to become a physical therapist.
From a young age I was interested in the medical field. As I became more exposed to the various options, I decided physical therapy was the right career for me. My experience has proved the field to be interesting and fun. I enjoy working with people and the versatility of therapy. There are many areas to specialize in and I look forward to learning which one is right for me. At the moment I am interested in pediatric acute care but I am also interested in sports and orthopedics. As I continue my studies, I look forward to learning about the different fields in which physical therapy will take me. My future views may change which physical therapy field I wish to pursue, but right now I look forward to learning as much as I can about physical therapy and helping others.
A physical therapist will help an injured or sick person feel better and get their normal body functions back to normal again. A physical therapist will help strengthen the injured part of the patient so that a recurring injury is not likely to happen. They will also help a patient recover after a surgery, stroke, heart attack, or rehabilitate somebody that has had a life threatening event happen. The work environment for a physical therapist is usually in a hospital, although, they can provide home health care services or work in their own building. It is uncommon for a physical therapist to have a office in a physician's office. As of 2015, more than 200 programs to become a physical therapist were offered to obtain a required Doctor
I would want to be a Physical Therapist Assistant because it only takes 2 years unlike being a Physical Therapist which takes 4 or more years. I am the type of person who can’t wait to get out into the world and start working. So going to college for almost the quarter of the time would be an excellent choice for me. Also if I only go for 2 years the tuition cost is lower and with the tuition being lower that would be less loans for me to pay back. A Physical Therapist Assistant is allowed more time for work and family commitments unlike Physical Therapist where they work more hours. The program at Lake Area Technical Institute would be a perfect college for me to go to because of the location, its good reputation, and has more hands on learning.
While growing up I had many ideas of what professional career I wanted to obtain, although until recent years, occupational therapy was not even a thought. It was not until my grandmother had a stroke that I even knew what occupational therapy was or entailed. I watched my grandmother participate in therapy leading her to learn how to tie her shoes again, and the things I thought were so simple as to dress herself again. It was during that time as high school graduation was approaching that I realized I wanted to be apart of that. I wanted to have a role helping others learn and exceed as she did because I seen how much joy it brought her. This experience opened my eye to the things we so often take for granted, that some people lose the ability of doing or lack the ability of doing. Throughout her journey of facing and overcoming these problems, it led me to a yearning to pursue this
My journey to pursue an education in physical therapy actually originates from my early childhood. I endured a very impoverished upbringing and my family’s socioeconomic status was below the poverty line. At a very young age, money became the central issue of my life. I found myself worrying about mortgages, health bills, and grocery money. As I grew older, I vowed to myself that I would not endure my family’s financial burdens into my adulthood. I knew the best way to accomplish this was by obtaining a college degree and having a professional career. However, I was unsure what career I wanted to pursue. I experimented with many different career ideas, but during my sophomore, I discovered my passion and skill for physical medicine. For my
When I was a kid I went to a physical therapist with my grandparents and they let me come inside with them. That is when the fascination began. The doctor was a very nice guy, and he started asking me questions about what I wanted to do when I was older. I said I want to do your job, and that is what I have been wanting to do since that day. I find the aspect of helping people the best. This job helps so many people in so many different ways. It helps people get back to what they use to be before their accident, or what ever happened to them to cause them to come see me. This job helps people from shoulder surgeries, to people need to learn how to walk again. I want to be that person so bad, I want to be the doctor that the people see a hero in, that people see a great role model. I want to be not only a doctor that helps them get through this, but a friend that they can rely
I have been drawn to the field of science from a young age due to my involvement in physical therapy. I began PT first for my hips and then for my knee as well. Since I never slowed down in my training for dance, I had to constantly go to physical therapy so my body could continue with the strain I was putting on it. However, It wasn't until I was able to see my sister's experience with occupational therapy that I realized how drawn I was to this career. My sister, Marissa, cut her hand when trying to cut food in a Tupperware container. At first she thought she was fine, but then she discovered that she had no feeling in her two fingers and was unable to move them. She had to have surgery to repair the tendons that were damaged, then after had months of occupational therapy to retrain her hand. Viewing this whole situation was extremely fascinating to me. I was a constant pest, asking her questions about everything. I became so curious about the anatomy of the human body. Though it was not my hand that went through all the trauma, I lived vicariously through my sister. Seeing the way the occupational therapy was able to help my sister made me want to learn to help other people in the same
Professionalism is a multi-faceted function of maturity in any context involving communication, understanding, cooperation, and responsibility. While being a student in a doctor of physical therapist degree program, it is important to exhibit professionalism with your peers, instructors, and patients as you are now representing not only yourself, but also your DPT program and physical therapy as a profession. The APTA describes professionalism as possessing the qualities of accountability, altruism, compassion, excellence, integrity, professional duty, and social responsibility. I find accountability and altruism to be the dominating attributes at the core of professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of physical therapist
Teenagers nowadays have the stress and pressure when it comes to their future. Often kids are afraid to grow up. Then given the choice, teens are not always aware of all the options. One way to help is when children or teens are growing up, have the child introduced to different fields. Frequently when asked what a teenage wants to pursue, one will find the teen has absolutely no idea. However, for me, this is not the case. It may be the events of my childhood that have helped me gain an interest. Since I was a little kid, I have wanted to become a nurse. For this paper that career was my first option. I did research and found a different career that spoke to me more than a Registered Nurse did. I found an occupation along the Nursing lines, but O felt worked better with what I want. I found a PA.
Baseball games are a great way to unwind and have fun, the game is tied and the bases are full. With the anticipation of the outcome the next better steps up to the plate and hits a homerun. The crowd is going wild all the bases have fled and now its just the hitter, with the other team working hard to get him out and the hitter on his last base he collapses two feet from home. In excruciating pain trainers instantly rush out onto the field and start examining his leg using various elastic cords and prodding his calf. These are constant conflicts Physical Therapist or “trainers” encounter whether it be a simple game of catch or a professional game.
I always knew I wanted to get a job in the medical field, but I was never sure what I wanted that job to be. I have always known since I was little that I wanted to work with the public. I also wanted to work with people to help them get better. As I got older I figured out that occupational therapy would allow me to do just that. It would be a job that I would enjoy doing, and would not wake up dreading. Aside from helping others, a “master” of occupational therapy should possess patience, should be empathetic, and be creative. Furthering my studies at Bay Path University would allow me to do this.
Physical therapy is a fun and exciting healthcare profession that helps people. It is all about helping other people who have problems with their body, muscles, joints and other parts of their body. Patients includes accident victims and individuals with disabling conditions such as low back pain, arthritis, heart disease, fractures, head injuries, and cerebral palsy. Physical therapy will perform an evaluation of your problem or difficulty. They evaluate your problem by performing tests and measures to assess the problem. These tests includes muscle strength, joint motion, sensory and neurological, coordination, balance, observation, palpation, flexibility, postural screening, movement analysis, and special tests are designed for a particular problem. Next, they develop a treatment plan and goals and then manage the appropriate treatment to aid in recovery of a problem or dysfunction. Physical therapists are able to treat their patients by using many different treatments depending on the type of injury. Some of the treatments are electrical stimulation, hot and cold packs, infrared and ultrasound to reduce swelling or relieve pain. These treatments are used to help decrease pain and increase movement and function. Therapeutic exercises instructions will help restore strength, movement, balance, or skill as a guide towards full functional recovery. Physical therapy provides "hands on techniques" like massage or joint mobilizations skills to restore joint motion or increase soft tissue flexibility. They will focus on basic skills such as getting out of bed, walking safely with crutches or a walker, moving specific joints and muscles of the body. Physical therapists treatment includes patient education to teach them how to deal with a current problem and how to prevent the problem in the future. Such documentation is used to track the patient's progress, and identify areas requiring more or less attention. They encourage patients to use their own muscles. Their main goal is to improve how an individual functions at work and home.
