"Colleen Murnane, PhD in Physical Therapy”. Hearing those words will mark the beginning of accomplishing a long list of goals. My two favorite hobbies of helping people and exercising have led me to my perfect career choice as a Physical Therapist. My father passed away in 2005, and my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2013. These two events in my life influenced my desire to support others, and families that have experienced situations of adversity. I want to use Physical Therapy to help commit sedentary and injured individuals to a lifetime of wellness, and would also like to assist people with neurological conditions that have affected their motor skills. I am a firm believer that personal success comes from the positive impact

Entering my first year of college I didn’t have any idea of what I wanted to do. I still didn’t choose a major let alone a career. I was stuck in between wanting to make enough money that my family would be taken care of financially and choosing a career that I wouldn’t mind going in to work every day. The one thing that I was certain of was that I wanted to be able to help people in whatever I chose to do. After careful consideration and exploring the options available to me, I have come to the conclusion that I want to have a career in physical therapy. Physical therapy is the treatment of disease, injury or deformity through physical methods rather than through drugs or surgery.
After four semester of perusing a degree in the engineering field, I came to a realization that this is not a career that I was truly passionate about. It lacked the personal connection that I want in a lifelong career. My high school interest and fondness of anatomy and physical fitness led me to the tract of Kinesiology, and soon to the path of becoming a physical therapist. Physical Therapy is an occupation that allows me to work one on one with someone, and create a bond that is rarely ever formed in any other occupation. The opportunity to watch as you care and assist your patient back to their initial physical capacity is an experience that I am sure will always make you appreciate your field of work. I would be more than honored if
What is massage therapy you might ask? The title for it explains almost the entire career. Massage therapist help their customers by using the manipulative skill of touching to relieve pain stress, and many other discomforting factors. Therapists also soften issues of the body and knead muscles. They promote general wellness and provide treatment for injuries. Massage therapists may use lotions and oils and massage tables or chairs as Bureau of Labor Statistics (2014) writes. Massages can last as short as 5-10 minutes or even longer than an hour. These are
Being a veteran has made me want to look out for others despite their situation. (3Q)
My journey to pursue an education in physical therapy actually originates from my early childhood. I endured a very impoverished upbringing and my family’s socioeconomic status was below the poverty line. At a very young age, money became the central issue of my life. I found myself worrying about mortgages, health bills, and grocery money. As I grew older, I vowed to myself that I would not endure my family’s financial burdens into my adulthood. I knew the best way to accomplish this was by obtaining a college degree and having a professional career. However, I was unsure what career I wanted to pursue. I experimented with many different career ideas, but during my sophomore, I discovered my passion and skill for physical medicine. For my

Graduating high school and entering college, I was not positive on what path I wanted to take. I have always enjoyed working with others, especially children, and knew that I would choose a path involving that. Helping others has always given me a good feeling inside. Initially, I choose to enroll at the University of Maine in the exploration program as a way to discover the best fit career for me. I had always thought of occupational therapy, but never considered it as I do to this day. My career goal is to become an occupational therapist, hoping to specialize in pediatrics. I find that working with people to help them complete important tasks would be very satisfying to both those who I’m working with and myself. Occupational therapy is
According to Massage Today “Massage therapy is recognized as one of the oldest methods of healing, with references in medical texts nearly 4,000 years old”. I feel that the benefit of rubbing aching muscles and hurt limbs comes to us as naturally as breathing air. Among its many purposes and advantages, massage soothes achy muscles, helps heal injuries, strengthens baby’s muscles and relieves stress. To me, massage is not only a way to soothe the muscles and relieve the everyday stresses of society, massage is a way to connect with others through the common practice of touch. We have needed touch in our lives since the first seconds after our birth, so it’s not surprising that we would seek out touch in the form of massage.
