For as long as I remember, I have been interested in having a career involving and being around sports. Ever since i was little i have played sports and been a student of the game. I have a strong passion for sports, i am hardworking, knowledgeable, a winner, and experienced. First off, i have the experience to qualify myself for the job. I have played in over 1,000 basketball games in my career. From travel ball, school ball, and recreation league, I have been in almost every situation possible. I have won everywhere i have played at during my playing career. Losing is not an option, and i will make this clear to my team. I will do whatever it takes to win. My coaching style would adapt and evolve to whatever was giving my team the best chance to win. I would strive for greatness and be relentless in pursing that. One position in sport that has always caught my attention is being an athletic director. The reason why is that ever since high school, I have known that being an athletic director means that you are in charge of the athletic department. I will introduce four articles that will talk about not only the responsibilities of being an athletic director, but will show you some problems you may face being an athletic director. I will briefly introduce each article then in the analysis section I will discuss each one. I want to provide the research and knowledge necessary to give an understanding of what it takes to be an athletic director.
I have always loved sports and the competitiveness that comes along with them. In so doing, I have decided to eventually become either a high school or college coach at some point in my life. Subsequently, I decided to interview the Vilonia High School Cross Country Coach, Coach Sisson. As I walked into her office, I instantly noticed all of the trophies and team photos from all of the past years of coaching. She is also the school nurse so her office has first aid equipment intermingled into the trophies and team pictures. While I set up my notes and questions for the interview on one of the desks in her office, she was finishing up a diagnosis of one of the high school students who felt sick. After her patient left, I quickly started the interview in order to waste no time. She began with how she got involved in coaching. The Vilonia School District expressed their interest to her as being the next cross country coach several years ago. She was widely known for her passion for running and she gratefully accepted the position and has been a coach for numerous years now.
The few cons of a career as an athletic director are that you may have an erratic work schedule, may have heavy workloads at the beginning of sports seasons, and you have to be skilled in a variety of areas such as finances, management, and coaching. Why I am Suited for this Career? I have a sports background because of my sports participation in golf, baseball, basketball, football, and soccer. I took a sports management class my senior year in high school.
Both on an off the field, my enthusiasm and motivation to obtain a goal is a trait that I am very proud of. I have faced many tasks where a leader had needed to step up and I am always willing to do so. I am also willing to get help when I need it. If I can’t complete a task by myself I do not mind asking a classmate, teammate, friend or a teacher for guidance. By bringing that openness and leadership to University of Charleston’s Athletic Training Program I believe that I can also attribute to the University of Charleston’s Mission Statement “to educate each student for a life of productive work, enlightened living, and community involvement.” By bettering the Athletic Training community by providing care to our Athletes I believe that I will be a great addition to the Athletic Training
In my life, I had not had the chance to be a part of something that influenced me much, until I joined football my freshman year in high school. Joining football was perhaps the most devoted and wisest thing that I did because shortly after joining I began to see changes for the better, and from then I saw the person that I wanted to be in the future. In other words, it shaped the person that I am today and will be for the rest of my life. Not only did the sport influence me but it also equipped me with a new mindset that affects me today in my decision making skills, time management and many other beneficial life virtues. I believe that these virtues will bring me success in the nearest future because I feel confident about myself and I feel more in control in my life through my actions, all thanks to simply joining what seemed to be a “regular” extracurricular.
A college basketball staff 13 employees, there are six coaches, four student managers, two practice squad players, and one athletic trainer. Futch also explains to become a head coach at the collegiate level it may require a master’s degree based on experience. Director of basketball operators must be CPR certified, pass concussion tests, and must go throw title ix training. Coach Futch was uncertain about the job opportunities in the field due to the fact intuitions are eliminating athletics for financial purposes. Coaching is something I have grown a passion for, it might not be the most glamorous job in the world but its appeal to me has me hooked. I’m ready to take on the challenges of building up a program based of the core values I deem necessary to help my players become better people.
I enjoy sports more than any other hobby I have and it’s easy for me to stay invested in it because I’ve genuinely cared about sports my whole life, especially basketball. That’s why my plan is to try and work in an international basketball league or even better, the NBA. Canada, Turkey, Spain and many more countries are all up and coming basketball countries with leagues that aren’t yet fully ingrained into the community. Basketball is still a growing sport in many countries around the world, there are very few other countries where basketball is as popular as it is in North America. Even China, which is probably 2nd to us in terms of basketball competition and overall skill, is still extremely far from being as developed as we are with basketball. Ever since starting to play basketball when I was 9 in 3rd grade, it has grown into a real passion for me and I still play as often as I can to this day. Basketball is truly the sport I love and landing a position where I can be involved in basketball for the rest of my life is my ideal position. Lastly, a sports marketing career is fantastic for people who love to communicate with others and like a fast-paced work environment of which I love both.
