The stakeholders belongs to many groups in this story. First, the fans drive the enthusiasm and profits for the National Basketball Association. The franchises thrives on it, and need fans desperately to support local and national teams. Players on teams are significant too because they are able to connect with the NBA immediately. The players are able to listen to fans over social media and other ways and be able to let the NBA know effectively. Fans need specific NBA players to be excited and talk about. Players like Lebron, Kobe, and Durant have been talked about for years and continue a basketball legacy. Each player on a team has a role to maintain and have to meet expectations. People don’t often do it. The Utah Jazz shows the philanthropy, and they featured 5 for the fight. 5 for the Fight is a charitable organization dedicated to fighting cancer. It wants people to donate $5 for cancer, and many people think it is the correct thing to do by featuring the logo on the jersey. The organization is not selling anything, and it does not pay for publicity. However, by not paying publicity, there is more risk for good or even bad news. Especially if a player does something wrong or the organization does not approach a situation correctly, bad news can turn viral. It can spill over to other companies and affect the reputations. With charitable causes, people often trust their news more than private company’s publicity or …show more content…
People don’t want the NBA to turn into a franchise like Nascar or soccer which regularly features advertisements on cars and players. Public relations is important to an institution’s communication. It is essential to have good relationships with players, fans, and the general public. NBA officials need to be careful when dealing with complaints, but it is essential that they respond to complaints. If the company does not respond, then it makes the organization look bad. The company will look like they don’t care about the groups involved. If fans are unhappy, NBA officials need to address the situation and communicate clearly. It means keeping healthy relationships with fans, stockholders, and sponsors. It also means that the NBA need to listen to fans
more calls in their favor i.e. more trips to the free throw line and less foul calls against these players. The end results of this treatment of favorite players would be more points per games, greater stats, winning more games, winning championships and more endorsements with greater financial gain. The adverse effect would occur for the least favorite players, this institutionally allowed bias would and can affect the lives and futures of players by depriving the players of the NBA the right to determine their individual success or failure according to their athletic efforts and skills. Fifth issue: The NBA facing fines and penalties from the federal government. Tim Donaghy’s actions were in connection with organized crime and if the FBI
.... Players are also factors in fighting against dystopian way because it inhibits them to freely be themselves while they are playing and working in a association they worked on their whole life to get into. In other words, its bizarre to see players who are the main value in sports such as basketball, however are still able to be confined due to the authoritative power of the basketball association. Overall, since people depend heavily on social media and television, associations use their power such as imposing dress codes to present their players on television so that viewers can be aware and interested in why the NBA is trying to sell such as tickets to stadiums, clothing, and certain messages. IN result, this has lead society to fall under a dystopia, where everything is controlled by higher authority restricting thus the rights us people were first entitled too.
On the other hand, there are those who feel as if the effects of the lockout will be suppressed due to the strength of the league and its progression towards a new style of play. According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, proponents of the National Basketball Association rest their faith for the league on four basic fundamentals: popularity, being hip, demographics, and marketing savvy. Basketball has an advantage over all sports due to its ease of being played. All you need is a basketball and a hoop. As long as this holds true, proponents feel basketball will always remain popular. During the NBA's resurgence during the 1980's and '90's they, "tapped into the rhythm and mentality among younger sports fans that hadn't been touched yet.
Donald Sterling was finally caught in the act. Now he must face the consequences and possibly lose everything that he has worked for. He owned one of the best upcoming teams in the NBA. Now all that is gone because of his racist comments he made towards his girlfriend. He has been banned from the NBA for life; he’s getting fined 2.5 Million dollars and is possibly going to be forced to sell his team.
New entrants into this industry are unusual since NBA League approval and a sharp franchise fee stand in the way of potential new team owners. Moreover, attempting to deceive the NBA would put the following difficulties into an entrepreneur’s path are: massive capital costs, lack of brand reputation, lack of TV revenue, and steep competition for talent. Extension teams occasionally do get approval, like the Charlotte Bobcats founded in 2004. Though, the competition that so many different industries face from new entrants is practically non-existent in professional basketball.
The “big” problem is Donald Sterling. Late April TMZ reported the racist remarks, the NBA investigated almost immediately, releasing statements and more about why the argument between Donald Sterling and his girlfriend was started by a social media website, Sterling’s girlfriend, V. Stiviano, posting of picture of her and Erving “Magic” Johnson, and bringing African-Americans to his games.
The players coming into the Kings for the last few years have been young college kids picked in the first round of the draft with aspirations of becoming stars. Every kid going into the NBA thinks he is the next Lebron James, and thinks he can make a bad team great all by himself. But this is where the problem stems from; these nineteen and twenty year olds stepping on the court are talented but not grounded, and as soon as the season starts and their hopes are high, they manage to play the best game of one versus five. Take a player we recently traded away; Tyreke Evans. He is an extremely talented player who could drive on the hoop and still make the basket. The problem that existed with Tyreke is that he did not pass the ball. Once he heard the fans cheer his na...
Sunday, June 19th 2016 will be a date that will lay in the hearts of Cleveland sports fans for the rest of their lives. On this day, the Cleveland Cavaliers finished the nearly impossible task of coming back from being down three games to one in the NBA Finals in order to give the city of Cleveland its first professional sports championship in fifty-two years. The team was led by LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and company; together, they made history. After the championship many emotional advertisements came out about the city of Cleveland, but there is one that stands out the most. Nike, who endorse LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, released an emotional advertisement called “Worth the Wait,” targeting those who have been with Cleveland since the
Weaknesses Poor management of player relations. Deteriorating brand image of certain players. Little to no control of the players off the court. The goal of creating a fair playing field among big and small market teams has led to too many regulations. Few superstar talents to draw fan attention/loyalty.
The Lakers have many different promotion strategies to keep fans coming back for their games and to keep consumers promoting and supporting the team. According to Sports Marketing Quarterly, “NBA teams use a variety of marketing techniques to try to increase game attendance” (Turner, 140). Promotion strategies are important to the Lakers’ marketing efforts because it brings more and more people to attend the games since they receive something free or win a prize for participating in a raffle or contest. Also, when the Lakers make it to the playoffs and/or the finals, they give each audience member a free shirt to wear during the games for attending and to support the team while they play. So on television, everyone will be wearing the same shirt and the fans on the opposite side of the basket receive thunder sticks to distract the other team from making a shot. Having...

Sports are one of the most profitable industries in the world. Everyone wants to get their hands on a piece of the action. Those individuals and industries that spend hundreds of millions of dollars on these sports teams are hoping to make a profit, but it may be an indirect profit. It could be a profit for the sports club, or it could be a promotion for another organization (i.e. Rupert Murdoch, FOX). The economics involved with sports have drastically changed over the last ten years.
I was unsure what to post until I saw this this video on the fourth of July. The video is ridiculous. You have a lady who took it upon herself to chastise a heartbroken Oklahoma City Thunder fan who placed tape on the name Durant and wrote the word TRAITOR on the tape. He did this after learning that their superstar, Kevin Durant is leaving the team to sign with the San Francisco Golden State Warriors. The lady who took offense with the guy wearing traitor on his back argued that KD made OKC and that he should respect his decision and respect him as a man. First off, the man who decided that he would put tape on his jersey and make up a sign showing his displeasure of Durant leaving the Thunder is what I call a super fan. A super fan is one of those types that really believe that they are part of the team forgetting of course that they own no stake in the team nor can they hire or fire coaches nor sign and trade players. These super fans will use the word “we” instead of “they” when referring to the team. This super fan
in the league agrees to the rules set by the NBA from the beginning. The rules
Roles, Aims and Objectives of Two Sports Organizations I have chosen two sports organisations involved in development schemes and I will look at their roles, aims and objectives. The two organsations I have chose to focus on are The National Association for Sports Development (NASD) and The English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS). I chose these two organisations as I thought they would be interesting organisations to concentrate on and I found a fair bit of research on each of the two organisations.
