INTRODUCTION

1. Without a forceful naval power, the Island nation’s is facing huge trouble in present situation in whole over the world. “Sri Lankan strategic maritime location, in the very lap of the Indian ocean and at the confluence of several critical shipping lanes gives it great importance in the maritime affairs of not just the Indian ocean, but global as well. The oceans have always been central to life in Sri Lanka.” The naval force is the first deface of the country to oversee security of the sea, since naval activities commenced. As a small Island, Sri Lanka Navy has lot of responsibilities to care of mother land according to analyzing the situations in world.

2. Till 2009, Sri Lanka Navy had faced 30 years asymmetric warfare with LTTE which force to change operational philosophy as threat is more over from landward which invariably force to adopt small boat concept and due to that present day Sri Lanka Navy

possess over 50 fast attack crafts and large number of IPCs and arrow crafts. Contrary to that during last thirty years Navy had acquired only 03 OPV’s up to present day. However Sri Lanka Navy complement had been drastically improved and now it has been reached up to 55000 personnel which in par with other Navies in the region and mainly utilized for land role than sea role. The main focus of the Navy is on efficient & effective maritime surveillance and ensuring maritime security by carrying out counter operations...
