Squeaky has a different and interesting personality. She always defends her older brother Raymond when people make fun of him. She has a very high self-esteem and is not afraid to be realistic about things. She is also very determined, she always wants to accomplish her goals and always wants to help other people. Squeaky and I share some character traits like being determined to help others, being athletic, and having high self esteems and not being afraid to voice our opinion. I think squeaky is a likeable person because I think she will always be there for you no matter what circumstances. I would like to be friends with Squeaky because she would lift you up but she will also keep you on the right path. I think Squeaky is a good person to be around because she will support you through …show more content…
everything and always be there for you. A friend like Squeaky would be a good friend to have because she always ends up seeing the best in people even if she doesn’t at first. I also think Squeaky would also help boost your self esteem and make you realize that your happiness is number one. Squeaky is a likeable person and would be an amazing friend. My favorite characteristic about Squeaky is that she is so determined and dedicated. She loves to run and because that is her passion she does everything she can to get better at running. She also is determined to take care of her brother Raymond. She protects Raymond at all costs because that is her responsibility and she is determined to take care of him. Once squeaky has set her mind to something she makes sure to get it done. Another good characteristic that Squeaky has is that she has a high self-esteem.
Squeaky's high self esteem makes her confident and not afraid to speak her mind. Squeaky being confident makes her feel comfortable with who she is and she is not afraid to express the things she enjoys. I think it is amazing how she is not ashamed to take care of her brother Raymond and how she is also not ashamed to do her breathing exercise down Broadway because she is not afraid to let people see what she enjoys to do. Squeaky has the confidence to explain herself to others as well. She understands and is not afraid to tell people that she is not made out to participate in the Maypole dance but to run the race instead. Her being realistic about that shows that she will not let people influence her but instead she will be true to herself. Squeaky is also a dynamic character because her personality and attitude changed toward Gretchen at the end of the book. At first squeaky acts sassy and defensive toward Gretchen because they are rivals. At the end of the book Squeaky realizes that it is not all about winning and they could actually be a really good team because they are both amazing
runners. I love Squeaky’s personality but the one thing I don’t like about her is that she always is defensive. I think being defensive when you have to be is good but I don’t think being defensive should be your first instinct. When Squeaky runs into the girls on Broadway she is immediately defensive. I think that if she would have been nice at first then they would not of had a fight. Even though Squeaky can be a be a little too defensive overall I think Squeaky has a well rounded personality and would be a good person to be around.
In the Lilies of the Field by William E. Barrett, Homer and Mother Maria both display straightforward, hardworking, and stubborn character traits. Firstly, Homer and Mother Maria both display a straightforward personality by being brutally honest about their opinions. For example, when Mother Maria asks Homer to build a chapel, Homer speaks his mind by telling her he does not want to build it. Mother Maria shows her straightforward behavior during Homer’s stay at the convent. One morning, when Homer sleeps in late, Mother to becomes extremely upset and is not afraid to show how she feels about him. Secondly, both Homer and Mother Maria display a hardworking spirit. Homer is a hardworking man because after finally agreeing to build the chapel,
In The Big Field, author Mike Lupica explores the theme, "Success uses motivation as fuel." Lupica portrays this theme through the main character, Hutch. Throughout the entire book, Hutch, a young boy that has just recently joined a highly talented baseball team, displays moments that exemplify this main theme. Hutch and his team have a chance to play in the stadium of the Miami Marlins, a Major League Baseball team, as long as they can keep winning games and advancing through a challenging tournament; however, Hutch's favorite position on the field, shortstop, the position located between 2nd and 3rd base, has already been filled on the team. Unfortunately, Hutch gets a demotion from shortstop, to second base, the position located between 1st base and 2nd base. Although Hutch was disappointed and melancholy about the switch in position, he was even more upset about the downgrading of leadership, since the
The production of Honky is a satirical comedy, following the lives of five people and the language of racism. While it focuses on the plot of 5 characters, the storyline was well thought out and intriguing. One actor in specific, Gerard Joseph, who played Thomas, did an exceptionally well job at conveying emotion and projecting to the audience, in my opinion. The overall directing, from the actors to the soundtrack and lightning, seem to be presented with excellent detail. Overall, this production was well done.
Laura Hillenbrand’s novel Unbroken incorporates the improbable life of the main character, Louie Zamperini. She introduces both the inspiring and powerful journey that Louie encounters in his life as he grows up. Hillenbrand looks to and successfully does catch the versatility of the human soul. Zamperini’s story including his involvement in World War II gives a persuasive stage in which the author demonstrates numerous qualities of Louie. Leaving readers to appreciate his courage, quality, grit and above all else, his bravery. “Confident that he was clever resourceful, and bold enough to escape any predicament, [Louie] was almost incapable of discouragement. When history carried him into war, this resilient optimism would define him.” Louie
Julius Caesar is mentioned throughout the book, A Long Way Gone, many times. In A Long Way Gone, Ishmael would be reading Julius Caesar or a soldier would be reciting some of the speeches in the play. In Chapter 12 of A Long Way Gone, Ishmael is called over to talk with Lieutenant Jabati. Then, Lieutenant Jabati showed Ishmael the book he was reading, which was Julius Caesar, and asked Ishmael if he had ever heard of the book. Ishmael had read the book in school, and began to recite a speech from the book. After this happened, Lieutenant Jabati and Corporal Gadafi used emotional arguments to motivate the people in the village to stay there and support the military. Also, Lieutenant showed all the people in the village dead bodies to help
In “Raymond’s Run”, Squeaky is very offensive. She “[doesn’t] feature a whole lot of chit-chat, [she’d] much prefer to just knock you down right from the jump and save everybody a lotta precious time.”. She is too offensive to make friends, as shown in a scene where she meets some other girls in her class. She immediately
Louie Zamperini survived almost two months at sea facing starvation, extreme thirst, and shark attacks. During WWII, Louie was captured and taken to many Japanese prison camps where he was drained emotionally and physically. Though his conditions were obviously not ideal, Louie kept up his lively personality and found ways to take care of himself to survive. In the novel Unbroken, Laura Hillenbrand uses both internal and external conflict to show the theme people can stand up against enemies even when the odds seemed stacked up against them.
something. We might be sad or happy. We also have different opinions like the protagonist, Squeaky, in the story “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara. In the story Squeaky is protecting her older brother because he acts differently. She also explains what is going on in her life and she introduces the people that she dislikes. For example, her mother wants her to be a bit more girly. However, Squeaky enjoys running and that is what helps her get through rough times as she says in the story. In the beginning of the story, she hates another character named Gretchen. Squeaky hates her and her sidekicks, Mary Louise and Rosie, because they insult and make fun of her brother. Even
One character who needs to grow up is Dodge. In the beginning of the story all he ever did was go around with alyss pranking and playing jokes on wonderlanders, He also got easily embarrassed and would not let go of the past later in the book. The narrator asserts that, “Dodge became embarrassed whenever she showed it to him, so she showed it to him often.”(Beddor 30). This proves my point about dodge getting
Piaget believed that a child’s development is neither intrinsic (learning based on interest) or extrinsic (learning from an outside force, such as a parent). He believed that a child develops based on his or hers interactions in the environment (Mooney 2000). Piaget created four stages of cognitive development, some of which can be seen in the film “Cheaper by the Dozen”. A few examples of characters that display Piaget’s theory are the twins, who are in the preoperational stage and lack the concept of conservatism, and the mastermind, who is in the concrete operational stage and show's the concept of decentralism. These characters will have Piaget’s theory applied to them in the following paragraphs.
Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, has four very important dynamic characters. A dynamic character is a character that develops and grows during the course of the story. Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and Simon are four dynamic characters in Lord of the Flies that adapt to their new lifestyles in different ways. Jack is a very important dynamic character in Lord of the Flies because he goes through the most changes during the novel. While on the island, Jack has many life experiences that change him forever. Jack never thought he would live his life the way he is living his life in the island. Jack’s authoritative figure, savage-like/instinctual behavior, and violence are three qualities that make Jack a dynamic character.
In the story, “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara it describes to the character of Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker or Squeaky who is true to herself. Hazel got her name as Squeaky because she is a little girl with skinny arms and a squeaky voice. Hazel is the fastest thing on two feet but not as fast as her father. He can beat Hazel to Amsterdam Avenue with hazel having a two fire-hydrant head start and him running with his hands in his pockets and whistling. Then there’s Raymond, Hazel’s older brother. Hazel has to only look out for Raymond because he isn’t quite right. If anybody wants to say something about Raymond’s big head they have to get through Hazel. At the end of the story Squeaky says, “ It’s about as real a smile as girls can
Much work goes into musical , as was the case in “Catch Me If You Can”,which La Joya Middle School drama had the pleasure of watching on January 15, put on by El Diamante High School. The musical was directed by John Sorber and Michael Tackett. This amazing production included many talented actors such as Maverik Dakota Raven starring as Frank Abagnale Jr., Kiley Hoffman playing Brenda Strong, and Jonathan Johns as Carl Hanratty. This incredible play carried a strong lesson. As was seen the protagonist ran from his problems and pretended to be someone who he wasn't. The plot of this story showed us that we can't run from our problems, for that only worsens the situation and is a snowball for our problems.
Defining the American character is quite difficult because American identity is vaguely founded on shared values and ideologies, more so than a particular creed, race, or culture. In order to describe the American character, we will consider the dominate and distinctive qualities of Americans as interpreted by J. Hector St. Jon De Crèvecoeur and Thomas Paine. First, we will examine how Crèvecoeur illustrates Americans as industrious, prideful, and political in “Letters from an American Farmer.” Then, we will analyze from Thomas Paine's “Common Sense” how he depicts the prevalent qualities of Americans to be driven by justice, liberty, emotions, and individualism. Also, because both authors consider the American character and culture different
Noah is the one of the main characters of The Notebook. He is the hero of this novel. Noah represents true love and true loyalty. In a way, The Notebook is similar to every modern day romance movie, and Noah represents the “dream man” that all the girls always imagine of having. The characters in movies are used to symbolize ideas, and in this novel, Noah represents true, faithful, committed love. Noah remains loyal to Allie even in the situation where he is unsure whether they will ever meet again or not.
