In the story, “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara it describes to the character of Hazel Elizabeth Deborah Parker or Squeaky who is true to herself. Hazel got her name as Squeaky because she is a little girl with skinny arms and a squeaky voice. Hazel is the fastest thing on two feet but not as fast as her father. He can beat Hazel to Amsterdam Avenue with hazel having a two fire-hydrant head start and him running with his hands in his pockets and whistling. Then there’s Raymond, Hazel’s older brother. Hazel has to only look out for Raymond because he isn’t quite right. If anybody wants to say something about Raymond’s big head they have to get through Hazel. At the end of the story Squeaky says, “ It’s about as real a smile as girls can
do for each other, considering we don’t practice real smiling every day, you know, cause maybe we are too busy being flowers or fairies or strawberries instead of something honest and worthy of respect…… you know … like being people”on pg 39, line 389-396. The phrase like being people to the character of Squeaky means to be yourself. My first piece of evidence to support the idea of being yourself is when she describes being in Preschool. On lines 199-200 pg 32, it states “ I am not a strawberry. I do not dance on my toes I run”. This implies that the character Squeaky is always herself. She doesn’t believe in being a girly-girl. She does not do what her mother likes. This one piece of evidence is why the phrase like being people means to be yourself. Another piece of evidence to support the idea of being yourself is when she goes through Gretchen. On page 39, lines 385-387 it says “ Cause she’s good, no doubt about it. Maybe she’d like to help me coach Raymond; she is obviously serious about running, as any fool can see. And she nods to congratulate me and then she smiles”. This implies on how she is being herself not somebody else. This another piece of evidence is why “like being people” means to be yourself.
“The thing I hate about space is that you can feel how big and empty it is… ”
The production of Honky is a satirical comedy, following the lives of five people and the language of racism. While it focuses on the plot of 5 characters, the storyline was well thought out and intriguing. One actor in specific, Gerard Joseph, who played Thomas, did an exceptionally well job at conveying emotion and projecting to the audience, in my opinion. The overall directing, from the actors to the soundtrack and lightning, seem to be presented with excellent detail. Overall, this production was well done.
In life, everyone makes mistakes. Some are minor, some are major, but all in all, it happens. Eddie Rake made his fair amount of mistakes in life but managed to gain forgiveness back from every player and family because of the positive impact he made on the lives of the people of Messina. In John Grisham’s, Bleachers, Neely Crenshaw, one of Rake’s former players, said, “Coach Rake was not easy to love, and while you’re playing here you don’t really like him. But after you leave, after you venture away from this place, after you’ve been kicked around a few times, faced some adversity, some failure, been knocked down in life, you soon realize how important Coach Rake is and was” (Grisham 223). This tells one that no matter how bad Rake hurt a

There are many interesting quotes of the protagonist, Harold “Peewee” Gates, that stood out to me in the book Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers. There were many quotes that revealed about his life but there were two that stood out to me. In a conversation Peewee is talking to Perry about how is life in the United States and army life are different. “‘But this is the first place I ever been in my life where I got what everybody else got.’” ~Peewee (page 15) This quote reveals that Peewee came from a rough place and grew up in poverty since this is the first time he has had what everyone else has. It also shows how strict his mother was because he wasn’t allowed to have what everyone else had or what he wanted besides basic necessities.
“Nobody’d listen to us” (81) exclaims Crooks when talking about being ignored. In Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck illustrates the characters Curley’s wife, Crooks, and Candy experiencing loneliness and isolation while living on the ranch. These characters attempt to socialize, succeeding and failing. Loneliness and isolation of the characters results in yelling, bullying, and even a broken neck.

“Everybody Loves Raymond” is a television show that only few people today can actually say they had not seen this sitcom. It was one of the highest rated show during it run on CBS television network but has anyone ever noticed how much of a gender stereotype bonanza this show was? Most sitcoms follow the same pattern with the primary goal to make us laugh that, we tend to ignore the obvious and just assume this was the expected behavior for men, women even children in our society. I watched the first two episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond, the show was about a stay at home mother Debra and her husband Raymond who goes to work, while her in-laws who lives across the street are always barging in to her home without a thought about what
“In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.” - John Steinbeck. Curley throughout the story, whenever he came in, there was always a negative vibe going on. Events he’s in, usually goes downhill for him or some other major character, he’s always bringing out bad events in the story, from when he wants to kill people, from when he wants to hurt people, Curley is someone who brings bad events to him, and the characters around him. Curley’s actions throughout the story has proved him to be a belligerent, unemotional, and cocky character.
The play “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry has many interesting characters. In my opinion, the most fascinating character is Ruth because of her many emotions and captivating personality. She goes through extreme emotions in the play such as happiness, sadness, anger, stress, and confusion. Ruth is very independent, firm, kind, witty, and loving.
In the novel Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck describes the simple dream which enlightens hope for George and Lennie’s life. Especially Lennie, all he thinks about until the end is tending rabbits. And George wants to get their own ranch so they don’t need to work for others anymore. It seems as if they are going to achieve it. However, several characters complicate the dream and finally cause the tragedy. The character of Curley’s wife doesn’t mean to complicate the dream. while Curley intends on doing so. Therefore, in regards to the issue of complicating the dream, I believe that Curley and Curley’s wife are to blame.
Squeaky and her brother were the true focus of the story, not running, nor being the best. The true goal was Squeaky and her brother being happy. Squeaky would do things for her brother that you wouldn't know just taking the text at face value. The author’s word choice in each paragraph was no accident. The feelings of the character were expressed through her culture, way of speaking, personal values, and inexperience in the unconventional style that was portrayed as “Squeaky”. The author wanted to show maturity and familiar love in a story. A sibling willing to invest in another sibling is a powerful

Human lives revolve around relationships and maintaining them. It takes a stable person to maintain a healthy relationship, without this they could emotionally hurt themselves or others. The idea of maintaining healthy relationships is a topic John Green explores in his book Turtles All the Way Down. Aza is a high school girl that deals with a mental illness that controls her life. She is constantly worried about getting sick and dying by her microbiome. She constantly lets people in her life down and is not there for them when they need her. When people are not in the mental state to maintain healthy relationships they should accept help from others and not push them away as seen through Aza’s therapist appointments, arguments
Optimistic: op·ti·mis·tic - adjective - to be hopeful and confident about the future. Being optimistic can be extremely difficult when you’re taken away from a happy life, and forced into situations that make him pessimistic about the future, just like Buck did. My dad was taken away from a happy life, going through tons of traumatic situations while being forced to grow up at the same time. Although Buck and my dad went through different situations, they still felt trapped and unhappy at one point in life. Perseverance is a life skill and everyone goes through tough situations everyday, it’s the way you handle them that shows true characterization.
