When we were younger, most of us wanted to be a princess or an astronaut. Now that we’re older, we’re starting to consider more serious options. A sports medicine physician isn’t your run of the mill career choice, but I’m not known for running with the crowd. I am confident, hard working and able to stay calm under pressure. Sports medicine physicians diagnose and treat patients of all ages related to physical health. To become a sports medicine physician, you need many years of post secondary education and they make a relatively good salary. With most careers, there are advantages and disadvantages. There can be travel opportunities and that comes with long work hours and high stress levels.

Sports medicine physicians provide care for musculoskeletal injuries, concussions and athletic related conditions. I am essentially responsible for treating patients with appropriate medical care. Sports medicine physicians work with people who have been injured and need help diagnosing a problem like sore knees or sensitivity to light. They work with patients who need help to overcome and/or prevent injuries. They also work with patients of all ages who require rehabilitation, training, strengthening or wellness plans. After these two things you need to complete an MD (Doctor of Medicine) degree and then an undergraduate degree in kinesiology. There are some sports medicine physicians who do a masters and PhD as well. It could take a total of 2-13 years of post-secondary education.
